Knowing that his team was going to monopolize possession of the ball, Javi Calleja gave all the stripes of the Alava midfield to Manu García, who, accompanied by Balboa, took command of the game from the first minute.

Manu García very judiciously moved the ball from one side of the field to the other, trying above all to give his team depth on the left wing, where both Javi López struck from the side and Miguel a little further ahead.

Remains of Luzerne County man killed in Korean conflict are identified nearly 70 years later

U.S. Army Sgt. James Stryker, 20, was killed near Han’gye, South Korea, in 1951. His remains were accounted for on Aug. 5, 2020. His family was recently informed.

WEST NANTICOKE, Pa. — A Pennsylvania man who was killed during the Korean War in 1951 was positively accounted for last year, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced this month.

While the remains of U.S. Army Sgt. James N. Stryker, of West Nanticoke, Luzerne County, were accounted for on Aug. 5, 2020, his family recently received a full briefing on the identification process, the DPAA said.

In May 1951, Stryker was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was reported missing in action on May 18, when the enemy attacked his unit near Han’gye, South Korea.

Stryker’s remains could not be immediately recovered, but he was not officially declared dead until after the Armistice was signed July 27, 1953.

During a search of Korean War battlefields later in May 1951, an unknown set of remains was recovered from the area where Stryker went missing, according to the DPAA. After a preliminary examination at Tanggok United Nations Military Cemetery, an identification could not be made and the remains were buried as Unknown X-1373 Tanggok.

Further attempts were made to identify X-1373, but were unsuccessful, the DPAA said.

The remains were later transported with all of the unidentified Korean War remains and buried as Unknowns at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as the Punchbowl, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In May 2017, the family of an unresolved soldier associated with the same area where Stryker went missing requested X-1373 be disinterred for comparison with their Soldier, the DPAA said.

Further research by a DPAA historian and forensic anthropologist determined X-1373 and the soldier were…

Connecticut’s first two weeks of sports betting and iGaming bring $1.7M to the state

Connecticut’s Governor Ned Lamont announced Wednesday that expanded gamlbing in the state, which began in mid-October with sports betting and online casino games, has generated $1.7 million in revenue.

The reported amounts up to October 31, limited to less than a month. Online casino gambling brought in $1.2 million and sports betting raised about $513,000. The money will be deposited into the state’s general fund.

Lamont reflected on these numbers and called them a “great start” and said he is “looking forward to years of success”. He also stated that it is expected that gambling revenue will generate $100 million a year for the state over the next four or five years.

Rodney Butler, tribal chairman of the Mashantucket Pequots, who own and operate Foxwoods Resort Casino, said he was encouraged by the early results “showing a clear enthusiasm and interest in online sports betting and gaming in Connecticut”.

“The engagement sets a promising benchmark and we expect the momentum to only build as more consumers get in on the action and the NFL season peaks over the coming months”, he added.

Slot machine revenue at the two casinos, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods, dwarfed what sports gambling and expanded online games raised. Foxwoods posted $317 million in slot revenue in October and Mohegan Sun saw $44.3 million for the month.

In both casinos, slot revenue rebounded more than 20% from October 2020, when they operated at reduced capacity due to COVID.

The payment due the state is 13.75% of gross gaming revenue for sports betting and 18% for online casino gaming until 2026 when it will increase to 20%.

Retail sports wagering through the Connecticut Lottery began on October 25, though a so-called soft launch with limited online gambling and sports betting began earlier that month.

Walker takes first place in essay contest

Contributed to the Coshocton Tribune

COSHOCTON — Jack Walker III took first place in the 2021 Mary Harris Prizes essay contest for non-fiction writing.

The awards are annually sponsored by Scott Butler and are to encourage the study and better understanding of Coshocton’s frontier history. It’s open to persons of any age who reside or work in Coshocton County, including students whose permanent home is in the county. The essays are judged double-blind by Butler and an out-of-state panel of individuals.

In Walker’s “A Living Document,” he describes the importance of avoiding personal bias when it comes to writing non-fiction. He also explores the need to accept that revisions and objectivity are needed when it comes to writing non-fiction, a task that can be difficult when facing history that has been accepted as the truth for long periods. Walker weaves this into his journey of researching his family’s genealogy. Ultimately, he describes history as a living document, something that is always open to change as discoveries are uncovered.

Second place was split between three entrants. Robbie Khel’s “The Bug” detailed a string of fires in Roscoe in 1912. Martha Richardson’s “John Chapman: Pleasure or Profit?” questioned the motivations behind the actions of the man known as Johnny Appleseed. Jennifer Wilkes’ “Pike Township, Coshocton County: A History” tells the story of the southwest corner of Coshocton County from the frontier and its wildlife, the first settlers, to the growth of the township.

Four essays received honorable mentions. They were Annalissa Hankinson’s “The Delaware Tribe of Coshocton County,” Dana M. Kittner’s “Human Trafficking in North American: A firsthand account by John Leith,” Verlyn Miller’s “Religious History of the Delaware and Moravians” and Christine Sycks’ “Where Paths of Others Lead.”

Sarabia: “Setién’s settlement is close to being resolved”

Eder Sarabia has gone through the microphones of ‘El Larguero’ of Cadena SER after qualifying for the second round of Copa del Rey by winning with him Andorra to Náxara by 0-1. The coach reviewed the moment of the club and ruled on the settlement that Barça owes Setién.

Setien settlement: “It is close to being resolved. Barça has understood that when there are contracts in between, they must be fulfilled. My sister, who is a lawyer, has told me that this directive with Laporta has understood that things have to be resolved as God intended.”

He misses Setién: “I talk a lot with him. Fulfilling expectations. A very familiar project with very clear things”

Copa del Rey: “Good after the first round on a difficult field.”

President Piqué was not in the box: “He has his things.”

Talk to Piqué after the game: “He follows him very closely, he watches all the games. Today we talked. We are very excited about this competition”

Andorra-Barça: “We were going to make it difficult for them and at certain times we would take the ball from them.”
