Peter Wright will take to the Ally Pally stage for his third PDC World Darts Championship final on Monday evening – and will again don his trademark mohawk and ‘war paint’.

Snakebite put in a memorable display to see off the threat of fellow Scot Gary Anderson in their semi-final on Sunday, and will now take on Michael Smith after Bully Boy demolished James Wade.

Wright is full of confidence having picked up World Matchplay and Players Championship Final triumphs in 2021, having been crowned World Champion for the first time back in 2020.

The 51-year-old began his career with the BDO back in 1995, and looked unrecognisable without his now-familiar look which has been crafted by his loved ones.

Wife Jo, who is also Peter’s manager, is a hairdresser by trade and has played a vital part in forming Snakebite’s flamboyant do during his time in professional darts.

She owns her own salon called Medusa Hair in Lowestoft, Suffolk, and once spent almost five hours perfecting a look for her other half.

He said in 2013: “It takes about two hours every day after practice in my chilling out time. I sit there chilling, and my wife Jo does my hair.”

Lackawanna County Commissioners along with other agencies opened a free COVID-19 testing site at The Steamtown Movie Theater.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — There are no movie stars on the silver screen, but The Steamtown Movie Theater is acting as a COVID-19 testing site in downtown Scranton.

Free, rapid COVID-19 tests are available inside the building on Lackawanna Avenue.

“I am very glad that they opened this location because for you to get testing, it’s very hard. Most places are packed, and they can’t handle it anymore,” said Lena Ferris, Dunmore.

Lackawanna County Commissioners, along with the Department of Health and Human Services, opened this testing clinic with help from Interim HealthCare, a home health and healthcare staffing service agency.

The testing site is part of a safety plan. Lackawanna County declared a state of emergency late last month in response to rising cases and concern over the omicron variant.

“I tested positive about 15, 14 days ago, and by being positive, I was unable to have my granddaughters and family to our house for dinner. I was tied up in the house for the last 11 days. When I saw this, the county was offering this, I came down, I think it’s the first day, and I got the really good news that I am negative. I am ready to go home and celebrate,” said Marty Lawler, Carbondale.

For this specific testing center in downtown Scranton, you will need to fill out a form first. You cannot walk in to get a test.

A few people who stopped by the clinic didn’t know you needed to make an appointment.

Corry Area Middle-High School is looking to eliminate the use of e-cigarettes by students on campus, especially in bathrooms.

E-cigarettes are electronic devices that heat a liquid typically containing nicotine and produce an aerosol or a mix of small particles in the air, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The use of e-cigarettes is commonly referred to as “vaping.”

Corry Area School Board member Amy Allen brought up students vaping in bathrooms during a Nov. 22 school board meeting.

Allen was in attendance at the high school’s Pennsylvania Business Week and said she enjoyed the opportunity to speak with students and staff about concerns they had.

“I heard there’s some issues of kids vaping in bathrooms. I had a couple teachers come up to me. Apparently they have done research about devices that can get put into restrooms that will alert us if kids are vaping in bathrooms and we can respond to it,” Allen said during the meeting.

Corry Area School District Director of Buildings and Grounds Mike Munsee said they are aware of the problem and have also researched the so-called “vape detectors,” which operate similarly to a smoke detector but do not emit an audible sound.

“Instead of it going off like a smoke detector, it alerts through the school network to a work station with somebody,” Munsee told The Corry Journal.

If the device detects the use of e-cigarettes, then it will transmit a notification to school officials, such as a principal, who will investigate the situation.

The school district has ordered vape detectors and plans to install them in every student-accessible bathroom in the middle-high school, according to Munsee.

“They are on order. I’m just waiting for them to come in,” Munsee said. “They work pretty well from what I understand.”

LOUDONVILLE – With a couple of new activities on the agenda, the 2022 Mohican Winterfest, the village’s mid-winter extravaganza, will run Friday through Sunday, Jan. 7-9, downtown.

New to the Winterfest, according to a schedule provided by Valerie Spreng, executive director of the sponsoring Loudonville-Mohican Chamber of Commerce, will be a show of vintage and newer snowmobiles in Central Park from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, along with a Poker Walk, sponsored by American Legion Post 257, running from 1-4 p.m. Saturday and starting at the Legion on South Water Street.

Vehicle strikes school building: School to resume Monday for McMullen students after truck strikes building

A tradition at the Winterfest for the past seven or eight years is the Model Train Expo, again to be set up in the Loudonville Fair Building on North Street downtown. Model train enthusiasts will set up their train displays in the fair building, which will be open for public viewing Friday from 4-8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

Learn how to make a hiking stick

Activities will begin Friday at 1 p.m. at the Mohican State Park Class A campground, on state Route 3 a mile south of Loudonville, when a demonstration on how to make a hiking stick will be conducted.

Also, on tap Friday will be entertainment at the Ugly Bunny Winery, located a mile east of the village on state Route 39, by Tyler Chaffee.

Friday at 7 p.m., and again at 7 on Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday, the Ohio Theatre on North Water Street will show the movie “Spider Man No Way Home.”

Ice sculptors and specialists from Elegant Ice Creations, located in Broadview Heights, will set up the Winterfest’s iconic ice sculptures starting late Friday afternoon.
