Josh Valencia of Lenape Valley voted Morris/Sussex Wrestler of the Week for Week 5

After four days of voting, Lenape Valley senior Josh Valencia has been selected as the Morris/Sussex Wrestler of the Week for Week 5.

Valencia extended his win streak to five bouts as he improved to 10-4 on the year. He avenged a loss to Vernon/Wallkill Valley’s Shane Saulnier with an 8-3 win. Valencia also picked up a 1-0 win over Dover’s Dixon Dominguez and 2-0 win over Morris Hills’ Tyler Fro.

Here were the other nominees:

Steven Dalling

Despite a tough week from the Kittatinny squad, Dalling provided wins in each of his bouts against High Point and Phillipsburg. He decked High Point’s Nick Marangi in 27 seconds and followed it up with a 7-1 win over the Stateliners’ Hunter Cleaver.

Dominic DelleMonache

DelleMonache was at the forefront of Morris Knolls’ success on the week as it went 5-0 including a big win over Mendham. DelleMonache was 5-0 himself, including three first-period wins and major decisions over Madison’s Michael McGuire and Mendham’s Michael Oths.

Aidan Murtagh

Murtagh has consistently wrestled up in weight this season to help the Braves fill out their lineup. Last week, Murtagh was 3-1 with a 9-0 major decision over Egg Harbor’s Justus Bird, 7-5 win over Austin Boos of Delsea and pin of Colton Calhoun of Holy Spirit. His lone loss came when bumped up to 165 pounds.

DJ Ryerson

Mount Olive senior

Ryerson was a perfect 4-0 on the week, matching the Marauders’ mark, to improve to 17-5. He pinned Pope John’s Joe Rozynski, earned a 13-0 major decision over St. Thomas Aquinas’ Liam Zeh and grabbed decision wins against Hunterdon Central’s Henry Wilkinson and Westfield’s Luke Jacobs

Concert Connection: Billie Eilish sets Boston concert date

Singer and songwriter Billie Eilish is set to perform Feb. 20 at the TD Garden in Boston.

Following the release of her latest single “Your Power,” and ahead of the July 30th release of her forthcoming album ‘Happier Than Ever,’ artist Billie has announced the first leg of her “Happier Than Ever, The World Tour”, set to commence in Feb. 2022. The 32-date North American arena run will be making stops across North America, before heading across the Atlantic for an 18-date arena tour across Europe and the United Kingdom.

The seven-time Grammy Award winning artist and songwriter has also confirmed she will be continuing her work with sustainability partner Reverb for her “Happier Than Ever, The World Tour”, with the fan-facing Billie Eilish Action Village at each show. The village will focus on climate action and climate justice, hosting and supporting BIPOC and women-led environmental organizations as well as a comprehensive program via REVERB’s forthcoming Music Climate Revolution campaign.

In addition to reducing the tour’s environmental footprint, the initiative will support projects that directly and measurably eliminate greenhouse gases. These collective efforts will make the tour Climate Positive; eliminating significantly more emissions than the tour creates.

Gucci gets bashed by online critics after advertising a £2,200 equestrian-style sun visor

Gucci has been mocked for horsing around by selling a sun visor with equine hair for £2,200.

The Italian fashion house’s black leather visor has been likened to bondage gear, while one baffled shopper said it resembled a Spartan helmet.

The listing on the Gucci website reads: ‘Equestrian references, dating back to the 1950s, are continually revisited in new and unexpected ways.

‘This visor is characterised by a black leather harness, recalling those used in horse riding.’

‘A striking rendition of a horse’s mane completes the style.’

Gucci has been attacked by online critics after selling a sun visor with a horse hair mohican for £2,200

The headpiece features a visor for keeping the sun out of the wearer’s eyes and an open harnes system that goes around the head

One user thought the hat was more suited to appearing in San Francisco’s annual BDSM carnival

The ‘Visor with harness’ only keeps bright light out of the wearers’ eyes and doesn’t offer the head any protection from the sun’s rays because it’s open at the top, apart from the horse mane covering.

It does, however, boast an adjustable chin strap and buckle.

Gucci first unveiled the accessory in April 2021 with models parading it on the catwalk, before its recent attention online.

Commenter James Worrad was baffled by the price and said on Twitter: ‘£2,200 this’ll set you back, guys. A must-have, clearly.’

The ‘Visor With ‘Harness’ features real horse hair in a mohican style to add to the equestrian look

Another commenter was surprised at the steep price given the eccentricity of the unusual garment

Lee Thomason compared it to the clobber worn at the famous San Francisco BDSM event.

He added: ‘Looks like something you’d see at the Folsom Street…

Artist Jennifer Zackin to exhibt at East Stroudsburg University in February

STAFF REPORTS  |  Pocono Record

Art lovers will get a chance to explore “gravity-defying” world of Jennifer Zackin this February at East Stroudsburg University.

ESU’s Madelon Powers Gallery will present Transfiguration: Woven Forms by Zackin in February, starting with a reception slated for 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Transfiguration: Woven Forms presents new sculptural works created by Zackin during the pandemic. In this body of work, Zackin takes a deeper dive into her Vortex Weavings. Mathematically speaking, a vortex is a three-dimensional ring or doughnut shaped-object around which energy can flow. As it spins, a vortex forms through its central axis. This pattern can be found throughout the universe in hurricanes, galaxies, and atoms.

ESU news: Lessons from Dr. King: ESU event highlights ‘common humanity’, awards scholarships

Of interest: ESU senior project explores connections between university and Lenape

The artist’s ongoing Vortex works are woven with various materials — often cotton rope — on large cube-shaped looms.

For the current exhibition, Zackin has created Phoenix, a 44-inch by 44-inch loom onto which she has woven a fabric made from her own old clothing, piecing together bits and scraps to create a new, cohesive, multidimensional form.

The exhibit will feature Zackin’s 7 Chairs series, which utilizes late-20th Century lawn furniture and tractor seat stools as armatures for “imaginary 3-dimensional landscapes”. The landscapes are woven from materials such as colorful rope and scraps of fabric to craft gravity-defying, “underwater-like” worlds that incorporate mountain ranges, escape hatches and refuges.

Visitors to the gallery, which is free and open to the public, are invited to bring an article of clothing to be woven into a community Vortex project. Over the course of the exhibition, through the interweaving of parts of our personal history, a unique collective fabric will begin to emerge.

For the last 22 years, Zackin has been integrating public art, sculpture, installation, performance,…

‘The Return’: New York City’s first for-Lenape, by-Lenape art exhibit opens in Brooklyn

Details By Jenna Kunze January 26, 2022

NEW YORK CITY—Curator, artist, and educator Joe Baker (Delaware Tribe of Indians) says his new exhibit, “Lenapehoking” (Lenape Land), at the Brooklyn Public Library’s branch in the Greenpoint neighborhood, upends museum hierarchies, in part simply by existing.

“There’s never been an exhibition to recognize Lenape people here in New York City,” Baker, a cofounder of the Lenape Center in Manhattan, told Native News Online during a walk-through of the exhibit before it opened Jan. 20.

He said he had to knock on a lot of doors to get an exhibit up. “My goal in exhibiting this historic material is to present it—not only to the public, but to our own community—to bring this important work back into contemporary narratives,” he explained.

Want more Native News? Get the free daily newsletter today.

The exhibit includes Baker’s own art: three handcrafted beaded bags, called bandolier bags, that are specifically worn by Lenape men on special occasions to identify individuals. It also displays two historic bags, one recently purchased by the Brooklyn Museum of Art and lent to the exhibition, and the other held by a private collector.

Because the bags are so prized by collectors, Baker said he never saw one in real life until he was completing a residency at the National Museum of the American Indian in Manhattan.

“The message is: the return,” Baker said of the exhibit. “The idea that this important element of Lenape men’s dress be revived and could be returned to our communities.”

Lenape people lived on homelands across the Northeast until they were pushed out to Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Ontario by European settlers, beginning in the 17th century.

Also returned and exhibited on the back wall…
