Convicted murderer who escaped Pennsylvania prison spotted on surveillance video

POCOPSON TWP., Penn. — The manhunt continues for a convicted murderer who escaped the Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township, Pennsylvania.

Federal and local law enforcement have been searching for 34-year-old Danelo Cavalcante since his 8:50 a.m. escape on Thursday.

He was recently spotted around 1:43 a.m. Saturday on surveillance video on the 1800 block of Lenape Road in Pocopson Township. It’s about 1.5 miles from the prison.

He was observed wearing pants, a white T-shirt and white sneakers, and he had a backpack.

Authorities believe that he’s been wearing prison-issued pants and prison-issued shorts underneath when he escaped on August 31. They do not know at this time where he obtained the backpack.

“His appearance has remained unchanged,” District Attorney Deb Ryan said during a Saturday press conference.

Police have responded to well over 100 tips from neighbors in the area, including allegations of possible break-ins to residential homes in the vicinity, within a one to two-mile radius of the prison.

Around 11:30 p.m. Friday, one resident reported an attempted burglary on the 1000 block of Ballintree Lane in Pocopson Township. It’s still unclear if it was Cavalcante.

“We are requesting that residents in the area of Pocopson Township remain inside. Lock your doors, lock your cars. He is still considered an extremely dangerous individual. There is evidence to suggest that he’s still in that local residence. We do not believe he has gotten more than one to two miles away from the prison,” said Ryan.

“We believe we are getting closer to locating the suspect at this time, and we are narrowing the scope of our search,” Ryan added.

H.S. Football: Old Forge escapes Nanticoke Area with touchdown on final play

NANTICOKE — The rare blue supermoon peaked over the Nanticoke treeline with the most inopportune timing. It was an ominous — if not too on the nose — sign that an upset victory over a football powerhouse might not come as easy for the upstart Trojans.

Disregarding any cosmic forces, the numbers looked fortuitous for the Nanticoke Area defense. After all, Old Forge had less than two minutes to travel more than four-fifths of the field for a touchdown. The Trojans’ defense held the Blue Devils to only three first downs, and Old Forge’s total yards hadn’t yet eclipsed the century mark.

Suddenly, an uncharacteristically sputtering Old Forge team suddenly seemed like the Old Forge of yore. The Blue Devils marched down the field with ease for a winning touchdown and extra point just as the scoreboard expired.

Nanticoke Area fell to Old Forge 14-13 in a mystifying final two minutes on Friday night.

“Being young is great because they are not smart enough to be worried and they’re not intimidated,” Old Forge coach Mike Schuback said. “That’s a heck of a football team they have over there in Nanticoke. They are big. They are physical.”

TJ DiMattia hit Joe Granko on a 9-yard quick slant for the game-tying touchdown. The final siren blared just as Granko powered his way across the goal line to even the score at 13 apiece. Old Forge kicker Isiah Rodriguez hit the winning extra point.

“I was wide open, but I got hit,” Granko said. “Somehow I hung onto it.”

After the Blue Devils moved into the red zone with ease thanks to an outstanding reception by Chris Rasmus, Nanticoke’s defense put them on the ropes with 23 seconds remaining. Seth Raymer and Jaidyn Johnson combined…

‘Over the Edge’ raises the roof and money for Special Olympics

A 13-year tradition at Mohegan Sun is 31 stories up.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — High-limit gaming is nothing new at Mohegan Sun except when it happens on the roof of the casino; That happens at the end of each Summer for the “Over the Edge” challenge.

For 13 years, mild-mannered folks have channeled their inner superhero to rappel down the Sky Tower to raise money for the Special Olympics of Connecticut.

“It’s a sold-out event with well over 90 participants,” said Debbie Horne, the director of communications and marketing for the Special Olympics of Connecticut. “We’re hoping for over 100 thousand dollars, and I think we’re super close to our goal if we haven’t met it.”

“Over the Edge is a company that supports non-profits by going down high-rise buildings,” said Daryl Byrne, the site and safety supervisor for “Over the Edge.” and a retired firefighter. “Some people come with no experience at all, trying to hang their backsides off a building and be able to go down it – so it encourages them to take a step that maybe they’ve never taken before.”

As the day progressed, dozens and dozens of people finished descending the Mohegan Sun Sky Tower, all with a lifelong memory.

Al Gorski, a Connecticut State Police detective said after he came down the 270-foot tower, “It was fun, it was something exhilarating, and something different.”

“It doesn’t get old, it’s always something good and trying to do something good for somebody else,” said Byrne.

How did a murder convict escape the Chester County Prison? Here’s what we know

POCOPSON TWP., Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Federal and local law enforcement agencies have been searching for a murder convict who escaped a Chester County, Pennsylvania prison earlier this week.

Danelo Cavalcante has been on the run since Thursday. Here’s everything we know about the case:

The escape

Cavalcante escaped the Chester County Prison at 8:50 a.m. on August 31. He was seen walking on Wawaset Road in Pocopson Township around 9:40 a.m. the same day.

Recent sightings

Police have responded to well over 100 tips from neighbors in the area, including allegations of possible break-ins to residential homes in the vicinity within a one to two-mile radius of the prison.

Cavalcante may have been on the 1000 block of Ballintree Lane on Friday night. There was a report of an attempted burglary around 11:30 p.m. Police are not sure if it was Cavalcante.

Early the next morning, there was a confirmed sighting of Cavalcante on the 1800 block of Lenape Road in Pocopson Township. A resident’s Ring camera captured the convict walking through the neighborhood around 1:43 a.m.

He was observed wearing pants, a white T-shirt and white sneakers, and he had a backpack.

“His appearance has remained unchanged,” District Attorney Deb Ryan said during a Saturday press conference.

Convicted for stabbing former girlfriend

Cavalcante was convicted of first-degree murder on Aug. 16 for fatally stabbing his former girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, 38 times in front of her two young children in Schuylkill Township in 2021, officials said. At the time there was an active warrant for his arrest for an alleged murder that occurred in his native country of Brazil in 2017, according to Ryan.

A jury took just 15 minutes to convict Cavalcante.

He was sentenced to life in prison without parole last week for the fatal stabbing and was set to be transferred to a…
