Murderer who escaped Chester County Prison caught on video 1.5 miles from the prison Saturday morning, DA says

As the search for convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante continues, authorities say the escaped prisoner was seen on surveillance video near the jail early Saturday morning.

Cavalcante, 34, was seen on a residential camera around 12:30 a.m. on the 1800 block of Lenape Road in Pocopson Township, just 1.5 miles from Chester County Prison. He is wearing pants, a light-colored t-shirt, and white sneakers. Cavalcante was described to be 5 feet tall and about 120 pounds with curly black hair and brown eyes, District Attorney Deb Ryan said.

An hour before Cavalcante was seen on camera, an attempted burglary was reported on the 1000 block of Ballintree Lane in Pocopson Township. Pocopson Township is 7 miles south of West Chester and about a 40-mile drive west from Center City.

Law enforcement agencies, including local, state, and federal authorities, U.S. Marshals, and SWAT teams, are searching the area.

“Law enforcement is requesting that residents in the area remain indoors. Lock your vehicles. Review your surveillance cameras and contact the police if you observe anything suspicious. Danelo Cavalcante is considered an extremely dangerous man. Please remain vigilant in assisting with this search. If you see this individual, do not approach him. Call 911 immediately,” Ryan said.

Cavalcante escaped the Chester County Prison on Thursday morning and was reported missing around 8:50 a.m. He was seen walking along Wawaset Road in Pocopson Township at 9:40 a.m. Cavalcante had yet to be transported to a state prison following his sentencing. On Aug. 16, he was sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Deborah Brandao, outside of a home in Schuylkill Township.

Authorities said Brandao threatened to go to police with information about Cavalcante’s involvement in a 2017 homicide in Brazil before he fled to the United States and settled in Pennsylvania.

There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to Cavalcante’s arrest. Anyone with information on Cavalcante’s whereabouts can call 911…

Luzerne County Man Sentenced To 42 Months’ Imprisonment For Covid-Relief And Credit Card Fraud, And Identity Theft Offenses

SCRANTON- The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today that Reynard Lewis, age 30, formerly of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, was sentenced by United States District Judge Robert D. Mariani to 42 months of imprisonment, for wire fraud conspiracy and aggravated identity theft offenses.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, Lewis and his coconspirators used stolen identities to create forged identification documents and credit and debit cards.  The conspirators used those forged items and stolen identities to open bank accounts, apply for lines of credit, and obtain retail merchandise.  The conspirators also used the stolen identities to apply for multiple COVID-19 pandemic relief loans issued under the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), including by submitted false federal tax documentation.  The conspirators allegedly received over $100,000 in pandemic stimulus funds.

The PPP is designed to help small businesses facing financial difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Funded by the March 2020 CARES Act, PPP funds are offered in forgivable loans, provided that certain criteria are met, including use of the funds for employee payroll, mortgage interest, lease, and utilities expenses.

Lewis previously was charged in a criminal complaint and arrested on September 16, 2022.  He has remained in detention since his arrest.  Lewis’s alleged coconspirator, Robert Brownstein, age 51, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, was previously charged in a criminal information with wire fraud conspiracy and aggravated identity theft.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, and the Pottsville Bureau of Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Phillip J. Caraballo is prosecuting the case.

On May 17, 2021, the Attorney General established the COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement Task Force to marshal the resources of the Department of Justice in partnership with agencies across government to enhance efforts to combat and prevent pandemic-related…

Convicted murderer who escaped Chester County Prison spotted on surveillance video in Pocopson Twp.

POCOPSON TWP., Pennsylvania (WPVI) — The manhunt continues for a convicted murderer who escaped the Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township, Pennsylvania.

Federal and local law enforcement have been searching for 34-year-old Danelo Cavalcante since his 8:50 a.m. escape on Thursday.

He was recently spotted around 1:43 a.m. Saturday on surveillance video on the 1800 block of Lenape Road in Pocopson Township. It’s about 1.5 miles from the prison.

He was observed wearing pants, a white T-shirt and white sneakers, and he had a backpack.

Authorities believe that he’s been wearing prison-issued pants and prison-issued shorts underneath when he escaped on August 31. They do not know at this time where he obtained the backpack.

“His appearance has remained unchanged,” District Attorney Deb Ryan said during a Saturday press conference.

Police have responded to well over 100 tips from neighbors in the area, including allegations of possible break-ins to residential homes in the vicinity within a one to two-mile radius of the prison.

Around 11:30 p.m. Friday, one resident reported an attempted burglary on the 1000 block of Ballintree Lane in Pocopson Township. It’s still unclear if it was Cavalcante.

“We are requesting that residents in the area of Pocopson Township remain inside. Lock your doors, lock your cars. He is still considered an extremely dangerous individual. There is evidence to suggest that he’s still in that local residence. We do not believe he has gotten more than one to two miles away from the prison,” said Ryan.

“We believe we are getting closer to locating the suspect at this time, and we are narrowing the scope of our search,” Ryan added.

Convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante escaped the Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township, Pennsylvania.

Convicted for stabbing former girlfriend

Cavalcante was convicted of first-degree murder on Aug. 16 for fatally stabbing his former girlfriend, Deborah Brandao,…

The Stockbridge Library, Museum & Archives opens Homeland: Stockbridge-Munsee Artists’ exhibit featuring artists Rebecca Burr, Reva Fuhrman, and Terri O’Connor

Stockbridge— On Friday, September 8th, the Stockbridge Library, Museum & Archives opens “Homeland: Stockbridge-Munsee Artists” exhibit featuring artists Rebecca Burr, Reva Fuhrman, and Terri O’Connor.

Rebecca Burr is exhibiting her oil on canvas paintings. Burr’s work covers a variety of styles and subject matter. Commissions for home and office have included landscapes, abstracts, modern art, and Native American art. Burr is a member of the Mohican tribe and a self-taught artist since age 12. Growing up on the Red River in Wisconsin, which is where she lives today, she developed a personal connection with Mother Earth that resonates throughout her work. Inspiration for her mountain themes comes from the time when she lived in the Sierra Nevada Mountains where her son was born.

Reva Fuhrman, is an enrolled member of the Stockbridge Munsee Tribe, retired, and living on the Stockbridge Munsee reservation. Reva has been seriously beading for 23 years, first starting at age16. She is also part Iroquois and does the raised Iroquois beadwork as well as flat beadwork which was customary for the Mohican/Lenape people. She has studied beadwork from many tribes over the years. She creates her own base patterns and looks at images of historical beadwork and then creates her own rendition which is pleasing to her eye. Fuhman has several items in collections in the New York State Museum and also in Phillipse Manor Hall State Historic Site in Yonkers, N.Y. She was chosen by the Wisconsin Arts Board to teach apprentices how to bead from 2016 – 2019.
