Southern, Lenape win at Score at the Shore

Jake Sliwinski finished with 23 points and four steals while Noah Perna had 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists as Southern pulled away from Trenton 72-58 at the Score at the Shore Tournament in Manahawkin.

Leo Crowley tallied 13 points and eight rebounds Caden Schubiger dished out 10 assists for Southern (3-2), which has won three of its last four games.

Thomas Munoz buried six three-pointers to lead all scorers with 25 points for Trenton (1-4). Qadir Dixon and Juan Sanchez each had 12 points.

Lenape 68, Cedar Creek 26

Tye Dorset tallied 20 points as Lenape outpaced Cedar Creek 68-26 in Manahawkin.

Matt Liebling and Jake Simkins each produced eight points while Aaron Lassiter had seven points for Lenape (5-1), which won its fourth straight game.

Amon McLaughlin led Cedar Creek (0-6) with six points.

Mainland 68, Howell 59

Cohen Cook had a game-high 24 points as Mainland held off Howell 68-59 in Manahawkin.

Mainland (5-0) forced Howell to make nine turnovers in the first half and forced them to miss several three-pointers in a row but Howell maintained the deficit at 34-28 for the half.

David Orloff led Howell (3-2) with 20 points while Chris Meehan and Cayden Parker each had 12 points. Joe Vella tallied 11 points.

Pop star Howard Jones says he’s working with AI to create music after his death

As an artist ahead of his time, Howard Jones was the first to play the keyboard like a guitar, and wore his hair in a two-tone Mohican to get noticed. Now, 40 years after he brought synth-pop to the 1980s, he is pushing the boundaries again.

The 68-year-old singer, who had six UK Top 10 hits at the height of his fame, is having an AI version of his voice made so he can create choirs of himself, and keep singing even if he loses his voice – or perhaps even after he is gone. The technology may have been causing more concern than excitement, but Howard says he is embracing it, albeit with some precautions.

He says: “I still try to keep up with new technology, but this is the thing I’m very excited about. My friend, BT, who is an American electronic artist, is making the AI version of my voice. I’ll be able to use it in the studio to create choirs and different extensions of the voice, I can’t wait to use that.”

He admits it could keep him singing after age affects his voice, but says: “It isn’t primarily for longevity. If you lose your voice, or in the studio you need to fill in a part that’s in your head you can call on the AI version.”

Incomplete Justice: The Case of a Unami Doctor Who Lost His Job to a Fraudster

Recently, the Crime Branch of Jammu & Kashmir Police produced a charge sheet against a Ganderbal resident who had obtained a fake class 12th  marks certificate to get admission in Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery or the BUMS course. This degree paved a way for him to get a job in the Health Department of J&K Government under the centrally sponsored scheme National Health Mission-NHM. Infact, this fake Unani Doctor has already been dismissed from service by the Government. 

However, only incomplete justice has been done in this case. The case is far from settled as the aggrieved Unani doctor who was supposed to get this job hasn’t gotten it even after 10 years have passed already. Dr Zaffar Shaheen, a qualified BUMS graduate, who was eligible to get a job under RBSK programme in district Ganderbal was bypassed by the district level selection committee and a candidate who hadn’t even passed his class 12th and had furnished fake documents was given this job. 

The aggrieved Unani doctor Zaffar Shaheen didn’t surrender to the decision. He fought for justice until the fake BUMS doctor was finally exposed.

In 2013, the Government had invited applications for the appointment of Medical Officers (Ayush) for Rashtriya Bal Swastha Kariakram — RBSK under National Health Mission -NHM for block Kangan in district Ganderbal.
