Mohegan: “Along with cashless and digital gaming, AI will be another area that will garner a lot of attention over the next year”

Gaming and hospitality firm Mohegan went through several major developments in 2023, among them the first step towards Asian expansion by soft-launching its INSPIRE resort in South Korea in November. However, the company is also working towards growth opportunities elsewhere, including the digital gaming segment, where Mohegan is seeking to secure a premier position by leveraging the latest technological advancements.

In a special interview with Yogonet, Ray Pineault, President and CEO of Mohegan, highlights the company’s strategic investments in 2023, discusses the adoption of emerging trends and AI’s significance in the gaming industry, and reveals some of the company’s plans for 2024.

2023 was a period of tremendous growth for the gaming industry in the US. What is your assessment of the year, and what were the main highlights for Mohegan over the past 12 months? Do you think the industry’s momentum will continue in 2024?

2023 was remarkable for the US gaming industry, witnessing substantial growth and innovation, a trend mirrored by Mohegan’s developments. A key highlight for Mohegan was the soft opening of the Mohegan INSPIRE resort in South Korea on November 30th, marking a pivotal moment of our expansion into the Asian market. This significant step included unveiling multiple facilities like a hotel arena, MICE facilities, and signature restaurants.

The momentum in the gaming industry is being fueled by technological advancements, along with consumers’ growing appetite for both traditional and digital gaming experiences, and it is expected to continue in 2024.

As you mentioned, the year marked Mohegan’s expansion into South Korea through the soft launch of its INSPIRE resort, its first property in the Asian market. What is the significance of a launch of this scale for the company, and what should we expect from it in 2024?

Shoppers linked by love of Christmas kielbasa

Newswatch 16’s Melissa Steininger takes us to Luzerne County, where people are going crazy for kielbasa.

NANTICOKE, Pa. — It’s a sign of the season in northeastern Pennsylvania—Tarnowski’s Kielbasa in Nanticoke piping out thousands of pounds of sausage for the Christmas holiday.

“We’ve been prepping all month,” said owner Anastasia Vishnefski. “We really started the official Christmas season on December 5, so now it’s 20 days.”

The lines are out the door as people wait to get their fill.

“Let me tell you, Tarnowski’s kielbasa ain’t no Hillshire, ok? This is this real thing,” said Florida resident Cindy Garren.

“I’m getting hungry just smelling this place,” said Ted Komoroski from Nanticoke.

While the lines are long, people are coming from near and far to bring home this northeastern Pennsylvania tradition.

“Kielbasa and pierogi and pagach—that’s what brought me up here!” Garren said.

Cindy Garren traveled to Luzerne County from Florida to get a little taste of home for the holidays.

“You had it Christmas day, and the day after Christmas, and the day after Christmas, and the day after Christmas. And then you had it on Sundays, too,” Garren said.

It’s been a staple on the table for those who lived near Nanticoke for generations.

“We’re founded in Glen Lyon, practically built the place. And it’s nice to have that family tradition and eat the food your ancestors ate,” said Bailey Levandowski.

And it’s tradition for Tarnowski’s, too.

“We’re using the original family recipe that Grandpa started in 1946. So, it’s important to keep it going,” Vishnefski said.

It’s not just kielbasa that’s filling up plates this holiday.

NEPA’rogi, right inside Tarnowski’s, are pinching their way through the season.

“We worked really hard to get the orders out of the way. We’ve had over 1,200 orders. Now, we’re…

Open Source: Here’s why some ‘park-and-pack’ campsites at Mohican are still closed

OPEN SOURCE: This story originated from a question via the Open Source platform at this link. Readers can use the platform to submit tips and questions.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP — Some popular backcountry “park-and-pack” campsites in Mohican-Memorial State Forest have reopened, but a few remain closed.

The backcountry campsites scattered throughout the state forest have been closed since June 2022, when a tornado ripped through the area, leaving fallen trees and disfigured trails.

Crews with the state’s division of forestry have taken the last year-and-a-half to clean up and reopen the sites.

Sites 1 through 7 reopened in late October, with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry making an announcement on its website Nov. 13.

Three other sites, however — eight, nine and 10 — remain closed indefinitely.

Chad Sanders, the forest’s manager, said the reason those will remain closed is so his office and law enforcement can consider management options.

“Eight, nine and 10 have always been problematic,” he said.

Sanders said illegal activity at those campsites has ramped up since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’ve had homeless people camping there, partying and drugs associated with that,” Sanders said. “We had some incidents with neighbors, people threatening neighbors.”

The park-and-pack sites have been open for public use for more than 20 years, Sanders said.

The relative ease of registration and the fact they are free to use makes the sites popular among outdoor enthusiasts, Sanders said.

“The idea behind them is if you wanted to park your car, hike in a short distance with your family, you could,” he said. “It’s like having a camp away from a campground.”

The parking lot…

The Delaware Indians: History, Culture, and Legacy

The Delaware Indians are a Native American tribe indigenous to the northeastern woodlands of the United States. Also known as the Lenape, they have a rich history, vibrant culture, and a lasting impact on the region. In this article, we will delve into their origins, explore their way of life, and examine their enduring legacy.

Origins and Migration

The Delaware Indians can trace their origins back thousands of years. Scholars believe they were among the first indigenous peoples to inhabit the Northeast, with evidence of their presence dating back over 10,000 years. They originally occupied an expansive territory covering parts of present-day New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

As European colonizers arrived, the Delaware Indians faced significant pressures, including land encroachment and conflicts. Over time, they were forced to migrate westward, eventually settling in Ohio, Indiana, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

Culture and Way of Life

The Delaware Indians had a complex and diverse culture characterized by strong social organization and spiritual beliefs. They were skilled hunters, gatherers, and farmers, relying on the abundant resources of their environment. Community was highly valued, and decision-making was based on consensus within clans or tribal councils.

Their spiritual beliefs were centered on a profound respect for nature and the interconnectedness of all things. Rituals, ceremonies, and storytelling were integral to their cultural practices, serving as a means of passing down knowledge and preserving their heritage.

European Contact and Impacts

When Europeans arrived in the Delaware Indians’ ancestral lands, their way of life changed dramatically. As trade and colonial expansion intensified, the tribe faced numerous challenges including warfare, disease, and the loss of their lands.

Despite these adversities, the Delaware Indians maintained their resilience and adapted to the changing circumstances. They often formed alliances with European powers, such as the British and Dutch, in an attempt to protect their interests and cultural autonomy.
