COLUMBUS – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is opening registration for the 10th-annual Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure weekend. The three-day event is set to take place at the breathtaking Mohican State Park Lodge & Conference Center from September 20-22, according to a news release.
This exciting weekend is designed to introduce women to an array of outdoor skills, including boating, fishing, shooting sports, and nature programming. The program, which is open to women aged 16 and older (minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian), is tailored for beginners while offering a welcoming, pressure-free environment to explore new outdoor activities.
“This event provides a fantastic opportunity for women to build their outdoor recreation skills, forge new friendships, and simply have fun,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “Women of all ages will enjoy a weekend filled with discovering new outdoor pursuits.”
The event involves several of ODNR’s divisions including, Parks & Watercraft, Forestry, Natural Areas & Preserves, Wildlife, and Geological Survey. This ensures a diverse range of activities and programs, as well as expert guidance.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of sessions, such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, hiking, shotgun and rifle basics, stream quality monitoring, wild edibles, sustainable living, and more.
Accommodations for the weekend will be at the Mohican State Park Lodge & Conference Center, located in Perrysville (Ashland County). Situated on thousands of wooded acres, Mohican State Park is a must-see for adventurers and nature lovers. Attendees will enjoy a fun weekend while staying in newly updated, comfortable lodge rooms.
The cost for the weekend is $395 per person, with…
Coming up this Saturday evening, July 13, will be the first of Lenape Chamber Ensemble’s three Summer Gala Concerts at Delaware Valley University’s Life Sciences Building in Doylestown.
Concert-goers can hear chamber music at its best played by distinguished musicians well-known to Bucks County audiences on July 13, 20 and 27 at 8 p.m.
This Saturday’s program begins with Franz Josef Haydn’s “String Quartet opus 74 no. 3,” written in 1793 during the peak of his impressive musical output. It has been named “The Horseman” or “Rider” because of the jogging rhythm at the beginning of the piece.
Performing this Quartet will be Kobi Malkin, concertmaster of the American Ballet Theater, violinist Katie Hyun an ASTRAL artist and member of the Amphion String Quartet, violist Caeli Smith of the Orpheus and Verbier chamber orchestras and cellist Alberto Parrini, member of the American Symphony and frequent cellist with the New York Philharmonic.
The second selection, the “Quartet for Piano, Clarinet, Violin and Cello,” was composed in 1897 by Walter Rabl, a Viennese conductor and teacher who composed very few works and was known mainly as a conductor. Yet this Piano Quartet established his status as a composer by winning first prize at a chamber music competition whose chief judge was Johannes Brahms.
Joining Hyun and Parrini are clarinetist Alan R Kay from the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and Marcantonio Barone, prizewinning pianist and Steinway…

ChangeHampton hosted an educational event at the Community Pollinator Garden at East Hampton Town Hall.
Scott and Megan Chaskey delivered readings while new plant ID signs were placed in the garden.
The gathering celebrated the naming conventions of trees and plants, incorporating English, Latin Botanical and Shinnecock Algonquian names.
Attendees enjoyed artwork, stories and poems created by East Hampton students, while the Latin class presented an audio project on Latin pronunciations.
Sunshine Gumbs from the Shinnecock Nation shared ethno-botanical research, resurrecting Algonquian names for local native plants.

Jul. 7—NANTICOKE — Sitting in his office overlooking the Luzerne County Community College campus, new President John Yudichak recalled a conversation he had with his father nearly 50 years ago.
Yudichak, 54, began his tenure as LCCC’s eighth President on July 1, taking the helm of the largest and most accessible institution of higher education in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
“We were sitting on our front porch in Plymouth Township,” Yudichak said, talking about his father, Joe Yudichak. “I noticed a building being built across the river — it was LCCC.”
Yudichak noted the structure was going up in the middle of otherwise barren land, and he was surprised to learn that it was a community college under construction.
“I knew, even at that young age, that some major change was coming to the area,” Yudichak said. “I remember that I thought how great it would be to someday work there or in higher education somewhere.”
Yudichak would go on to become a state lawmaker for 24 years — 12 in the House of representatives and 12 more in the state Senate.
During that time, Yudichak compiled an extensive record of leadership, business and educational experience which, along with his knowledge of the needs of the area, he feels all will help LCCC continue its mission of providing a high-quality education to the community.
Yudichak’s journey began on Kosciusko Street at Greater Nanticoke Area High School, then to Penn State University and on to Harrisburg and the state legislature, eventually returning him just up Kosciusko Street to LCCC.
“I’m just getting acclimated, but I do know we have a great staff and faculty here,” Yudichak said. “My plan is to meet them all, and I look forward to working with them to keep LCCC moving forward.”
Yudichak said LCCC will always be “affordable and accessible” and it will continue to offer…
