Mohegan, a leader in developing integrated entertainment resorts worldwide, today announced, subject to all regulatory approvals, that Joseph J. Hasson has been named Chief Operating Officer (COO), overseeing the development and execution of short and long-term strategic business plans across all Mohegan properties. Hasson has served as Mohegan’s interim COO since April of this year.

As Mohegan’s COO, Hasson will oversee the day-to-day operations of Mohegan’s resorts across the United States, Canada and Northern Asia. He will also maintain his responsibilities as General Manager of Mohegan Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas while the casino transitions ownership. Mr. Hasson will report to Ray Pineault, Mohegan’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

As COO, Hasson will continue to enhance operational efficiency and guest satisfaction while maintaining the high service standards that define Mohegan. He will also work with Mohegan’s leadership team to align all strategic processes with company-wide goals, emphasizing the sustainable growth of Mohegan’s portfolio of entertainment resorts.

Prior to joining Mohegan, Hasson served as COO of Station Casinos LLC and Red Rock Resorts, Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Rider University, NJ.

DELAWARE STATE – While Delaware is known today by its European-given name, the land holds a rich history that predates colonization. The Native American inhabitants, primarily the Lenape people, had their own name for the region that reflects their deep connection to the land and its resources.

The Land of the Lenape: Delaware’s Indigenous Roots

The Lenape people, also known as the Delaware Indians, referred to their ancestral territory as Lenapehoking, meaning “the land of the Lenape” or “where the Lenape live.” This expansive territory encompassed present-day New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware, and parts of New York. It was a land rich in natural resources, with abundant forests, rivers, and fertile soil, providing sustenance and livelihood for the Lenape people for centuries.

Scheyichbi: The Delaware River

The Delaware River, a defining geographical feature of the region, held particular significance for the Lenape people. They called it the “Lenapewihittuck,” meaning “the river of the Lenape.” However, the river was also known as the “Scheyichbi,” meaning “the mainstream” or “the mother of waters.” This name reflects the river’s central role in the Lenape’s way of life, providing transportation, food, and water.

Other Place Names

Beyond Lenapehoking and Scheyichbi, the Lenape people had specific names for various locations within present-day Delaware. For example, the area around present-day Wilmington was called “Hopohacking,” meaning “place of the wild potato.” Other Lenape place names still resonate in the state’s geography, including the Christina River (“Susquehanna”) and the Brandywine River (“Wawaset”).

A Legacy of Language and Culture

While the names Lenapehoking and Scheyichbi may not be widely used today, they serve as a reminder of the Lenape people’s deep connection to the land…

Third Quarter 2024 and Recent Highlights:

Mohegan achieved its highest quarterly net revenues in our history, up 21.4% year over year.
Mohegan Digital net revenues up 151.3% year over year.
INSPIRE generated net revenues of $101.1 million since opening.

Distinguished participants,

I am honored to participate on behalf of the United Nations in this conference, marking the Islamic Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. I applaud the efforts of the al-Hakim Foundation, and specifically those of His Eminence Sayyid al-Hakim, for convening this yearly event.

Allow me to start by commending the efforts of the Government for its commitment to combatting violence against women and supporting Iraqi women in general. I welcome the address of the Prime Minister to the High Council for Women Affairs on 25 July urging government entities to expedite the implementation of decisions concerning women.

I also welcome the role of the High Council in engaging with the Parliamentary Committee for Women, Family and Childhood as a positive example of how the expertise and experience of Iraqi women can inform the country’s legislative agenda, including the proposed amendments to the Personal Status Law. I urge political leaders to ensure that any proposed legislation protects the rights of women and children, in line with Iraq’s international human rights commitments.

Also with regard to legislation, I urge the Council of Representatives to adopt the long awaited law against domestic violence. I wish to highlight in particular the importance of the establishment of shelters for persons at risk of such violence. We need to support the survivors, often forced to suffer in silence, and bring to justice the perpetrators. The law should also deter potential offenders, ultimately contributing to a safer family environment. Let’s not forget, not only women,…

Doylestown Township is expanding its popular bike and hike trail network with a new mile-long section linking Burpee Road to 202.

Doylestown Township is expanding its popular bike and hike trail network with a new mile-long section linking Burpee Road and Business Route 202 to existing trails near Doylestown Hospital, writes Ed Doyle for TAPinto Doylestown.

The latest addition, expected to be completed by late fall, connects residential areas to key locations like Delaware Valley College, Doyle Elementary, and Lenape Middle School.

To enhance safety, new stop signs with flashing lights have been installed at the intersection of North Shady Retreat Road and Limekiln Road, where the trail crosses.

This initiative, vetted by PennDOT and funded by state grants, aims to protect pedestrians and cyclists from traffic hazards.

Township Manager Stephanie Mason highlighted the trail’s growing popularity, noting its appeal to residents and newcomers seeking walkable communities.
