Caitlin Clark’s final game of rookie campaign marks another WNBA milestone

Caitlin Clark closed the chapter on her rookie campaign with more personal records and another viewership milestone for the WNBA.

Clark became the first rookie in playoff history with at least 25 points, five rebounds and five assists in a single game, but it was not enough for the Indiana Fever to pull off a victory in Game 2 of their first round series against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night.

Despite the outcome, the game set a new milestone for women’s basketball in a year that was nothing short of historic.

According to ESPN Press Room, Game 2 marked the most-viewed WNBA game ever aired on cable – both regular season and playoffs. An average of 2.54 million viewers tuned in, a significant increase from the previous record set in Game 1 with an average of 1.8 million viewers that peaked at 2.2 million.

Several Northern Oklahoma tribes awarded domestic violence assistance grants

The Grants to Indian Tribal Governments Program allocated funding to tribes to decrease domestic violence incidents within the reservation and to provide support to tribes exercising sovereign authority over these crimes and the perpetrators.

The Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma received the largest amount under this fund, totaling at $1,169,642. Following that was the Eastern Shawnee Tribe at $793,463; the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma at $792,148; the Quapaw Nation at $600,000 and the Delaware Tribe of Indians at $282,632.

In addition to this, the 2024 Office for Victims of Crime Tribal Victim Services Program awarded funds to support victims’ needs through traditional and cultural services as identified by the tribes.

The Eastern Shawnee Tribe, the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, and the Osage Nation each received $441,989. The Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma also received $394,653; the Seneca Cayuga Tribe $254,413 and the Shawnee Tribe $229,973 respectively.

According to the DOJ, four out of five Native people have been or will be the victim of domestic violence in their lifetime.

A 2023 report from the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office shows Oklahoma has seen a steady increase in intimate partner related offenses and homicide. In the past four years, there have been over 100 victims of domestic violence related murders.

Oklahoma currently ranks third in the nation for intimate partner homicide, and number one for domestic violence offenses.

Football Game Preview: Pittston Patriots vs. Crestwood Comets

Suggested Video

The Pittston Patriots will challenge the Crestwood Comets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Crestwood is facing Pittston at the wrong time: Pittston suffered their first home loss of the season on Friday and they’re likely out for redemption. They took a 30-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mountaineers.

Meanwhile, while Crestwood put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can’t be said for Greater Nanticoke Area. Crestwood claimed a resounding 55-0 win over Greater Nanticoke Area on the road. The high-scoring effort was just what the Comets needed considering they were shutout in their previous game.

Crestwood’s win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dylan Gensil, who rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown. Emmett Seyer was in the mix as well, providing Crestwood with a touchdown.

Pittston now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Crestwood, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 2-3.

Pittston beat Crestwood 28-21 in their previous meeting back in October of 2021. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Crestwood’s Noah Schultz, who rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 62 yards and a touchdown on perfect 7-for-7 passing. Now that he won’t be playing on Friday, will it be easier for Pittston to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.

‘A way to stall us’: Students express frustration at College’s insufficient support for Indigenous communities

Williams’ 1737 deed claimed land that was already home to the Mohicans. (Photo courtesy of Special Collections.)

The father of Williams College’s founder, Ephraim Williams Sr., played a direct role in the displacement of the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe from the Town. Documented in a 1737 deed, Williams Sr. claimed land that was already the home to Mohicans.

In interviews with the Record, however, multiple students said that the College has been slow to enact recommendations proposed by a variety of working groups seeking to improve the College’s relations with Indigenous people.

“There isn’t a question about what the campus should be doing — it’s already outlined,” said Daisy Rosalez ’25, a leader for the Native American Indigenous Students Alliance (NISA).

In 2021, the College’s Committee on Diversity and Community published a report entitled “Recommendations for Reckoning with Our Institutional Histories.” The recommendations were meant to “to better represent and reckon with the College’s histories, and where needed, repair relationships with community members.”

One of the recommendations, “to create a committee, or committees, which directly address particular problematic histories; for instance, having a committee that reckons specifically with Indigenous displacement,” led to the creation of the Native American and Indigenous Working Group. The College also published an official land acknowledgment, per another one of the committee’s recommendations.

Later that year, Mirabai Dyson ’24, Gwyn Chilcoat ’24, Hikaru Hayakawa ’24, and Jayden Jogwe ’25 drafted a list of recommendations in their independent study that called upon the College to provide reparations to the Mohican Nation and create free housing for members of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. The Native American and Indigenous Working group has since added to the students’ list of recommendations.

“Nothing has happened,” Jogwe said. “[The College] created the working group…

Mohican Women’s Outdoor Adventure deemed a success

EDITOR’S NOTE: This story was first published at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources website.

LOUDONVILLE – More than 100 women from across the state gathered at Mohican State Park Lodge & Conference Center last month for the 10th annual Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure, hosted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

The event provided participants an exciting chance to explore outdoor skills, including boating, fishing, shooting sports, and nature programming.

The weekend, tailored for women aged 16 and older, the Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure creates a welcoming, pressure-free environment to embrace new activities.

From kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding to archery and sustainable living, participants expanded their skills while enjoying the natural beauty of one of Ohio’s most beloved state parks.

“We look forward to hosting this event every year because it is a fantastic opportunity for women to enjoy the outdoors and everything Ohio has to offer,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz.

“The women that spend the weekend with our staff make long-lasting memories and may experience something they’ve never done before.”

Hosted by ODNR’s Division of Parks and Watercraft with support from experts across the divisions of Forestry, Natural Areas and Preserves, Wildlife, and Geological Survey, the event featured hands-on sessions in fishing, hiking, shotgun and rifle basics, stream quality monitoring, wild edibles, and more.

Participants also enjoyed a special dinner at nearby Malabar Farm State Park, immersing themselves in Ohio’s rich outdoor heritage.

You can download video from the weekend as well as interviews by clicking here.

As the Ohio Women’s Outdoor Adventure grows in popularity, next year’s event is expected to fill up fast.

Keep an eye out for registration details, and don’t miss out on next year’s adventure.

Iowa Legend Caitlin Clark Gets Bold Praise from LeBron James

Former Iowa Hawkeyes’ superstar Caitlin Clark just finished out her rookie season in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever. While they ended up making the playoffs, they were bounced out of the first round by the Connecticut Sun.

Despite losing in the first round, the future is extremely bright for Clark and the Fever.

Recently, NBA superstar LeBron James came out and shared some bold praise about Clark. She has received a lot of praise from NBA stars throughout her rookie WNBA season.

Speaking to Esquire, James shared quite a few thoughts about Clark and made it clear that he has a lot of respect for what she’s doing.

“I have a great deal of respect for Caitlin Clark because I know exactly what it means to be drafted, be the face of a franchise, and also get the scrutiny from a lot of people that don’t believe you’re ready for the next jump, don’t believe you’re ready for the big leagues, and just don’t think that you belong. And I remember that when I came into the league at eighteen years old, how many people doubted me and hoped and prayed that I’d fail.”

Those are some big words coming from a player of the caliber of James.

Clark has completely changed the outlook for women’s basketball. She has brought all-time high viewership to the WNBA and has become a global player.

As a rookie, Clark ended up playing in 40 games. She averaged 19.2 points per game to go along with 8.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. In addition to those averages, she shot 41.7 percent from the floor and 34.4 percent from the three-point line.

It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for Clark. She already looks the part of a WNBA superstar.

More than likely,…
