Top seed: Hanover Area junior Claire Gyle (23-6) returns to the postseason after an injury cut her sophomore year short. The Hawkeye has success against District 2 competition as all seven of her losses came against out-of-district competition. Two of her losses were because of injury. She’s also the WVC champion at 100 pounds.

Others to watch: Wallenpaupack’s Sophia Yancewicz (16-8) is one to watch as she’s the reigning District 2 champ at 106 pounds. In a head-to-head matchup this year, Gyle pinned the Buckhorn in the first period. Yancewicz also lost to Western Wayne’s Myla Smith (7-9), who is the No. 4 seed in the bracket. Nanticoke Area’s Matilda Serrano (15-8) drew the No. 3 seed, but lost twice to No. 5 seed Gia Yannone of Berwick. But in the last meeting between the WVC opponents, Serrano pinned Yannone in 45 seconds at the Valley West Tournament.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The head of the United Nations mission in Iraq on Saturday lauded Baghdad’s push to establish security and stability, build state institutions, and diversify the economy, especially through the Development Road transit corridor, but said this progress must be built on equality.

“Iraq and the Middle East region are going through a critical juncture marked by significant geopolitical changes,” Mohamed al-Hassan, who leads the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), said in a speech at the seventh edition of the Baghdad International Dialogue.

He commended “Iraq’s determination to advance the foundations of security and stability and in building a state of institutions,” but said it “must be based on equality and justice for all citizens of our nation, regardless of their affinities.”

Hassan also praised Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani’s efforts to “diversify the economy and sources of income,” highlighting the Development Road Project as “the most significant” initiative from Baghdad. He noted that the project “will usher in an era of prosperity and well-being for both Iraq and the region.”

Earlier in the event, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani expressed Erbil’s “complete support” for the Development Road project, calling it a “historic step toward a stable and more prosperous Iraq.”

Barzani said that “in the Kurdistan Region, we believe that a politically and economically stable Iraq is a national interest.”

The Development Road is a multi-billion dollar transit project designed to link the Persian Gulf to Europe, stretching from Iraq’s al-Faw port north to the Turkish border at Fishkhabur. The project aims to enhance Iraq’s geopolitical position, stimulate economic growth, and create thousands of jobs. However, the project bypasses the Kurdistan Region, a move Kurdish officials have repeatedly criticized.

NANTICOKE — It started out as a recruiting tool.

When Emily Kivler set up her Instagram page, “keystone_ba,” the Nanticoke Area freshman wanted to use the social media platform to showcase her skills and highlight some of the accomplishments of the Trojanettes wrestling program.

With close to 35,000 followers in probably a six-month span, the viewers of her page will follow along on her next stop, the District 2 Girls’ Wrestling Championships, which begin Friday at Wilkes-Barre Area.

Kivler is one of the top freshmen wrestlers in the state. She has 29 wins with 22 of them coming via fall. She’s three victories behind Montgomery senior Emily Murphy (32-0) for the most wins in the state.

“This is my fifth year, and it’s kind of surprising the immediate results I’ve achieved,” said Kivler, who will wrestle at 112 pounds in the postseason after spending most of the year at 118. “I’ve been able to win some awards at the tournaments, and was able to hang with some of the best girls in the state. In a way, it’s shocking to me, but everything has seemed to flow more together for me.”

Watch her on the mat. She’s high-octane, high-energy and constant motion where there is no wasted seconds in any period. The freshman is looking to score and light up the scoreboard quite often.

Watch her off the mat. Kivler is a true ambassador to the sport. She’s always mat-side encouraging teammates, while mingling with wrestlers from opposing schools.

That’s why her social media has grown so quickly.

The Rock group behind the hits “I Stay Away,” “No Excuses,” “Them Bones,” and “Man in the Box,” Alice in Chains will play a show at Mohegan Sun Arena on Thursday, May 8th. The extraordinary live performance kicks off at 8:00pm.

Tickets to see the famed ‘90s band live in concert go on sale Friday, February 21st at 10:00am via Ticketmaster.com . Rock fans can also purchase tickets at the Mohegan Sun Box Office beginning on Saturday, February 22nd, subject to availability.

Over the course of their remarkable career, seminal Rock band Alice In Chains (vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney, bassist Mike Inez and vocalist/guitarist William DuVall) have garnered multiple Grammy nominations, sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, and amassed a diehard international fanbase whose members number in the millions.

The Union County Board of County Commissioners and the Union County Department of Parks and Recreation are excited to announce the return of Union County’s annual Woodcock Talk and Walk Events to Watchung Reservation and Lenape Park. The events include a special PowerPoint presentation and guided indoor/outdoor experience that will explore the lifestyle and behaviors of this remarkably unique species.

“This event offers a wonderful opportunity for our community to mark the first signs of spring together, learn more about this curious little bird, and understand the significance of protecting our natural open spaces,” said Union County Commissioner Chairwoman Lourdes Leon. “Join us as we discuss the American Woodcock and the importance of working together to preserve and protect our local ecosystems. By doing so, we’ll ensure that this unique species can continue to call Union County their home for years to come.”

The first Woodcock Talk & Walk event of the season will take place on Tuesday, March 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Masker’s Barn, located within the Deserted Village of the Watchung Reservation, 13 Cataract Hollow Road in Berkeley Heights. A second event will be held on Thursday, March 20th, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Lenape Park, located at 130 Kenilworth Boulevard in Cranford.

The free events provide seasoned bird lovers and beginners alike the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the American Woodcock and learn more about the elusive species. Also known as the Timberdoodle, Labrador Twister, Night Partridge, mudbat or bog sucker, the American Woodcock has several distinct features. Aside from its rotund, orange-fluff belly, long bill, and short legs, the Woodcock is also recognized for its preference for damp, dense woodlands and can usually be found probing moist soil for earthworms or insects.
