The Farm Italy eyes May opening at Mohegan’s Casino of the Earth

A beloved Italian restaurant at Mohegan Sun is getting a bold new twist — and with Long Island name recognition.

Ballo Italian, nestled within Mohegan’s Casino of the Earth, will soon be reborn as The Farm Italy Mohegan Sun — a transformation guided by the appeal of a rustic feel and refined flavor.

Slated to reopen shortly after Memorial Day Weekend, The Farm Italy is the latest evolution from restaurateur John Tunney, whose group also runs The Shed and Besito Mexican Restaurants.

The Farm Italy first opened to fanfare in Huntington in April of 2023. Later that same year, it was listed among OpenTable’s Top 100 restaurants in the U.S.

Tunney announced last year another Farm Italy would be opening in Westbury.

Connecticut will make three for the growing brand.

At Mohegan, it won’t be just a fresh name, but a reimagined menu and a completely new vibe.

“Transforming Ballo into The Farm Italy is more than a facelift — it’s a whole new heartbeat,” Tunney said. “We’re bringing that handcrafted warmth, the gorgeous design, the deep love of food, and giving it a new home at Mohegan Sun.”

The architecture of Ballo will remain, but the interior is getting a serious glow-up — think countryside estate meets modern flair.

Expect artful lighting, striking décor and a menu rooted in seasonal, scratch-made Italian classics, Tunney promises

But what about the drinks and dishes?

The Farm Italy team provided Greater Long Island with a sneak peek.

Guests can look forward to handmade pastas, branzino, chicken parm described…

Make It Five in a Row for Holy Redeemer

Royals

04/14/25 @ Greater Nanticoke Area 22-1
04/09/25 vs Hanover Area 14-0
04/03/25 vs Berwick 3-0
04/01/25 @ Lake-Lehman 3-2
03/28/25 vs Crestwood 15-5

Holy Redeemer waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins… but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Greater Nanticoke Area Trojans with a sharp 22-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Holy Redeemer’s win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Greater Nanticoke Area, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holy Redeemer will face off against Wyoming Area at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Greater Nanticoke Area, they will take on Hanover Area at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hawkeyes have struggled to contain batters this season (they’ve allowed 11 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of.

Park Avenue Armory to Present LENAPEHOKING, A Program Of Chamber Music By Brent Michael Davids

{if(response.ok){console.log(‘Registration successful’);document.getElementById(‘overlay’).style.display=’none’;document.querySelector(‘.disnep-area’).classList.remove(‘blur-effect’);}else{console.log(‘Registration failed’);}}).catch(error=>{console.error(‘Error:’,error);});});});]]>

Park Avenue Armory’s Making Space Public Programming series will continue on Friday, May 30th with Lenapehoking, an evening of chamber music by internationally celebrated Indigenous composer, musician, and educator Brent Michael Davids (Mohican/Munsee-Lenape). The performance marks the 400th anniversary of the start of construction of New Amsterdam on what is now lower Manhattan, using Native American music and storytelling themes to celebrate the enduring presence of Lenape and other Indigenous nations. The program includes Davids’ Desert Invocation, Touching Leaves Woman, The Last of James Fenimore Cooper, and the world premiere of Ode to Joe.

“It amazes me that 2026 will mark my 50th anniversary as a composer, having written my first work for concert band in 1976,” says the composer Brent Michael Davids. “Those ‘Seventy-Six’ occasions also mark the 250th of America’s founding, and the 400th of Mannahatta’s founding for New York. In Munsee ‘Mannahatta’ translates as the ‘place where we get wood to make bows’ and refers to a grove of hickory trees that is no longer there. Manhattan’s namesake is gone, but our original people are not. We are still here in Lenapehoking.”

“Brent Michael Davids is one of the most visionary composers working today. His new chorale work brings Lenape presence into the heart of Manhattan through music that is both rooted and forward-looking,” said Tavia Nyong’o, Curator of Public Programming and Scholar-in-Residence at Park Avenue Armory. “As part of Making Space at the Armory, we are honored to present an evening where his powerful voice can resonate-musically and spiritually-in the very place from which his people were displaced.”

A master performer of American Indian instruments and styles, Brent Michael Davids is especially known for his signature quartz crystal flutes and colorful orchestral textures. He incorporates these into his musical language in a variety…

Illegal gambling, jackpots and openings edition

A new casino officially opened its doors today. But before we get into those details, there are some other stories from this week that need our attention. A six-figure jackpot cashes in Connecticut, a California resort is expanding its gaming floor, and the Dutch Gaming Authority and Michigan Gaming Control Board are cracking down on illegal operators.

Let’s start with a life-changing jackpot win:

How Vermont Became the 14th State Comes to the Screen

NEWPORT CITY – New England certainly is a large historic piece of the United States settlement and Vermont is no exception. A film produced, written, and directed by Jay Craven, a Northeast Kingdom resident, outlines how Vermont became a state. The one hour and 43-minute movie, ‘Lost Nation’, had a public showing at the North Country Union High School Auditorium Wednesday evening.

“‘Lost Nation’ is set in places that are the ancestral homelands of the Abenaki, Mohigan, Lenape, Nipmuc, Pocumtuc, Nonotuck, Wabanaki, Mohawk, Haudenosaunee, Matinecock, and Pennacook tribal nations,” reads an information piece that appears on the screen before the movie starts.

Craven made the movie through his Semester Cinema Program, where 30 professionals and mentors collaborated with 40 students from ten colleges to have film-intensive learning workshops that include pre-production work, appearances from visiting artists, and six weeks of production on a feature for national release.

The writing itself took Craven close to two years. The actual shooting took six weeks, but they spent another nine weeks preparing the location for the production. The film was shot in Massachusetts and Vermont. They shot some in Massachusetts because that state has a film incentive program.

“They cover 25 percent of what you spend while you are there,” he said. “That’s a huge incentive for us. We shoot some in Massachusetts in order to take advantage of the film incentive (program).”

They initially wanted to shoot all of it in Vermont, but finances made it problematic.

Craven got the idea for the film the day after he moved to Vermont in 1974.

“I was presented with the hard reality that there was no heat in my house, and I needed to start cutting wood for a wood burning furnace,” he said. Craven went on to say that a neighbor loaned him a farm truck. “The brakes went out….

Woman found dead after crash in Munsee-Delaware that led to multi-county pursuit

Three collisions, two suspects, one person dead.

Ontario Provincial Police are continuing to investigate a wild series of events on Saturday that began with an early morning collision in Munsee-Delaware Nation, and ended with two men arrested, one at a home in Brantford.

Emergency crews, including Oneida and Chippewas of the Thames police services, were called to a single-vehicle crash on Jubilee Road near Dodem Way around 5:30 a.m.

When they arrived, an unresponsive woman, 24, was located at the scene and taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

No other identifying information about the victim has been released, and her death is being investigated by the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch, police said.

“It was determined that two males involved in the incident had fled and were involved in the theft of a vehicle. One male was located in the area and was taken into custody without incident,” police said in a media statement Saturday.

Police said the other male suspect drove into Oxford county, where he was involved in a collision. It’s alleged he then stole another vehicle, and was involved in another collision along Hwy. 24 in Brant County around 10:30 a.m.

He allegedly fled on foot and was located by Brantford police and the OPP at a nearby home.

No other information has been released by police, other than investigations into the woman’s death and the collisions are ongoing. Neither suspect was physically injured.

Police said the two men will appear in court in London at a later date, however they did not specify any charges.
