There’s no place like home for Wilkes-Barre, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past the Hazleton Area Cougars 6-2 on Tuesday. Johnny Mendola was a massive factor in the win as he booted in five goals all by himself.

Wilkes-Barre is on a roll lately: they’ve won five of their last six matches. That’s provided a massive bump to their 9-5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 27 goals over those six matchups. As for Hazleton Area, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8-2.

Wilkes-Barre and Hazleton Area could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Wolfpack will square off against Lake-Lehman at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (155 vs. 46). Meanwhile, Hazleton Area (ranked 395th) will meet Dallas (ranked 100th) at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.

Inaugural Homelands PowWow returns Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican celebration to tribal lands

Hugh Kane/The Williams Record

The Homelands PowWow, hosted this weekend at the Darrow School in New Lebanon, N.Y., marked the first powwow hosted by members of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Tribe on their ancestral lands since their forceful expulsion in the late 18th century

Saturday’s main event was Grand Entry, a procession of community leaders,  dancers, and veterans of any service into a central circle where the majority of the powwow’s events took place. Directed by emcees from the Stockbridge-Munsee Reservation in Wisconsin and accompanied by Rez Dogs, a drumming group from Indian Island, Maine, participants processed into the circle, marking the high point of the day.

According to its website, this year’s Homelands PowWow was intentionally small so as to foster relationships and community that will grow the event into a sustained, annual tradition that celebrates the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohicans. “Our mission is to honor and reconnect the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican people with their ancestral lands,” the website reads. “Through the annual organization of this PowWow, we raise funds to support travel and lodging for tribal members who wish to return to these sacred homelands. Rooted in tradition, community, and cultural resilience, our work helps ensure that the connection between the Mohican people and their lands endures for generations to come.”

Shawn Stevens, who is the chairman of the Homelands PowWow Committee and a registered member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans, traveled from Wisconsin to put on the event. Stevens spoke with the Record about the inspiration for the powwow. “My older sister Ginger met with another friend of ours, and they said, ‘Hey, it would be great to have a powwow,’ not thinking much about it,” he said. “But, they were very serious about it, and we talked to a lot of local…

‘The Machine’ Returns to NEPA:

Bert Kreischer Brings Permission To Party World Tour to Mohegan Arena

(Wilkes-Barre Township, Pa.) – Known for his larger-than-life personality and outrageous storytelling, comedian Bert Kreischer will bring his Permission To Party World Tour to Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township on Thursday, April 2, 2026, delivering his signature unfiltered comedy to northeastern Pennsylvania audiences.

Kreischer has built a comedy empire defined by outrageous stories, unfiltered humor, and a personality larger than life. The comedian’s career has evolved from being named Rolling Stone’s infamous “Number One Partier in the Nation” to one of the top-grossing stand-up comedians in the world—and a powerhouse entrepreneur, content creator, and entertainment brand. Named by Forbes as “one of the best storytellers of his generation,” Kreischer has parlayed his signature comedy and authenticity into a dynamic media empire. In 2024, he landed the #6 highest-grossing comedy tour worldwide—despite performing only six months out of the year.

He recently wrapped his sixth Netflix special, Lucky, which premiered in Netflix’s Top 10 Most Watched TV Shows in March 2025. Kreischer’s 2023 special Razzle Dazzle drew more than 8.3 million views in its debut week, following the success of previous specials Hey Big Boy, Secret Time, The Machine and Comfortably Dumb. Beyond the stage, he continues to dominate media with his chart-topping podcasts (Bertcast and 2 Bears, 1 Cave with Tom Segura), his viral YouTube cooking series Something’s Burning, and the Fully Loaded Comedy Festival, his live comedy juggernaut.

Kreischer’s antics blur the lines between comedy and chaos. From out-lifting NFL stars to appearing on WWE Raw, he has built a persona that transcends traditional stand-up. He has also expanded into business empires, including with Por Osos Vodka, and expanded entertainment ventures, with his Sony Pictures film The Machine and upcoming Netflix projects Free Bert and…

Bryjak honored for book on Native Americans

Life

Oct 8, 2025

SARANAC LAKE — George J. Bryjak’s book, “A Nation Born, A Homeland Lost: Native Americans And The Revolutionary War Era,” was awarded a Silver Medal in the history category by the Military Writers Society of America.

Bryjak’s reader-friendly work explores the four major wars Native Americans were involved in during the latter half of the 18th century: As France and England battled for control of North America in the French and Indian War, most of the Indians who fight side with the French.

Pontiac’s Rebellion — often called the first American Revolution — is a concerted effort by Native Americans to halt European expansion and safeguard their ancestral homelands.

From Pontiac’s Rebellion to the battles of Lexington and Concord, a shifting political landscape results in most of the Native Americans who fight in the Revolutionary War siding with the British.

The Treaty of Paris and birth of the United States results in Native Americans battling for their sovereignty once more in the Northwest Indian War.

Although many Native American nations were involved in these conflicts, Bryjak focuses on the six nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, the Lenape (Delaware), the Shawnee and the Cherokee.

One of the MWSA reviewers noted this “well-researched book includes maps, pictures and sources. Points of view in the book include the French, the British, the colonists or settlers, and the Native Americans. The extensive descriptions of the various tribes, including their territory, customs, beliefs and leaders, give the reader a Native American perspective that is missing from most other accounts of history in this time period.”

The appendix contains biographical…

Mohican Valley Trail Board reactivated as 501(c)(3) non-profit organization

BRINKHAVEN – The Mohican Valley Trail Board has been officially reactivated after several years of dormancy, marking a new chapter for the organization that helped bring the iconic Bridge of Dreams to life nearly three decades ago.

The board was originally formed in 1996 by a horseman’s group out of Fredericktown, Ohio.

Several members of that group played a leading role in raising the funds to construct the Bridge of Dreams in Brinkhaven, which today stands as the one of the longest covered bridges in Ohio and a central feature of the Mohican Valley Trail.

In recent years, the board became inactive and was eventually deactivated by the Ohio Secretary of State’s office.

However, following meetings with the Marketing Director of the Knox County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Director of the Knox County Park District, efforts were undertaken to restore the board.

The Mohican Valley Trail Board has now been reactivated with the Secretary of State’s office and is once again recognized as an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Officers have been established to lead the renewed board:

• Chuck DeWitt, President
• Christopher Wyant (Brinkhaven mayor), Vice President
• Tami Ruhl (Knox County Public Health Department), Secretary
• Baihley White (Fiscal Officer for Brinkhaven and Brown Township), Treasurer
• Aden Yoder, Maintenance

With renewed leadership and nonprofit status, the Mohican Valley Trail Board is committed to continuing its mission of supporting, promoting, and improving the Mohican Valley Trail and the Bridge of Dreams for the benefit of residents, visitors, and future generations.

To find out more about supporting the trail, whether by donations or volunteer opportunities, please email mohicanvalleytrailboard@gmail.com

Messenger Hanover, Shesgotthejack tops at Pocono – U.S. Trotting News

Wilkes-Barre, PA – Younger horses on their way to bigger purses (and tougher competition) met for $15,500 in a pair of features on Monday afternoon (Oct. 6) at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania. One of the headliners was a pace for distaffs, the other a trot.

Messenger Hanover lowers his mark to 1:54 while taking the top trot at Pocono on Monday. Curtis Salonick photo.

In the trotting feature, the striking gray Bar Hopping sophomore gelding Messenger Hanover, second in his Stallion Series Championship, won for the second consecutive time, here taking a new mark of 1:54 for driver George Napolitano Jr., trainer Ron Burke, and the partnership of Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Jim Simpson, and J&T Silva- Purnel & Libby. Messenger Hanover set fractions of :27.4, :57.1, and 1:24.4 enroute to victory.

Giving good chase from the two-hole and only three parts of a length back at the wire was Lionheart Hanover, the winningest (13) and fastest (1:58.2) trotter at the Pennsylvania fairs this summer, in a good tuneup for his $25,000 divisional PA Fair Sire Stakes Championship next Monday (Oct. 13). That card, with $200,000 in purses for the eight PaFSS sections overall, will be drawn Tuesday, (Oct. 7), when Pocono closes out its racing week with a 1 p.m. start.

The pacing females were headed by the Lazarus N 3-year-old filly Shesgotthejack, who stayed connected with the front group behind pacesetter Bequeath (:27.3, :55.3, 1:23.1) as the field raced in two packs of four from before the half. Shesgotthejack tipped wide in the stretch and caught favored Lily White Hanover, who had come out of the pocket to get the stretch lead, while stopping the clock in 1:52.1. Ridge Warren drove the winner, third…
