3 Key Takeaways From Leïla Lacan’s Month Overseas Away From Connecticut Sun

The Connecticut Sun players remain busy during their offseason, but particularly the trio of stars playing overseas right now. This includes Leïla Lacan, Migna Touré and Haley Peters. The three are continuing to put in the hours to improve and fuel their passion for basketball, but 21-year-old Leïla Lacan has been exceptionally impressive to watch with Basket Landes.

It’s a new month, and Lacan still has several games to go, but let’s take a look at three key takeaways from her performance with Basket Landes in November.

It was never a question of whether or not Lacan would be able to produce jaw-dropping numbers on the court. If anything, this was a given right off the bat. However, there were questions revolving around her ability to keep the momentum high. Her work overseas, particularly this past month, should ease any uncertainty.

Her most productive night came on Nov. 7 when she faced the Chartres. By the end of the night, she had posted 17 points, the team-high, with four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Lacan has not shown signs of regressing after her remarkable rookie season — great news for the Sun as they approach their 2026 campaign.

VIDEO: Smoke forces out residents from nursing home

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Residents were evacuated Sunday night after smoke filled the halls of a Nanticoke nursing home.

28/22 News spoke with Nanticoke Fire Department Chief Mark Boncal, who confirmed crews were called to the Birchwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on the 300 block of Middle Road in Nanticoke in response to a fire alarm at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday.

The Wright Township Fire Department, Kingston Fire Department, and the Nanticoke Police Department also responded to the incident.

After about 50 people were evacuated from the second floor, firefighters found that a belt seized up on the HVAC unit above the second-floor nurses’ station on the roof, according to Fire Chief Boncal.

Fire Chief Boncal says the residents on the first floor sheltered in place until the incident was resolved.

The unit was shut down by fire personnel, but Fire Chief Boncal says the rest of the building is still able to get heat from other units.

There was a light amount of smoke, which crews were able to remove from the building, and residents were allowed to go back in, Fire Chief Boncal explained.

Fire Chief Boncal added that no one was injured from the smoke, crews cleared the scene at just before 7:00 p.m., and there is no further investigation into the incident.

The building’s maintenance was on scene and contacted their HVAC representative to try to make repairs, according to Fire Chief Boncal.

Connecticut Sun Must Improve One Key Metric to be Competitive in 2026

The Connecticut Sun went into somewhat of a rebuild phase throughout the 2025 season, with much of their roster being tailored towards younger players and ensuring they had the opportunity to develop and get accustomed to the WNBA level. With that said, the record they put out is certainly something they will be looking to improve upon in 2026.

With two first-round picks, they are able to make some more additions to the roster that should help out with the depth of the squad. To do so, they will need to analyze what the team needs, and in 2025, it became abundantly clear what the franchise needed heading into their next campaign.

On the bright side, they were one of the better defensive teams in the league throughout the year, which is enormously impressive from a roster that mostly consists of younger talent. Showing that level of tenacity early in their careers will be crucial down the road to building success and competing with some of the best rosters in the league. There is still a long road to get there, though, and one of the key issues was one of the most obvious.

The biggest struggle for the Sun compared to the other teams in the WNBA was their 3-point shooting, as in the year they ended up with only a 30.2% rate on 3-point shots. The only other team within a similar range was the Dallas Wings, who hit…
