Football Recap: Sussex County Tech Piles Up the Points Against Hopatcong

Suggested Video

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sussex County Tech). They really took it to the Hopatcong Chiefs for the full four quarters, racking up a 43-0 victory on the road. Sussex County Tech pushed the score to 36-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Hopatcong had no chance of recovering from.

It was another big night for Brian Gruber, who rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 rushing yards dating back to last season. Gavin Mericle was another major influence, as he rushed for 62 yards and ran in a TD.

He was just one part of a punishing run game: Sussex County Tech was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now rushed for at least 215 rushing yards in three consecutive matches.

Sussex County Tech’s defense made their presence known, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Matthew Wisniewski and Anthony Padalino, who racked up four sacks between them.

Sussex County Tech’s win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Hopatcong, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Sussex County Tech will host Lenape Valley at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sussex County Tech’s defense has only allowed 16.5 points per game this season, so Lenape Valley’s offense will have their work…

Sheryl Swoopes Calls Out Christie Sides’ “Childish” Decision That Cost Indiana Fever The Win vs Sun

Not every story wraps up with a happy ending, but what truly matters is the dedication and determination to prove oneself. And that’s what exactly was visible in Indiana Fever’s run this season despite getting swept by Connecticut Sun in the first round. After all, Christie Sides led battalion at least made their fans happy by making a playoff appearance after an eight-year drought. But could they have even gone further given some smarter calls from the head coach Christie Sides against Sun? If you ask, Sheryl Swoopes, probably ‘yes’.

The WNBA legend, alongside co-host Jordan Robinson, delved into the standout moments from the first round of the playoffs on the latest episode of ‘Queens of the Court’ podcast. However, in the midst of their analysis, Swoopes took a moment to raise eyebrows over a particular decision made by the Fever coach Christie Sides.

“I had just a couple of questions. When I saw all of that and then seeing how NaLyssa (Smith) only played, I think she played eight minutes in game one and like four minutes in game two,” stated Swoopes as the Fever forward saw a minimal playing time against Stephanie White’s Sun. She was not done yet, as the Houston legend continued to ponder what might have driven the coaching decision regarding Smith’s limited minutes.

“I questioned if Christy was like, ‘I’m not going to play you because your girlfriend is on the other team’. If that’s the case, how childish. Because NaLyssa Smith is a ball. Nalyssa Smith could have possibly helped…

UNAMI welcomes start of Kurdistan election campaign, hopes for “peaceful” competition

2024-09-25T10:51:47+00:00

Shafaq News/ The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) expressed its support for the launch of the election campaign for the Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 20, 2024.

According to a statement shared by the UN’s “ReliefWeb” platform, “UNAMI underscores the importance of ensuring a campaign environment free of violence and intimidation, with participants focusing on the peaceful competition of visions and programs, to enable voters to make informed decisions at the ballot box.”

“UNAMI looks to all candidates, other political actors and the media to foster a climate of respect, inclusivity and open dialogue throughout the campaign. It is crucial for the credibility of these elections to establish a safe and welcoming environment for all candidates and voters, particularly women who often face distinct challenges during electoral processes. Any disputes relating to the elections should be addressed through the available mechanisms including those established by IHEC.”

The statement reaffirmed, “UNAMI will continue to support a fair and transparent electoral process that will reflect the aspirations of all people in the Kurdistan Region.”

This announcement follows a statement by the Head of the Electoral Commission, Judge Omar Ahmed Mohammed, who confirmed the official launch of the campaign on Wednesday, September 25, lasting until October 15.

Judge Mohammed noted that 1,190 candidates are running for office, representing 136 electoral lists. He also announced the formation of a special committee by the IHEC to monitor the campaign and address any violations.

Back in June, President Nechirvan Barzani issued a Regional decree setting October 20, 2024, as the official date for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections.

Elections for Kurdistan’s parliament, originally scheduled for 2022, were set for June 10. However, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), which has the parliamentary…

Football Game Preview: Lenape Indians vs. Shawnee Renegades

Suggested Video

Lenape and Shawnee are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2014, but not for long. The Lenape Indians will head out on the road to square off against the Shawnee Renegades at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lenape’s defense has only allowed 17.2 points per game this season, so Shawnee’s offense will have their work cut out for them.

Lenape took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 29-7 margin over Eastside. The victory was some much needed relief for the Indians as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Shawnee lost 42-21 to Rancocas Valley on Saturday. The Renegades have now taken an ‘L’ in back-to-back games.

Lenape’s first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Shawnee, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Lenape came up short against Shawnee in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, falling 27-23. Thankfully for Lenape, Joe Papa (who rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 132 yards and two touchdowns) won’t be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There’s only one way to find out.

Blue Whale Materials Picked For $55 Million DOE Award

Blue Whale Materials (BWM) – a leader in advanced lithium-ion battery recycling – announced it has been selected for negotiation of an award of over $55 million from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains (MESC) under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing Program.

The selection is part of BWM’s larger $110 million expansion initiative, which will enable BWM’s state-of-the-art facility in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to process up to 50,000 tons of battery feedstock annually and produce enough valuable critical minerals to power 100,000+ electric vehicles annually.

These expanded operations will convert 3.5 times more end-of-life batteries and production scrap into Blacksand, a high-purity, dry, mixed-metal precursor that stands apart from the conventional black mass. And this state-of-the-art process recovers up to 98% of the cobalt and nickel in lithium-ion batteries and production scrap. It significantly reduces contaminants such as aluminum, copper, and fluorine, leading to a high metal recovery rate and creating an optimized input for downstream metal refiners and battery material manufacturers.

BWM is a portfolio company of Ara Partners, which is a global private equity firm that is decarbonizing the industrial economy. And by scaling up operations, BWM will further establish itself as a leading supplier of critical minerals for electric vehicle manufacturers, battery producers, and energy storage companies. The expansion is another meaningful step toward creating a closed loop and sustainable feedstock solutions for spent lithium-ion batteries.

The expansion is expected to create 150 permanent jobs and 180 construction jobs, increasing local employment in Bartlesville and contributing to the state’s sustainable growth.

About $3 million of the grant would go towards workforce development and community outreach through expanded partnership programs with the Delaware Tribe of Indians, Blue Star Recyclers, Tri-County Tech, and James Emmett and Company.
