Frédéric Farrucci • Director de Le Mohican

02/09/2024 – VENECIA 2024: El director francés habla sobre el género como el caballo de Troya de una historia narrada con ritmo militar sobre la época y la sociedad actuales, una isla y el ser humano en general

Cineuropa: Where did the desire to make this film in Corsica come from?
Frédéric Farrucci: In 2017, I directed a documentary about a shepherd on the South coast of Corsica that was meant to evoke his profession and his family history. But these questions were expelled little by little and the discussion turned to an anxiety that wouldn’t leave him: his goats would pass through this place where all these things that make tourism buzz could be built. He was afraid and he’d say that he was “the last of the Mohicans” because he wouldn’t be able to pass on the farm to his sons, that it would be a poisoned chalice. From that reality, I wanted to extrapolate these fears and to stage this situation. I’m Corsican and I also had the desire to go work on that territory that questions and troubles me. The level of real estate speculation is rather high in Corsica and there is a Mafia influence on part of the territory linked in particular to the coast and to tourism.

This is also a genre film.
I’ve always seen Corsica as a land of the Western. First,…

Perkasie Borough awards $195K engineering and design contract for restoration of covered bridge

A historic covered bridge in Lenape Park in Perkasie Borough severely damaged in the flooding during Hurricane Ida in 2021 is on the path to return to public service.

Perkasie Borough has selected an engineering firm to oversee the return of its historic 1832 covered bridge to public service in Lenape Park.

On Sept. 3, 2024, Perkasie Borough Council awarded a contract to Wood Research and Development LLC, of Jefferson, Oregon and Jacksonville, Florida, for engineering and design consultation services for the rehabilitation of the South Perkasie Borough Covered Timber Bridge.

The contract award to Wood Research and Development was for $195,030, and it is fully funded by FEMA and other grants.

The remnants of Hurricane Ida in September 2021 swept the covered bridge off its abutments during historic flooding in Lenape Park. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) along with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) awarded grant funds in June 2023 for repairs to damage caused by the flooding. Prior to Hurricane Ida, the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission and the Perkasie Historical Society contributed funds to a project to rehabilitate the bridge.

    Perkasie Borough

Seven engineering companies made qualified proposals for the task of restoring Bucks County’s oldest covered bridge, during a two-month proposal process. The other companies were from Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Virginia. Perkasie Borough Council’s Historical Committee, with input from Borough management, selected Wood Research and Development using judging criteria required by FEMA. Borough Council unanimously approved the selection.

“We were fortunate to have some of the best firms in the country interested in the project, because of the South Perkasie Covered Bridge’s unique status,” said Scott Bomboy, chair of the Council’s Historical Committee. “It is the third-oldest Town Lattice style covered bridge in the United States and a special example of an original…

17-year-old dies after Nanticoke shooting, incident under investigation

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Minden Court in the Honey Pot section of Nanticoke looks different than it did Sunday following the shooting of a teen.

According to our newsgathering partners at the Times Leader, police responded a little after 3:30 p.m. where a 17-year-old was found with a gunshot wound.

Police identified the deceased teenager as Hunter Sipple, 17. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

A friend of the victim was celebrating the holiday weekend when the news broke on social media.

“I was scrolling through my Facebook, and I saw about a 17-year-old male in the Honey Pot section, and I was shocked. I just couldn’t believe it, the first thing I thought was wow, is that someone I know in my area,” says Haylee, a friend of the victim.

Monday afternoon, Nanticoke Police Chief Michael Roke confirmed with a media outlet that the victim had died, although FOX56 has not independently confirmed this.

“It is so hard to understand how something that crazy could happen, how easy it seems for people just to get their hands on firearms, and it is especially not good with children because they just don’t understand how dangerous it is,” Haylee explained.

Haylee says she will remember the victim as a loving, selfless person.

“He was just a loving kid he would shovel for you; he would go out of his way and give you the shirt off his back. He loved his mother, his brother, and his family and they’re really in my thoughts right now,” Haylee says.

Haylee encourages the community to come together to support the victim’s family as they navigate new waters.

“We all need to get together and support the family in any way we can. I can’t imagine losing a son or daughter at such a young age,” Haylee said.

According to Nanticoke police officers, the…

Tahar Boumedra Exposes UN Efforts to Silence Him on Human Rights Abuses in Ashraf

Tahar Boumedra, President of the Justice for Victims of the 1988 Massacre in Iran (JVMI) spoke passionately at the Iranian Resistance conference about his experiences witnessing human rights abuses in Iraq, particularly against residents of Ashraf.

Drawing on his time with the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Boumedra recounted his unrestricted access to Camp Ashraf and the harrowing abuses he witnessed there. He described his role as often being reduced to counting the bodies of victims, a grim duty that eventually led to his resignation from the UN in protest. Boumedra also detailed his defiance against attempts by the UN Legal Affairs Department to silence him, underscoring his commitment to speaking out against injustices.

Boumedra praised Professor Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, for his courage and impartiality in documenting human rights violations. He emphasized that Rehman’s work is widely appreciated and assured him of global support from advocates of peace and justice.

In closing, Boumedra reaffirmed his dedication to exposing human rights abuses and standing in solidarity with the Iranian people and the Iranian Resistance.

The full text of Tahar Boumedra’s speech follows:

Thank you. Thank you very much, brothers and sisters in Ashraf 3. I salute you warmly. Let me say that I thank very much the speakers who took the floor before me, and I’m not going to repeat the legal issues that they addressed.

I’m just going to share with you probably what I would call a testimony, reporting to you exactly my experience in a very short way because I hope that Professor Javaid Rehman will benefit from what I went through…

Teen Bicycle Accidents in Union County

Cranford, NJ – Teen Cyclist Seriously Injured in Cranford Collision Near Lenape ParkTeenage cyclists are particularly vulnerable on roadways, especially in suburban neighborhoods like Cranford, where cars and bicycles often share the roads. Cranford’s proximity to Lenape Park makes it a popular spot for local cyclists, but with increased traffic and narrow streets, the risk of accidents can be high. Bicycle accidents often lead to severe or life-threatening injuries, given the lack of protection for riders. In this case, the 16-year-old’s hospitalization following the crash underscores the potential dangers cyclists face when involved in vehicle collisions.

While the cause of the accident remains under investigation, it underscores the significance of caution on the road….
