Thomas P. (Tom) Havens

Thomas P. (Tom) Havens, a resident of Brockport, NY, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong Hospital.

Tom was born on May 13, 1944, in Maryland to the late Chester and Kathryn Havens. He spent his early childhood years in New York before moving with his family to the Honey Pot section of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania.

After graduating from Nanticoke High School, Tom earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Mansfield College and a master’s degree in education from SUNY Geneseo. A lifelong history enthusiast, he dedicated his career to educating others and taught a variety of history classes at Attica High School from 1966-1993. During his tenure, Tom served as a class advisor, track and field coach (including coaching the 1971 team that was inducted into the Attica Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021), and wrestling coach, earning the affectionate nickname “TH” from his students.

In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by brother Terrance (Terry) Havens and brothers-in-law Frank Mutrynowski, George Perkins, George Kalweit, and Bernie Panasiewicz.

Tom is survived by his two children, Brian Havens of Batavia, NY, and Jocelyn (Havens) Sikorski, and granddaughters Paige and Peyton Sikorski of Alexander, NY. Additionally, he is survived by his longtime partner, Lynda Morrill of Brockport, her children Lawrence (Larry) Richmond, Lisa Richmond, Raelene Richmond, and Daniel Richmond, along with their grandchildren.

Tom was the second oldest of 13 siblings and is survived by sisters Sandra Mutrynowski (Nanticoke), Patricia Kalweit (Virginia Beach, VA), Kathy Panasiewicz (Larksville), Darla Perkins (Hunlock Creek), Sharon Ostopowicz (Nanticoke), Peggy Ostopowicz (Nanticoke), Debra Havens (Honey Pot), Maureen Honeychurch (Nanticoke), and brothers Mike Havens (Nanticoke), Shawn Havens (Phoenix, AZ), and Kevin Havens (Larksville). He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, whom he cherished.

There will be no calling hours. Family and friends…

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 31, (KUNA): The State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have renewed their call on neighboring Iraq to adhere to the agreement signed with Kuwait in 2012 on regulating the navigation in Khor Abdullah waterway. This came in a joint statement issued after His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah’s visit to the Kingdom on Tuesday and his talks with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and Crown Prince and Prince Minister Mohammad bin Salman Al-Saud. The two sides noted that the Khor Abdullah agreement entered into force on December 5, 2013 after its ratification by both countries and was jointly deposited with the United Nations on December 18, 2013.

They also rejected Iraq’s unilaterally cancelling of the security exchange protocol hammered out between Kuwait and Iraq in 2008 and its endorsed map signed between Kuwait and Iraq on December 28, 2014, which included a clear and specific mechanism for their amendment and cancellation. The two sides reiterated support for the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2107 (2013), which requests the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) to enhance and facilitate search for and determining the fate of missing Kuwaitis and third-country nationals or restoring the framework of the Tripartite Committee and its technical subcommittee, under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross and returning the seized Kuwaiti property, including the national archives.

They urged the UN Security Council to continue following up on these important issues and the UN Secretary General to present regular report on the achieved progress and UNAMI efforts in this regard by paragraph four of the aforementioned…

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 25 saves on 28 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 home loss to the rival Hershey Bears at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

The result dropped Blomqvist’s record to 13-6-3 while forwards Vinnie Hinostroza and Radim Zohorna each scored goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (23-15-5-0). Forward Sam Poulin had a potential game-tying goal waved off with 5.9 seconds left when officials ruled he knocked in an airborne puck with a high stick.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.

Forwards Dillon Hamaliuk and Lukas Svejkovsky each scored two goals for the Wheeling Nailers, who pounded the Reading Royals, 8-2, at Santander Arena in Reading.

The Nailers extended a winning streak to a season-best five games and reached the eight-goal mark for the second consecutive game following an 8-4 road win against the Royals on Friday.

Defenseman Thimo Nickl had a goal and an assist for Wheeling (21-16-1-1) while forwards Cédric Desruisseaux and Tanner Laderoute each contributed two assists.

Goaltender Jaxon Castor made 27 saves on 29 shots and boosted his record to 4-1-0.

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Wednesday, 7:35 p.m.
