Bet Eightthirtyone beats the rainclouds – and feature opponents

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Bet Eightthirtyone (Betting Line) stormed home in the deep Pocono Pike to win the $13,000 harness racing pacing feature on Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 2) at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono in 1:55.1.

The race was conducted as a downpour came through the area; though the rain soon stopped, this would be the last event before the track was rerated from “fast” to “sloppy.”

Bet Eightthirtytwo and driver Marcus Miller (Curtis Salonick Photo)

Marcus Miller got the victorious gelding away third as Mister David C set the pace ahead of favored Stormy Beach, with second choice Letmecallyouback advancing via the always-tough tuck-then-first-over route and Ripplesonthebeach right on his back.

As they turned for home, Stormy Beach ducked to the inside of the pacesetter, but it soon became clear that the horse with the most pace was the one right behind him, as Bet Eightthirtyone gave a sharp burst when shown inside clearance and reached the wire three-quarters of a length ahead of Ripplesonthebeach, the only other horse moving with real velocity late.

BET EIGHTTHIRTYONE REPLAY

Marcus Miller’s father Erv trains the winner, who notched his first success of the season while missing his lifetime best by only a tick for owner D R Van Witzenburg. The gelding is three-for-18 lifetime with $32,584 in earnings.

The sky was sunny, though the track remained sloppy, by the time that No Drama Please (Trixton) accounted for the $12,500 co-featured trot, brushing to the lead in front of the stands and keeping control for a 1:55 victory.

Tom Fanning trains the gelding, now a winner of $396,838, for owner Joseph Smith. For driver George Napolitano Jr., the victory was one of four on the day.

UN mission, Arab League call for end to escalation amid political protests in Iraq

BAGHDAD, July 30 (Xinhua) — The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and Arab League on Saturday called for an end to the escalation in the country during protests against the nomination of Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani for the post of prime minister.

“The ongoing escalation is extremely concerning. Voices of reason and wisdom are critical to prevent further violence,” the UNAMI said on Twitter, encouraging all sides to “de-escalate in the interest of all Iraqis.”

Meanwhile, the Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit also appealed to all Iraqi political forces to work quickly to stop the escalation and start a real and sincere dialogue.

“The Secretary-General stresses that getting things out of control will not be in the interest of Iraq or in the interest of any party,” the Arab League said on Facebook.

On Wednesday, hundreds of followers of Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr broke into the parliament building after the Coordination Framework, an umbrella group of Shiite parliamentary parties, nominated al-Sudani on Monday for the post of prime minister.

Earlier in the day, al-Sadr’s followers entered the Iraqi parliament building again and started an open sit-in in the building.

The Coordination Framework became the largest alliance in the Iraqi parliament after al-Sadr ordered his followers in the Sadrist Movement, the biggest winner in the elections held on Oct. 10, 2021 with 73 seats, to withdraw from the parliament.

During the past months, the continued disputes among the Shiite parties have hampered the formation of a new Iraqi government, as the parliament has been unable to elect a new president by a two-thirds majority of the 329-seat parliament under the constitution.

Nanticoke man charged with shooting school windows

LEHMAN TWP. — A Nanticoke man facing drug driving charges was arraigned Monday afternoon on allegations he shot out windows at Lake Lehman High School last week.

Lehman Township police in court records say they have a cell phone recording of Eugene Robert Paisley, 19, discharging rounds that smashed two windows at the high school on July 26.

An arrest warrant was issued Sunday for Paisley as police earlier Monday released a bulletin stating they were searching for Paisley deeming him “armed and dangerous.”

Paisley was arraigned by District Judge James Haggerty in Kingston on two counts each of discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, institutional vandalism and reckless endangerment and one count each of firearms not to be carried without a license and reckless driving. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $40,000 bail.

Court records say the school’s volleyball coach discovered two windows were shot out when he arrived for practice. The coach reported the broken windows to the school’s assistant principal who then contacted police.

Police said they recovered bullet fragments from the scene.

On the same day of the vandalism at the school, state police at Shickshinny investigated a similar incident at a convenience store in Huntington Mills and state police at Tunkhannock had a suspect in custody for a similar incident near Noxen, Wyoming County.

State police at Tunkhannock served a search warrant at a residence in Plains Township where they recovered a Ruger 9mm handgun, court records say.

Troopers learned from their search of the Plains Township residence that a cell phone had a saved recording of Paisley allegedly firing a handgun out of his vehicle toward Lake Lehman High School. The video is time…

Mays Landing Landmark Named One Of NJ’s Most Instagrammable Spots

It’s true when people point out that most of us rarely look up from our phones anymore. It’s 2022 and social media is a thing. That’s what most of us are doing when you see us with our faces buried in our phones.

One of the most popular social media platforms within the entire Garden State is Instagram. What, did you think I was going to say TikTok? No, believe it or not, even with the rise of the TikTok generation, Facebook and Instagram are still the most popular social media apps in New Jersey.

Since that’s the case, it may not need further explanation if I were to say that the majority of people are always on the hunt for the best aesthetic to post on their Instagram. For those that don’t know what that means, basically, it’s referring to people always being on the lookout for the best-looking places to snap a photo to share. Instagram is, after all, primarily a highlight reel, right? Seldom do you see anybody posting anything negative on their pages.

That’s why the aesthetic is so important. Having a good aesthetic means more people will be favorable disposed to your content.

Long story short, people are always on the hunt for the best possible spots to snap a photo or record a video. Beautiful places that occur in nature are ALWAYS a top tier choice. According to New Jersey Digest, one of the most Instagram-worthy spots in the whole Garden State is right in the heart of Atlantic County. NJ Digest named Lake Lenape as one of the most aesthetically-pleasing places to take a photo you plan to share to Instagram.

Xbox Series X update will bring boot-up speeds closer to PS5 and Nintendo Switch

Xbox Insiders are discovering their consoles’ boot times have drastically improved in the latest build of the program.

The Insider program on Xbox Series X|S gives members the chance to road test new features early before they’re released to the public. And it’s Xbox director of integrated marketing, Josh Munsee himself, who revealed that the latest build has targeted faster boot times (thanks, The Shortcut (opens in new tab)).

Munsee replied to Xbox engineering lead Eden Marie on Twitter (opens in new tab), who had noticed the improvement on their console. He explains that the secret lies in a shorter boot animation that shaves off around five seconds total.

Give it the boot

This update might not seem particularly significant at first glance. Especially if (like me) you tend to leave your Xbox Series X|S in standby mode instead of shutting it down.

I think it’s a very welcome update, though. The boot animation we have right now is a bit too lavish for its own good, and only really impressive when you turn the console on for the very first time.

Both the PS5 and the Nintendo Switch‘s boot times are currently much snappier by comparison. And this smart Xbox update will help the console close the gap in that regard, if only by a few seconds.

It seems that Microsoft has duly noted that most gamers want to access their Xbox dashboards as swiftly as possible. And getting to it five seconds quicker is a better quality-of-life update than you might think.

On the one hand, Xbox’s standby features are excellent time savers. Quick…

Xbox Boot Times Are Being Sped Up By Microsoft

Twitter: @VGChartz

Microsoft is reducing the time it takes for its Xbox consoles to power up.

The cold boot startup time for Xbox Series X/S consoles has been decreased by about 5 seconds in the most recent Xbox Insider test releases of the Xbox dashboard.

Video Courtesy to MEME Lord YT Channel | Xbox Microsoft

Microsoft was able to shorten the bootup animation and speed up the start process.

One of Microsoft’s primary marketing strategies for the most recent console has always been to emphasize the Xbox Series X boot time. But for now, the business wants to improve it. Recently, Xbox testers started noting the quicker boot time. Microsoft didn’t officially acknowledge it until last Friday, though.

The business has improved the boot-up time, according to a tweet posted on Friday by Josh Munsee, director of Xbox integrated marketing. Munsee claims that Microsoft accomplished this by shortening the boot animation. The previous animation lasted about nine seconds, whereas the current one lasts about four.

Microsoft has reduced the animation by about five seconds, which has shortened the Xbox Series X boot time. However, the boot-up was already speedy. Therefore, there isn’t a significant difference in the upgrading between the newer and older Xbox consoles. But if you frequently use your Xbox, you should still be able to tell.

Twitter: @A3rnout

Microsoft acknowledged the modifications on Friday. Recently, Xbox testers noted a quicker bootup speed. The business “developed a shorter boot up animation (4s) from the original boot up animation (9s), helping to lower the overall starting time,” according to Josh Munsee, director of Xbox integrated marketing.

Additionally, the modifications are not just for Xbox Series X or S consoles….
