St. Augustine Prep Hermits vs. Lenape Indians

Suggested Video

The St. Augustine Prep Hermits will head out on the road to face off against the Lenape Indians at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. St. Augustine Prep’s pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Lenape’s hitters will have their work cut out for them.

St. Augustine Prep is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 19 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Holy Ghost Prep on Thursday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Firebirds. The game marked the Hermits’ lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

St. Augustine Prep saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Erace, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, the third road match was the charm for Lenape, as they earned their first away win of the season. Everything went their way against Rancocas Valley on Thursday as they made off with a 14-3 victory. The Indians not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 1, 2024.

Having lost for the first time this season, St. Augustine Prep fell to 8-1. As for Lenape, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-3.

St. Augustine Prep came out on top in a nail-biter against Lenape in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hermits since the team won’t have the home-field advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change in venue makes a difference.

Residents give care home worker a haircut to remember

Residents at a Dorset care home helped a team member raise £2,500 for charity by cutting her hair.

Corinne Wareham, a companion at Colten Care’s Bourne View in Poole, had not had a haircut in a year and decided to use her first chop to raise money for the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) and Hants & Dorset Christian Youth Camps.

Her haircut was not an ordinary one, as residents were given the chance to take part in her charity cut.

Before the cut began, Brett Gill, a gardener at the Langside Avenue home, blew Corinne’s long hair with a leaf blower for the last time.

Corinne’s hair styles during the day included a green and white Mohican. She is pictured with friend Sian Murdoch, left and colleague Jackie Dominey. (Image: Philip Hartley) John Broomfield was the first resident to take part and cut off several inches of her ponytail.

He said: “I was happy to take the first cut and it was like I had a trophy when I held up the lock to show everyone.”

Bourne View’s professional hairdresser, Nicola Guest, oversaw Corinne’s ‘chop for charity’ and styled various looks for her during the day, including an inverted bob and a Mohican sprayed with green and white colouring.

Nicola said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of cutting styles our residents don’t usually ask for.”

Berwick Bulldogs vs. Wyoming Area Warriors

The Berwick Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Wyoming Area Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Berwick put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. They blew past Greater Nanticoke Area 16-2. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Trojans: they’ve now won six in a row.

Makayla Brown made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn’t given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter’s box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Emma Welsh

03/21/25 vs Wilkes-Barre 2

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Welsh, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Klahold, who scored four runs while going 3-for-4.

Berwick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greater Nanticoke Area only managed four hits.

Meanwhile, Wyoming Area waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with four straight wins… but they left with five. They never…

UN urges accountability after Iraqi detainee dies following alleged torture

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) on Tuesday urged Iraqi authorities to investigate the death of Bashir Khalid Lateef in Baghdad, ten days after he was taken into custody amid allegations that he was tortured in detention.

“The Mission is deeply concerned about reports the victim suffered from traumatic injuries during detention and was transferred to hospital where he died on 7 April, 10 days after having been taken into custody and held in a police station first and then in a detention centre,” UNAMI said on X.

Lateef, an engineer, was arrested on March 30 in Baghdad’s al-A’amiriya neighborhood. In a video published on Saturday, the Iraqi interior ministry said that Lateef was filmed “sneaking through a fence” to enter an apartment in a residential complex reportedly belonging to Major General Abbas al-Tamimi. According to the ministry, a fight broke out between Lateef and Tamimi’s sons before police detained him.

The ministry said Lateef was taken to a detention center, where security camera footage purportedly showed him being “severely beaten” by other detainees.

In the statement, UNAMI said it “emphasizes the importance of conducting a fair, transparent, and independent investigation that leads to accountability for those responsible for human rights abuses, and the adoption of measures and procedures to prevent their recurrence.”

Sabah al-Numan, spokesperson for both the Iraqi Joint Operations Command and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, revealed on Monday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani has directed a “high-level investigative committee” to investigate Lateef’s death.

He stressed that the incident “will not pass without holding those responsible accountable and determining the true reasons that led to his death.”

“We affirm that we will not be lenient with anyone who dares to harm Iraqis or act outside the legal framework, disregarding the principles of human rights and dignity,”…
