If you ran into the newest Buffalo Bandit, Ron John, during the week, it’d probably be on a lacrosse field. In fact, the former Ottawa Black Bear was coaching when he learned of the March 10 trade.
John serves as an assistant coach for both Lake Shore High School and the Seneca War Chiefs, a Junior B box lacrosse team. With the latter, he coaches alongside former Bandit Darris Kilgour.
Bandits.com caught up with the Angola, N.Y. native to discuss the trade, his reuniting with close friend Tehoka Nanticoke and playing Fortnite.
How did you learn you’d become a Buffalo Bandit?
It was funny. We were doing preseason practice for high school lacrosse and I was in the middle of practice, so I hadn’t checked my phone. In between the drill, I went to check my watch and I saw that I had missed calls from my GM at Ottawa. I knew it was deadline day, so it couldn’t have been great. So, I waited another drill, got my emotions collected and called him back, and that’s when he said, ‘Hey, this is what’s happening, this is what we wanted, this is how it went down.’ And then he ended the call with, ‘I think you’re going to fit in, and we sent you to Buffalo.’
A big mix of emotions there, so it was pretty crazy to deal with, but I think what made it easy was that I was in the middle of practice. So, I was able to bring everyone in. I talked to them about it. Talked to them about how getting traded away sucks and all that, with all the friends and family you make through the years. I ended it off with them and told them that I was going to Buffalo, and the…

WILKES-BARRE — Cirque du Soleil’s OVO show comes to Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza with five performances between Thursday, April 3, through Sunday, April 6.
An exciting Cirque du Soleil experience, OVO is a colorful intrusion into a new day in the life of insects. This is a non-stop riot of energy and movement through show-stopping acrobatics, as the introduction of a mysterious “ovo” (meaning “egg” in Portuguese) challenges all creatures to reconsider their role within their tiny world.
Cirque du Soleil: OVO uses the whole stage to enhance their storytelling, and every piece of the set is stunning. Everything is colorful, big, and vibrant with Brazilian-inspired music throughout, not to mention all the incredible high-level acrobatics.
“In the beginning is a huge egg and everything else is so small, you really get into the perspective of the show,” said acrobat and dancer Dani Maloney in an interview with The Weekender. “It is such a world of happiness, and you can see it in the audience reactions too”
Dani Maloney is an acrobat and character in the upcoming OVO shows in Wilkes-Barre, she also helps the artistic director with the show’s choreography.
Cirque du Soleil also includes a love story and there is something delightful for all ages to take away. The ladybug is in love with the blue fly character — and the feeling is mutual. “Every time he sees the ladybug, he freezes. It’s a really fun, lighthearted storyline,” explained Dani Maloney.
Hailing from Northwestern Pennsylvania, Dani Maloney joined Cirque du Soleil: OVO in October 2024 as the Red Spider! This multi-talented superstar has been dancing since she was three years old and runs her own contemporary dance collective in Las Vegas called Dani Maloney…

Surveillance video captured from a gas station in Chester County shows the moment a tree came smashing down on an SUV on Monday morning along Pennsylvania Route 52.
Officials identified the driver of the SUV as 40-year-old Christina Mattoscio, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. Mattoscio did sustain injuries and was later taken to a nearby hospital, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
CBS News Philadelphia obtained the video from a KARCO gas station in the 1600 block of East Street Road in Kennett Square.
The footage shows a 2017 Ford Escape stopped behind another vehicle. Seconds later, a tree came crashing down on the back of the SUV on Lenape Road before East Street Road in Pennsbury Township.
“I was scared someone was hurt, and then when I saw her jump out of the car, I was relieved,” said John Debow.
Debow, who was working on the air conditioning system on the gas station’s roof, said it’s a miracle no one was seriously hurt.
“God helped whoever was in the car escape without injury,” he said.
CBS News Philadelphia went to the impound lot where the SUV now sits. The remaining wreckage of the car still had leftover tree bark from the fall on top of its now caved-in roof.

The gas station owner, who did not want to be identified, spent part of the day cleaning up debris. He said he’s grateful but concerned for the driver, adding that he also worries about more trees falling along the busy stretch of Route 52.

NANTICOKE, PA – U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer joined Rep. Rob Bresnahan Jr., union leaders, and local elected officials in Northeastern Pennsylvania on April 5 to kick off her nationwide America at Work listening tour.
During a roundtable and tour of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 163 Joint Apprenticeship Training Center, the group discussed supporting apprenticeships to develop a skilled workforce, improving infrastructure to attract businesses, investing in service members as they transition back home to their communities, and other ways to enhance America’s workforce. Union workers from a variety of trades, including electricians, ironworkers, and boilermakers participated in the roundtable along with state and local elected officials.
“From strengthening educational pathways for good-paying jobs to eliminating burdensome regulations that will drive economic growth, I enjoyed learning first-hand about the challenges and priorities of workers in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” Secretary Chavez-DeRemer said. “I look forward to hearing directly from more Americans as I help President Trump amplify the voices of workers who’ve been left behind by Washington.”
“It is crucial we have the skilled trade workforces needed to carry out essential infrastructure projects like rebuilding our roads and bridges, modernizing our electric grid, and implementing high-speed internet,” said Rep. Bresnahan. “These strong workforces would not be possible without apprenticeships. I want to thank Secretary Chavez-DeRemer for joining us and for making Northeastern Pennsylvania the first stop on her listening tour. I look forward to continuing this collaborative partnership with the Secretary and labor leaders to protect and prioritize American workers.”
Throughout her America at Work listening tour, the Secretary will continue meeting with various workers, union members, employers, and community leaders to ensure real-world experiences help shape and modernize federal labor policies and practices by taking the…

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. (WPVI) — A near-death experience was caught on camera outside of a gas station in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
It happened on Monday morning when a massive tree came crashing down on top of a car on Lenape Road in Kennett Square.
Amazingly, the woman was able to open her door and get out of her car. She then runs to the driver in front of her, seemingly dazed and clutching her head.
John De Bow watched it all. He was on the roof of a Karco gas station across the street, checking the HVAC unit when it happened.
“She almost died. It was inches away from her death,” said De Bow. “I heard cracking, and then I looked over and I saw it starting to fall, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God.'”
The tree was so big, he was worried it would hit him from across the street.
The trunk exploded as it crashed in the parking lot.
Workers were busy cleaning up the debris left behind.
De Bow has been worried about something like this. He noticed the dead tree before it fell and says others will likely come down.
“If you look at these other trees up here, they’re all dead, ready to fall down,” he said.
Connor McGivney is a certified arborist who works for Jake’s Tree Service in Glen Mills. He said he could clearly tell that the tree had been dead for years.
McGivney says this is a reminder for people to keep an eye on the trees on their property.
He says while PennDOT is responsible for the road, the property owner has to handle whatever is on their land.
Action News was told by both the neighboring homeowner and the construction company that’s housed near the property that the tree wasn’t their responsibility.
