Manhunt as muggers target elderly woman at cashpoint

Police say they are hunting to men who robbed an elderly woman on her mobility scooter as she took cash from an ATM at the Lloyds Bank in Plymstock.

Investigators say the elderly woman on a mobility scooter approached the cashpoint machine, which sits at the corner of the Broadway shopping centre and Dean Hill, at 8.20am this morning.

Moments after she took the money she was approached by two men who snatched the money and fled on foot through the Broadway, turned right into the covered path which leads to the main car park and then to the middle of the car park where they got into a blacked BMW 3 or 5 series estate. The car had blacked out windows at the rear of the vehicle.

The first suspect was described as being in his mid 20s to early 30s, wearing a navy blue hooded jacket, hair hair cut very short at the sides and longer on top – almost a mohican-style – a pair of grey tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

The second man was of a similar age, more stocky, wearing a light or light grey coloured hoodie, dark trousers. Police believe he is of Eastern European appearance with slightly darker skin and stubble.

The first male arrived back at the car first while the second man appeared to take his time and arrive a few moments later.

Police believe that there were a number of people around the area at the time, including schoolchildren and parents, who may have seen part of the incident or the two men racing through the town, or even which route out of the car park the men took.

Oberlander, Munsee Urge Drivers to Turn in Illegible License Plates

100591312_3624866794206897_748594443002576896_nCLARION, Pa. – Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion/Armstrong/Forest) recently reminded drivers that if their vehicle license plate is difficult to read, that replacement plates are available for free.

To help facilitate the process to turn in the illegible plate for a new one, Oberlander is teaming up with Clarion County Sheriff Rex Munsee for a special event on Tuesday, October 19, at her district office.

“Just like other parts of a vehicle, license plates are susceptible to damage and weather, and sometimes the letters and numbers can be difficult to read over time,” Oberlander said.

“Most motorists are unaware that replacement plates are available at no additional cost from PennDOT, and my office will help facilitate that process for affected drivers.”

From 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, drivers can bring their vehicles to the parking lot at Oberlander’s office along South Second Avenue to begin the replacement process. While there, personnel from the Clarion County Sheriff’s Office will determine if the plate is illegible, and if so, Oberlander’s staff will help drivers fill out the appropriate paperwork. A notary will be on site to assist.

Once submitted to PennDOT, the new replacement plates should arrive from Oberlander’s office in approximately two weeks.

According to PennDOT, a registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet or if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration, or loss of reflectivity. When a registration plate becomes illegible, PennDOT has two main ways of replacing them. First, the law allows PennDOT to reissue a registration plate upon request of a vehicle owner when an authorized representative of PennDOT or law enforcement determines that a registration plate is illegible.

“We daily see many license plates that are not readable,” said Munsee. “This program…

Connecticut and Chicago battle under the Mohegan Sun once again

After a classic Game 1, the Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun will meet again on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET at Mohegan Sun Arena. Game 1 ended with the Sky coming out victorious in double overtime, winning 101-95. What can Chicago do to put the Sun in a 0-2 hole and what can the Sun do to even the series?

Chicago has continued to shock the WNBA world with performances we were expecting all season long. It appears the team is beginning to reach the potential that had many calling this team a “super team” back in late January. They’ve now won three-straight playoff games and are looking at going 2-0 against the No. 1 seed.

It’ll be easier said than done however, with Chicago having a tough assignment beating the Jonquel Jones-led Sun in back-to-back games. They’ll need another great performance from Candace Parker and the other bigs on the team as the Sun love to pack the paint and play bully ball. Expect a very physical game and lots of buckets near the rim.

Turnovers have been the Achilles heel for the Sky in the James Wade era and Game 1 was no exception. Chicago had 20 turnovers compared to Connecticut’s 12. For the Sky to go up 2-0, they’ll have to do a better job of taking care of the ball.

The Connecticut Sun have been a dominant team all season long, but Chicago has given them headaches. The Sun have lost against the Sky three out of the four times they’ve played each other.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Sun respond in the first quarter. They have to get out to an early lead and set the tone for this game. That’s something they failed to do in Game 1 where…

This Eugene, Oregon Restaurant Serves Up Sushi Burritos to Die For

[]sushi burritos arranged with dipping sauceImage via / Facebook / SūBó

Just hearing the word sushi makes me instantly start to salivate. Sure, sushi may not be for everyone, but for myself, I’m hooked. I simply can’t get enough. The first time I saw a sushi burrito in my newsfeed on Facebook, which is commonly referred to as a Sushito, I knew I had to have one of these bad boys. Enter SūBó Sushi Burritos, a small family-owned chain of sushi restaurants where you can nosh on a gourmet nori-wrapped treat and still stay casual.

Pittston Area Football Roundup: Patriots post shutout on Homecoming Night

YATESVILLE – Things went rather well for Pittston Area in the first half Friday night.

Even a mishap turned into a touchdown.

The situation changed quite a bit in the second half, but not enough to put a three-touchdown advantage in danger against an opponent struggling all season to find the end zone.

Running back Harry Pugliese scored all three touchdowns, the last when he picked up an errant shotgun snap and ran 12 yards for a score, as the Patriots defeated Nanticoke, 21-0, on a Homecoming Night interdivisional game between Wyoming Valley Conference football teams.

Pittston Area improved to 2-4 while Nanticoke Area fell to 1-5.

Nanticoke used a 17-play drive to move 84 yards from its 4to the Pittston Area 12 before Robby Barbieri’s interception ended the threat.

The Trojans had three shots in Patriots territory in the second half, including taking over on the Patriots 24 on one possession, but the Pittston Area defense posted the shutout.

“We just couldn’t punch it in,” Nanticoke Area coach Ron Bruza said. “We have a young team

with a good nucleus, but that’s not an excuse. We’re already in Week Six and mental mistakes at the wrong time are just hurting us.”

Pittston Area looked like it was going to win with ease early on. Quarterback Drew DeLucca, who missed last week’s game with Wilkes-Barre Area with an injury, hit on passes of 22 and 16 yards to receiver Kevin Lockett on the Patriots’ first two plays from scrimmage. Pugliese took a pitch and ran around left end for a 20-yard score on the fourth play.

Then, after a Nanticoke punt, Pugliese scored on a 77-yard run on Pittston Area’s first play to make it 14-0 at 7:37 of…

Lamont marks start of CT sports betting with his first ever wagers

UNCASVILLE — Gov. Ned Lamont ushered in the next step in legalized gambling in Connecticut Thursday, making the state’s first legal sports wager with a $50 bet for the Connecticut Sun basketball team to beat the Chicago Sky.

After casting his bet at Mohegan Sun, the governor placed two $20 wagers at Foxwoods, picking the Yankees to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to top the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Both tribal casinos opened temporary sportsbooks on Thursday for in-person gambling, weeks after the state Department of Consumer Protection approved licenses for sports betting.

Lamont, who grew up a Yankees fan, said it was his first time ever betting on sports and that he was a “safe man.” With the exception of the Yankees, all of the teams the governor bet on were favored to win, though Lamont said he also bet on each of his teams to cover the spread.

“I bet my heart, I don’t know what the odds are,” Lamont said at Foxwoods.

If the Sun win, Lamont will receive $46.50 plus the $50 for a total of $96.50, a Mohegan official said. Foxwoods did not say what the governor’s payout would be for his bets.

A larger rollout…
