The Connecticut Sun could be sold. Does that mean a move is coming — and could Boston be in the mix?

Simply put: They’re exploring if they can get more investors or if it might be more beneficial to sell the team, which could open the Sun to relocation.

The Sun have one of the most unique ownership structures in professional sports. The franchise is owned by the Mohegan tribe, which purchased the team more than two decades ago when it was about to fold in Orlando.

But it costs a lot more to be competitive in the WNBA than it used to, and an ownership group that fit well 20 years ago might get boxed out in 2025.

After decades of underinvestment in the WNBA, the league is quickly turning into an arms race.

Teams are building out their facilities at a rapid clip to meet the moment. The defending champion New York Liberty announced in March plans to build an $80 million practice facility in Brooklyn. The expansion Golden State Valkyries launched this season with a 31,800-square-foot facility in nearby Oakland, Calif.

The Sun, on the other hand, went viral during the playoffs last year when they had to share their practice court with a child’s birthday party.

As investment in the WNBA grows rapidly, can the tribe and the Sun keep up?

ESPN reports the tribe helped the Sun become the first WNBA franchise to turn a profit.

“I’ve been here for four years. I think the tribe can support whatever they want, whatever decision they make,” Sun president Jennifer Rizzotti told ESPN. “They do everything first class. They pride themselves on guest experience and attention to detail and true investment in the right ways.

“If the tribe decides they want to own this team, they’re as competitive, I think, as any ownership group in the league.”

But Sportico reports the expectation for the Sun is a sale…

UN mission in Iraq closes key Mosul office as it winds down operations

A special mission established by the UN in 2003 at the request of the Iraq government has shut down a key office, in another step towards ceasing operations in the country by the end of this year.

The UN Assistance Mission in Iraq closed its offices Mosul this week. Unami, which has its headquarters in Baghdad, was set up after the US-led invasion that toppled the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein.

It was given a broad mandate to help develop Iraqi institutions, support political dialogue and elections, and promote human rights. The agency’s heads have shuttled between Iraq’s political, security and judicial officials to help resolve conflicts.

Baghdad requested last year that the mission end by 2025, saying it was no longer needed because Iraq had made significant progress towards stability. “Iraq has managed to take important steps in many fields, especially those that fall under Unami’s mandate,” Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani said in a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

However, the mission will continue to deliver in its remaining mandate, “including providing technical electoral assistance, promoting human rights, supporting humanitarian and development tasks”, an Unami representative told The National.

In the final months of the year, the agency’s work will be “transferred to the UN Country Team operating in Iraq or to the national authorities”, the representative said.

“In short, while Unami is leaving Iraq, the United Nations is not. The United Nations will continue to engage in support of the Government and the people of Iraq.”

Unami closed its office in the northern city of Kirkuk at the end of April. Its remaining offices in Erbil, capital of the Kurdish region, and in the southern city of Basra will be closed along with its headquarters at the end…

I swapped my Tesla for a BYD after getting frustrated with Elon Musk. It was the right decision, but there are some things I miss.

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Mahican Gielen, a radiologist in Hjørring, Denmark, about swapping her Tesla Model 3 for a BYD Sealion 7. It has been edited for length and clarity.

We live in Denmark, in the city of Hjørring, but we’re actually from Holland. My husband and I are both doctors: I’m a radiologist, and he’s a cardiologist.

I bought a Tesla Model 3 three years ago. It was my first electric car, and I’d wanted a Tesla for years.

My kids even pushed me because they knew I was looking for a car. They said: “Mom, it should be a Tesla. That’s the best car. It’s a green car. It saves the planet.”

I have to say, I loved that car. It was such a big step up from the normal combustion engines and had so many cool features. I still miss it sometimes.

The first time I got a bit annoyed with my Tesla was when the company started cutting the prices. I bought mine right before, so that hurt.

Elon Musk joining the Trump administration was the final straw. I love cars, but if owning one gets overruled by the constant noise about the CEO and people asking whether it bothers me, then the fun goes out of it.

I just didn’t want the headache anymore.

I know there is more to the company. But when you have a CEO who’s so visible, he just becomes one with the company. And I really feel bad for Tesla because I like the brand. They were so innovative and new.

But this was a step too far. It really made me say, you know what? I’m going to get rid of this car. It’s not going to get any better from here, so I’ll just cut my losses.

Buying a…

UConn Legend Paige Bueckers Details Return to Connecticut, Where Huskies’ Glory Began

Paige Bueckers never lost a game at Mohegan Sun Arena during her storied five-year career with the UConn Huskies. On Tuesday night, she’ll step back into that familiar arena. But this time, it will be as a professional, still searching for her first WNBA win.

Now the face of the Dallas Wings after being selected No. 1 overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Bueckers brings her 0-4 team to Connecticut to face the equally winless Sun in a battle of rebuilding squads. But for Bueckers, returning to Mohegan Sun feels like more than just another game.

“I feel like Mohegan is like my second home to Gampel (Pavilion) in Connecticut, so it’s great to be back,” Bueckers said to the Hartford Courant. “It’s definitely different. It’ll be weird stepping on the court, I think, not in a UConn uniform, but it’ll be something that I’ll enjoy with a new experience and a new team and new organization. It’s just another step in the new journey, and I’ll definitely enjoy being back here in the state I love so much.”

Bueckers went 15-0 at Mohegan during her college career, leading UConn to four Big East Tournament titles and, in 2025, another national championship. Her dominance on that floor, highlighted by averaging 22.3 points in her final Big East run, cemented her as one of the greatest to play for the Huskies

But this isn’t the UConn dynasty. The Wings are a young team with growing pains, and Bueckers has already lost more games in two weeks than she did her entire senior year. Still, she remains undeterred.

“What’s delayed is not denied,” she said. “We’re just trying to grow and stay optimistic.”

On a court where she once made history, Bueckers now seeks a fresh start. A win on Tuesday wouldn’t…

Last of the Mohican: Chile’s Iconic Hardman Arturo Vidal Embroiled in Football Match Fixing Scandal

Known in his homeland as “El Rey Arturo”, King Arthur, or simply “El Rey”, Chile’s midfield hardman Arturo Vidal has become embroiled in a match-fixing scandal that is rocking sports betting in the South American nation.

With his colourful Mohican haircut, Vidal is a veritable sporting superstar in his country.

He helped Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Inter Milan win league championships. And is the only Chilean to play in a Champions League final, appearing for Italian giants Juventus in 2015; although his team lost 1-3, with fellow South Americans, the Uruguayan Luis Suaréz and Brazilian Neymar scoring goals for opponents Barcelona.

But today glory has twisted to controversy for Vidal, who turned 38 last week, and he is mired in a scandal over his association with an online sports betting site he has actively promoted, amid suspicions of match fixing and conflicts of interest.

The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) is looking into the case and Vidal could face punishment or even a FIFA ban.

iGaming Paradox

Yet, paradoxically, online betting operators in Chile, where iGaming is yet to be fully regulated, are hoping the scandal swirling around the country’s most famous football player will actually help advance a bill that is stuck in Chile’s Senate, roadblocked by fierce opposition from retail casino interests.

In mid-April, Vidal’s current team, Chile’s Colo-Colo club, “The Wildcats”–the most successful domestic side in the country, winning the Primera División 34 times in its 100-year history, and the only Chilean side to ever lift the Copa Libertadores–launched a sports betting platform called “Play with the King” (Juega con el King) that also offers an online casino, games and live events.

At that time, Videl presented “Play with the King” as his own platform and appeared at the launch, giving away…

FANA’s Ambassador Albaum Territory expands to Poland and Hungary

For expedience’s sake, the Federation of Aboriginal Nations of the Americas will be referred to as FANA.

” On Tuesday, March 25, 2024, The Federation of Aboriginal Nations of the Americas’ Minister of International Affairs and its UN Ambassador Principal Chief Dr. Ronald Yonaguska Holloway of the SandHill Band of Lenape and Cherokee Indians (NY, NJ, PA), announced the appointment of Lorne H. Albaum as the Federation’s ambassador to Germany and Austria.

Mr. Albaum’s responsibilities will be to find a suitable location for the embassy, as well as establish contact with individuals and entities that advance FANA’s overall global strategic objectives…”

These were some of the lines in my Daily Kos Article dated April 10, 2024, regarding the appointment of Ambassador Albaum as FANA’s ambassador to Germany and Austria.

Due to Ambassador Albaum’s inroads in establishing FANA’s goals, FANA’s executive board decided to expand his territory to include Hungary and Poland.

He has been a lawyer dealing in public company acquisitions for 30 years, as well as commercial corporations,  Bank acquisitions, and the takeover of a large public company.

Ambassador Albaum is a specialist in corporate law and will be a significant help in setting up FANA’s banking network in Europe and Asia. He will help with our free trade between Sovereign entities and FANA. He will be appointed FANA’s judge on business affairs, who will report to Lord Orville Thomas, the Federation’s chief justice.

He will work with Judge Lady Sheila Davenport in the United Kingdom. Ambassador Albaum has worked with FANA Ambassador Fred Hazell and Chief of Staff Ambassador Scott for over 25 years.
Ambassador Albaum will be spending a considerable amount of time in all four countries in order to benefit FANA and fulfill its objectives.
