Several St. Louis Blues players who returned positive COVID-19 tests have been cleared to play in Game 2 on Wednesday night against Colorado after the results from a lab were investigated with follow-up tests coming back negative.

The Blues players involved were put into isolation as a precaution before being cleared. There were also positive tests involving Vegas Golden Knights players, who also were cleared.

The league said the reported results emanated from the same laboratory, and an investigation was initiated into the possibility that the initial test results reported might have been in error. All affected players were immediately isolated and further testing was done. Those tests returned uniformly negative results, which confirmed that the initial reported test results were wrong.

Blues wingers Vladimir Tarasenko and Jaden Schwartz and goaltender Jordan Binnington were not on the ice with the rest of the team for the pregame skate early Wednesday. The Blues currently have leading scorer David Perron and two other players on the COVID protocol list.

South Carolina is opening to full capacity at Williams-Brice Stadium next football season.

The school’s athletic department says it plans for 100% capacity in the fall, including traditional tailgating in areas around the 77,559-seat facility. Masks will not be required for entrance going forward.

The school limited attendance last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic to about 20,000 fans per game. Masks and social distancing were required for entrance. But athletic director Ray Tanner says those attending football games next season can “enjoy all of the game day traditions as in previous years.”

South Carolina opens the season Sept. 4 against Eastern Illinois.

Many businesses are breathing a little easier knowing they can operate without restriction,

With the state removing virtually all business restrictions Wednesday, establishments are looking forward to getting back to business as usual or as close to it as possible while maintaining a safe environment.

Among the businesses affected the most have been bars and nightclubs. This morning, for the first time in over a year, the owner of Hartford’s Russian Lady was preparing to open for business.

“We’ve got a lot of catching up to do. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us,” said Jerry Fornarelli.

Fornarelli, who also owns the Rocking Horse Saloon, estimates it could take three years to make up his losses. He is excited about Wednesday’s reopening but will do it cautiously. Safety barriers are in place and employees will be wearing masks.

“We want to keep our staff safe and our customers as well,” Fornarelli said.

Coinciding with the relaxation of restrictions the Department of Public Health (DPH) issued guidance. DPH recommends all people wear masks in schools, health care facilities, and transportation hubs.

Although private businesses can ask people to wear masks, they are no longer a state requirement for vaccinated people in many business settings.

Berlin’s Powerhouse Gym says it will maintain strict sanitation efforts but masks will be optional.

“People are finally able to breathe,” said Co-owner, Jack Banks. “People are on the treadmill and they’re smiling again.”

Although Mohegan Sun is located on tribal lands its protocols are aligned closely with the state. Starting Wednesday, masks are no longer required for vaccinated people and restaurants are at full capacity. Still the casino is being cautious.

“It’s still going to stay at, every other slot machine. We’re going to keep our table maximums to three or four spots…

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – May 17, 2006: That’s the date on which Cris Cyborg made her professional MMA debut.

This past Monday marked the 16th anniversary of that fight. Twenty-four professional fights later, Cyborg continues to roll.

As she enters her Bellator 259 main event against Leslie Smith (12-8-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), which takes place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena, Cyborg (23-2 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) is well aware of the date and its meaning. Her team has already cranked out the T-shirts, in fact.

“It feels like just yesterday I started,” Cyborg told MMA Junkie on Wednesday. “(Time) moves so fast. … I feel very blessed for these 16 years of success. I’ve held four world titles. For me, I’m just thankful.”

How has Cyborg absorbed a decade of kicks, punches, knees and submissions and come out relatively unscathed, still able to compete? The Bellator women’s featherweight champion pointed to her passion for the sport.

“I work hard, but if you love something you do and you love your work, you can do 16 years or more,” Cyborg said.

Even after all these years, there is no motivation lacking for Cyborg. In fact, she likes sitting atop a storied career because it feels like she simply doesn’t have anything else to prove. She’s accomplished so much in her career and can still build on her legacy by leading by example inside and outside the cage.

“There’s no pressure,” Cyborg said. “I like to fight for my fans, to be an example for everyone, continue to improve women’s MMA and to do my missionary work. I feel great. I feel every day is new. I’m excited for Bellator. It makes a fire in my heart. I’m excited to just enjoy the moment.”

UNCASVILLE, CT — Mohegan Sun Arena has announced reopening this summer. The arena will open with limited capacity for May through July for private shows, CT Sun games, Bellator MMA, and then public concerts on July 18.

Mohegan Sun Arena plans to return to full capacity when Lady A, whose national tour starts at Mohegan Sun, performs on July 29.

Health and safety measures will be in effect at Mohegan Sun Arena, including some limitations on food and beverage service and electronic ticketing.

“While much of the past year Mohegan Sun Arena was one of the few venues producing live events, it’s with great excitement we can now bring back live fans to enjoy both sports and entertainment at our world-class venue,” Jeff Hamilton, President & General Manager of Mohegan Sun, said in a statement. “As the summer approaches, Mohegan Sun will also be announcing additional events and festivities to take place across our property, including some of our most popular outdoor events.”

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – MMA Junkie was on scene at Thursday’s official Bellator 259 fighter weigh-ins.

The weigh-ins took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The same venue hosts Friday’s event, which has a main card on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.

Among those who made weight were women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg (23-2 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) and challenger Leslie Smith (12-8-1 MMA, 2-2 BMMA), who meet in the main event. Both fighters came in under the 145-pound limit.

Out of the 28 fighters scheduled for tomorrow’s card, 26 made weight. One-half of the co-main event and one preliminary card fighter, however, came in heavy.

For the second straight fight, bantamweight contender Leandro Higo (20-5 MMA, 3-3 BMMA) missed the mark for his co-main event bout vs. Darrion Caldwell (15-4 MMA, 12-3 BMMA). While it was closer than his four-pound miss before his last outing, Higo weighed in 1.5 pounds over the bantamweight limit.

The bigger miss of the pair, however, belonged to featherweight contender Leah McCourt (4-1 MMA, 3-0 BMMA), who weighed in at 149.4 pounds for her fight against Janay Harding (6-4 MMA, 3-2 BMMA).

As of now, both fights will proceed as planned with the fighters who missed weight forfeiting a percentage of their purse to their opponent.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Jaleel Willis answered questions at a media day ahead of his bout with Maycon Mendonca at Bellator 259.

Willis (14-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) meets Mendonca (11-4 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) in a welterweight bout on Friday’s main card at Mohegan Sun Arena. “The Realest” wants to follow up on a successful Bellator debut and pick up a second win in the promotion in hopes to re-enter the promotion’s official rankings.
