UNCASVILLE, Conn., Feb. 9, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (“MGE” or the “Company”), a master developer and operator of premier integrated entertainment resorts, today announced operating results for its first fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2021.

“Our consolidated Adjusted EBITDA of $97.4 million continues our trend of strong performance and demonstrates MGE’s ability to drive profitability,” said Raymond Pineault, Chief Executive Officer of the Company. “In addition, following the successful completion of financing in November 2021, we are very pleased to announce that MGE has recommenced construction of Inspire Korea.”

Carol Anderson, Chief Financial Officer of the Company, also noted, “These results, including our strong Adjusted EBITDA margins, continue to reflect MGE’s ability to adapt to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. At our flagship property Mohegan Sun, Adjusted EBITDA was $78.2 million, 20.1% favorable to the period ended December 31, 2019, which is the closest pre-COVID-19 comparable, while net revenues and Adjusted EBITDA margin were up 3.4%, and 430 basis points, respectively, over the same period. Mohegan Sun Pocono, Mohegan Sun Casino Las Vegas, ilani Casino Resort and Resorts Casino Hotel all continue to perform well. US tribal casino operator Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment says it has recommenced construction of its South Korean integrated resort, Inspire Korea, after completing financing late last year.

As previously reported by Inside Asian Gaming, Mohegan confirmed the completion of financing in November with the full US$1.55 billion in aggregate funding comprising US$575 million in equity, a KRW1.04 trillion (US$890 million) finance loan from raised through a three-bank Korean consortium – KB Securities, NH Investment & Securities and Hana Financial Investment – and KRW100 billion (US$85.5 million) from the General Contractor, Hanwha Engineering & Construction Corp.

Subsequent to completion of the financing, Inside Asian Gaming interviewed Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment International President Bobby Soper in December 2021.

As part of its overnight results announcement for the three months to 31 December 2021, Mohegan said Hanwha Engineering & Construction Corp has “remobilized and recommenced construction work on site” including structural steelwork and below grade utility construction plus infrastructure related work such as utilities and roadways to the site. The procurement of major trades and long lead items is also in progress.

Mohegan had stated upon securing final financing in November that it is hoping to open Inspire Korea within the first half of 2023.

The development is slated to include three hotel towers, an arena, a foreigner-only casino, dining, retail, convention and entertainment options, a year-round indoor water dome experience, and an outdoor family park.

It will become the second integrated resort to open in Incheon after Paradise City – the latter being a joint venture partnership between Korea’s Paradise Co and Japanese gaming firm Sega Sammy Holdings.

The company said on a call with analysts overnight that the resumption of construction “demonstrates MGE’s dedication to growth and diversification.”

After taking bets at the casino’s sports bar since the end of September, the permanent Mohegan Sun FanDuel Sportsbook in Connecticut will have a soft opening on Thursday — just in time for Sunday’s Super Bowl, a national sports betting holiday.

The first legal bet in Connecticut was placed on Sept. 29 at the Mohegan Sun’s Bow & Arrow Sports Bar by Gov. Ned Lamont. He bet $50 on the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA Playoffs at the temporary Mohegan Sun sportsbook. At the time it had four live betting windows and 50 self-service betting terminals.

The permanent sportsbook, which soft launches at 9 a.m. Thursday, will have multiple live teller windows and 39 betting kiosks, according to a news release. One of the kiosks will be on the all-new mezzanine level that has 22 luxury seats.

The new sportsbook, located in the old Race Book, will have 222 total seats and a 140-foot video wall in its 11,000 square feet, the release said.

The casino is slated to have a soft-opening Thursday for its new Mohegan Sun FanDuel Sportsbook, days ahead of Sunday’s big game in Los Angeles.

MONTVILLE, Conn. — Mohegan Sun is entering a new era of sports betting with the grand opening of its new Sportsbook facility, just days before the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams do battle in the 2022 Super Bowl.

Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE) will hold a soft-opening for its new Mohegan Sun FanDuel Sportsbook Thursday at the site of the casino’s former Race Book.

MGE says the Sportsbook will be open on Sunday, Feb. 13, for the 2022 Super Bowl, where fans can take advantage of a free FanDuel bet up to $50, and a special “Big Game Buffet.”

The official grand opening for the Sportsbook will be held March 5.

The new Mohegan Sun FanDuel Sportsbook spans 11,000 square feet, and includes a 140-foot video wall, more than 30 high-res flat screen televisions, a mezzanine level, a full bar, and more.

The Board of Ed wants to adopt new names by their June 7 meeting.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The West Hartford Board of Education voted Tuesday night to change the mascot names for two local high schools.

The vote to change Conard High School’s “Chieftain” name was 5-2. The “Warrior” name for Hall High School also voted to be changed in a 4-3 vote.

A group of administrators, staff, students, alumni, parents, and more will be assembled to come up with the new names.

The Board of Ed wants to adopt new names by their June 7 meeting, and start implementing those changes by the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year.

The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Fund will not distribute grants to Connecticut municipalities with schools that use logos and names associated with a state or federally recognized Native American tribe or individual, per the state’s 2021 Public Act 21-2. School districts across the state are working to comply with the Public Act so that they do not lose out on that funding.

In December 2021, the Glastonbury Board of Education also voted to change the high school’s team name and mascot to the Guardians. It was a controversial topic, and it led to a physical altercation between a board member and a resident during a public hearing.

Blues sensation Christone “Kingfish” Ingram is set to perform three times in Connecticut next weekend. He’s celebrating the release of his dynamic second Alligator Records album, the recently Grammy-nominated “662” , which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues chart.

Kingfish has a performance at the Warehouse at FTC in Fairfield Feb. 10; at Infinity Hall in Hartford Feb. 11; and at Infinity Hall in Norfolk Feb. 12.

In his short career, the 22 year-old Ingram has already become the most celebrated blues musician of his generation, and for good reason. Buddy Guy called him, “the next explosion of blues.” Rolling Stone declared him to be “one of the most exciting young guitarists in years, with a sound that encompasses B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and Prince.”

NPR Music described his music as “blues at its raw and powerful best.” He also received an avalanche of national and regional press, in major dailiesincluding the New York Times, Washington Post, national publications such as DownBeat, Relix, MOJO and just about all the guitar magazines, and a host of online media.
