Connecticut Online Sports Betting – Now Legal and Live!

After Governor Ned Lamont signed the bill into law in May 2021, sports betting officially became legal in Connecticut. The Mashantucket Pequots and Mohegans operate Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, respectively, and have long been a dominant force in both state politics and casino gaming. Both are now able to offer online sports betting in Connecticut, along with the CT Lottery. Online betting officially began in October 2021.

While the long road to legalized sports betting in Connecticut has come to an end, there is still a lot to unpack. Read on for more information about the state’s legislation, the two tribes’ exclusivity agreement, why Sportech is not happy with any of this, what it means for bettors, and which operators are now live in the Nutmeg State.

Update: Fanatics Sportsbook has replaced SugarHouse and is now available in Connecticut. This is great news for bettors in the state because Fanatics is one of the best new sportsbooks available today.

Connecticut Sports Betting Legislation

Connecticut has two primary, federally recognized tribes that basically control casino gaming in the state. You’ve probably heard of Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun; Foxwoods was at one point the largest casino in the country. It is now #2, followed by Mohegan Sun at #3 based on square feet of gaming space. Yes, they are both larger than every casino in Las Vegas. In case you’re interested, the largest casino in America is the Winstar Casino in Oklahoma, of all places.

Because of their influence in the state, the Mashantucket Pequots and Mohegans were always going to be given access to the sports betting market. Because of the tribal involvement in the state’s gaming market, everything had to go through the US Department of…

Defending champion CT basketball coach who lost mother to cancer resigns

Simsbury girls basketball coach Sam Zullo, who had a bittersweet season last winter after he lost his mother but then won the school’s first girls basketball title, has resigned from his position to spend more time with his family.

Simsbury won its first state championship in girls basketball in Class L in the program’s first appearance at Mohegan Sun, 55-40, over Holy Cross.

On the same weekend, his father Jim, a long-time coach in upstate New York, coached his girls basketball team to the state championship game but lost.

Zullo’s mom Linda, who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer last year, encouraged her husband, who was retired, to take a coaching job so he would have something to do, and made her son promise he would not miss any games because of her. Sam drove back and forth from Connecticut to upstate New York at the end but did not miss a game. Linda died Jan. 14.

“It’s tough,” Sam Zullo said. “It doesn’t feel real. I almost did this last year. As magical as the run was, and it’s really nice to tell the story that my mom wanted me to go to games… she said that because it was her last self-sacrifice, but it’s not something that sits well with me.

“The Hurricane” Hits Mohegan Sun Arena on June 15th

(JUNE 6) WARWICK, RHODE ISLAND – Jaime “The Hurricane” Clampitt (25-6-2, 7 KOs) returns to Mohegan Sun Arena for one last fight on June 15th, when she battles Canada’s Kandi Wyatt (12-6, 3 KOs) in an 8-round lightweight contest on CES Boxing’s ‘Championship Jackpot 2024’. The fight caps off an incredible hall-of-fame career for Clampitt that saw her win four (4) world titles in two weight classes, defeating the likes of Jane Couch, Mia St. John, and many others along the way.

Clampitt vs. Wyatt is part of a massive doubleheader on Father’s Day weekend featuring 11 pro bouts, headlined by hometown favorite Chordale “The Gift” Booker. The pro card is preceded by ‘Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Invitational,’ a card showcasing many of the best amateurs in the United States. Pricing for this epic 2-for-1 show starts at $72 and can be purchased at CESFight.com or Ticketmaster.

“I’ve seen her fight some great champions and she’s very tough,” said the Warwick resident of Wyatt, a 4-time title challenger who has shared the ring with the likes of current and former champions Natasha Jonas, Jessica McCaskill, Christina Linardatou and Kali Reis. “She’s a lot bigger than me. I’ve been closer to 130 lbs. my last few fights, and she’ll probably come in a little over 135 for this one. Earlier in my career, I fought as high as 140, but I haven’t fought in that weight class for a long time.”

Indeed, Clampitt began her career in 2000 as a lightweight, winning titles at 135 and 140 lbs before retiring in 2013 to start…

The Cartells Inducted Into Mohegan Sun Hall Of Fame

UNCASVILLE (CelebrityAccess) – On Friday (May 31), The Cartells were honored as the 15th inductee into Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den Hall of Fame, joining legendary Wolf Den acts like Chubby Checker, David Foster, Tower of Power and more. Before their back-to-back free shows, Greg Romeyn, Mohegan’s Director of Sports and Entertainment, presented the Mystic, CT-based band with the esteemed honor.

“The Cartells have continued to bring world-class entertainment to Mohegan Sun since their debut,” said Romeyn. “We look forward to having them continue playing on the Wolf Den stage for years to come.”

The seven-piece band accepted their honor before a packed Wolf Den crowd.

“We are humbled and honored to receive this award,” said lead vocalist Karin Tyska. “Our band has played here since 1997. It’s been a great run, and we are thrilled to share this honor with all of our family, friends, and fans.”

The Wolf Den Hall of Fame at Mohegan Sun is a select club that honors a particular class of performers whose exceptional talents and commitment have helped make Mohegan Sun a world-class entertainment destination. As some of our most celebrated performers, these artists have shown loyalty to fans at Mohegan Sun and have helped shape the Wolf Den into the successful venue it is today.

The Cartells, a Mystic, CT-based legacy rock band, have brought their versatile repertoire, including rock and roll, jazz, swing, R&B, and Motown, to the concert stage, clubs and high-end events on the East Coast since their formation in April of 1986.

The founders of the band, Bill Holloman, Karin Barth Tyska, Joe Grieco and Gary Stevens, started as a four-piece vocals forward style group. Along the way, the quartet was joined by a…
