Red-hot Julian Lane comes of age with BKFC

Julian Lane is aging like a fine wine.

“You ain’t lying,” the battle-tested Lane says with a laugh. “I tell myself that almost every day.”

A true pioneer of bare knuckle fighting, Lane made his promotional debut at BKFC 4 in 2019. Classic battles with iconic fighters like “Platinum” Mike Perry, David “Redneck” Mundell and Thiago “Pitbull” Alves made Lane an instant favorite in the Squared Circle. Although always tenacious and exciting to BKFC fans, Lane struggled to string wins together earlier in his bare knuckle fighting career.

Now, five years since his BKFC debut, the 37-year-old Mansfield, OH product brings an impressive three-fight winning streak into his Main Event showdown with Cameron VanCamp on Saturday, LIVE globally on DAZN from the legendary Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT.

The biggest reason for Lane’s recent surge up the rankings, he says, is maturity.

“Less fun and more work,” he offers, smiling. “I’ve been taking my training very seriously. Training harder and just going with the flow, man.”

Lane is in awe of BKFC’s growth in recent years. Hot on the heels of the biggest event in BKFC history — KnuckleMania V on Saturday at the sold-out Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia — he’s eager to steal the show at Mohegan Sun. It’s a crucial step in his mission to win the BKFC World Welterweight Championship in 2025.

Lane’s journey hasn’t been easy. He says that fact will make his title reign that much sweeter.

“That’s always been my goal. Every time I fight, I always want to be the best in the world. With what I’ve been through — the ups and the downs — this will show people that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and you work hard,” Lane says.

“The new me is here,”…

Kelsey Mitchell Explains Caitlin Clark’s Influence on Fever Re-Signing

January 29 has been a fantastic day for the Indiana Fever and its fanbase.

This is because star guard Kelsey Mitchell has re-signed with the team for the 2025 season. Not only is Mitchell beloved among the Fever’s fanbase because she has been with the team ever since getting drafted with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft by Indiana, but because her backcourt duo alongside Caitlin Clark turned the Fever into one of the WNBA’s most lethal teams in the second half of the 2024 regular season.

Clark already made her opinion about Mitchell re-signing apparent. And during her welcome reception back at Indiana’s arena on Tuesday, Mitchell spoke about how Clark helped convince her to stay.

“I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Mitchell said when addressing the Fever crowd, per an X post from the Fever’s social media account. “Indiana has been my second home since I went pro, so this is the only city I know.

“To see you guys open your arms up to me… that was a big part of me coming back because I got a chance to meet really great people,” she added.

“Then I met one of the greatest people in the world, Caitlin Clark, who just ran the basketball world,” Mitchell said. “I think together, we hope to make you guys proud. We hope to make you guys feel like you’re a part of our success and our journey. And I’m here. Let’s do this.”

It will be…

Newly crowned Ben Rothwell is leaving his mark with BKFC

Ben Rothwell proudly wore the BKFC World Heavyweight Championship belt over his shoulder at the KnuckleMania V post-fight press conference.

The belt is heavy, but Rothwell felt a massive burden lifted off his shoulders.

Less than an hour earlier, the combat sports legend accomplished his lifelong dream of winning a world championship. Defying the oddsmakers and many of his peers on the BKFC roster, Rothwell dethroned Mick Terrill with a 36-second KO in front of more than 17,000 screaming fans at the sold-out Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

“It’s kind of tough to put it all into words; it still feels very surreal,” says Rothwell, who’s rarely been short on words during his storied combat sports run.

Rothwell enjoyed a long, successful career in MMA. He’s defeated his share of world champions, but a UFC belt eluded him during his 17 fights with the promotion.

“So many people have believed in me for so long and have wanted to see me get a world title, and I finally did it. At 43 years old, man, I thought I let the opportunity slip by me,” Rothwell says.

“I had kind of accepted the fact that I wouldn’t be a world champion,” he adds. “I went through the depression, through all the stages of grief, but here it is. It’s happened. It’s real, but it’s pretty surreal.”

Rothwell is happier now than he was before Saturday’s Co-Main Event showdown with Terrill, but he’s definitely not satisfied. He hopes for a quick turnaround — ideally in his home state of Wisconsin, where bare knuckle fighting is in the process of being legalized.

“I’m ready for anything,” he says. “I want to be a busy champion and leave my mark as a champion in the sport of bare knuckle fighting.”

Last Call: Brewery In Century-Old Church Announces Closure In Mohegan Lake

https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=4QQ88a_0yWxhdlI00

A Northern Westchester brewery known for its unique setting inside a century-old church has set its closing date.

Argonne Rose Brewing Company , located at 1715 East Main St. (Route 6) in Mohegan Lake, announced that its last day of service will be Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, citing “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for the closure.

In a heartfelt statement, owners Sarah, Marc, and Dave thanked their patrons and the local brewing community for making their journey special.

“The warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories shared with all of you have been what truly made this place unique,” they wrote. “Connecting with our regulars and meeting new friends has been a highlight of our time here.”

The brewery, which held its grand opening on New Year’s Eve 2022 , was known for its craft beer, gastropub menu, and historic atmosphere inside the former St. George’s Church, built in 1911. The owners, who share a passion for history, chose the name “Argonne Rose” as a tribute to the Argonne Forest in France, the site of a pivotal World War I battle, and the U.S. national flower, the rose.

Since its opening, Argonne Rose became a local gathering spot, offering live music, community events, and a unique blend of brewing traditions and modern techniques.

The owners also expressed gratitude to their dedicated team, emphasizing that their success was made possible through the support of family, friends, and the greater Westchester brewing community.

As the brewery prepares for its final weeks, patrons are encouraged to stop by and celebrate before the doors close for good.

“Let’s make these last moments together unforgettable,” the owners said.

For a second summer in a row, Dave Matthews Band to skip Connecticut on upcoming summer tour

Dave Matthews Band fans in Connecticut expecting a tour stop in the Nutmeg State on its annual summer tour may be disappointed this year. The band announced its spring and summer tour dates on Tuesday with Connecticut noticeably absent from the itinerary.

The band was a staple at Hartford’s Xfinity Theatre — playing almost yearly since 1995 and seldomly skipping the state on its annual summer jaunts. Last year, the band skipped Hartford, but played Mohegan Sun Arena in the fall

Neither Xfinity Theatre nor Dave Matthews Band responded to requests for comment.

Those looking to catch the band nearby on its upcoming tour can travel to New York for its shows in Bethel (May 24), Syracuse (May 27) or Saratoga Springs (July 18-19). Dave Matthews Band will also be performing shows in New Jersey and New Hampshire as well as headlining the Boston Calling music festival, which is held at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Cambridge, Mass., on Memorial Day weekend.

Matthews and his group were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of its 2024 class alongside Ozzy Osbourne, A Tribe Called Quest, Cher, Peter Frampton, Foreigner, Kool & The Gang and Mary J. Blige. Last fall, the band headlined the Soulshine benefit concert at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, which raised $4.5 million for those impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton, according to a news release from Shore Fire Media. Connecticut’s Goose, Trey Anastasio from Phish, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and the Warren Haynes Band were among the other performers at the benefit concert.

Pre-sale tickets for Matthews’ summer tour dates, outside of Boston Calling and other festivals the band is performing at, are available to request through the DMB Warehouse Fan Association. Tickets will go on…
