Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC), the world’s fastest growing combat sports promotion, made its hugely anticipated New England debut with BKFC 61 on Saturday, May 11 at the legendary Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT.

In the BKFC 61 Main Event, former UFC headliner Jimmie “El Terror” Rivera defeated former Bellator MMA champion Daniel Straus via unanimous decision. Two judges scored it 50-45, while one had it 48-47, all in favor of the Ramsey, NJ product Rivera, who’s now 2-1-1 in the Squared Circle. Straus, who hails from Hollywood, FL, falls to 0-2. 

“I wanted a finish, but I didn’t get it. Daniel Straus is a tough (expletive). To everyone who came out here tonight, thank you so much. To all the moms, thank you so much – I hope you have a wonderful Sunday,” Rivera told the packed Mohegan Sun.

“I’m always ready. Kai Stewart is always running. I want to see who the winner is of his fight with Bryan Duran at BKFC 62, and I want that belt.”

In the BKFC 61 Co-Main Event, Ramsey, NJ’s Mike “The Lone Wolf” Trizano needed just 62 seconds to reign supreme in his hotly anticipated BKFC debut against former BKFC World Featherweight Championship challenger Louie “El Loco” Lopez of Great Falls, MT. Trizano, who won the UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter tournament, is now 1-0 following his TKO victory, while Lopez’s record falls to 3-4.

“I feel amazing. I want to thank everybody that supports me. I want to give a shoutout to my son. I wish you were here. This one was for him,” Trizano told the jam-packed Mohegan Sun. “Dude, this was (expletive) awesome. I love this (expletive).”

Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship made its debut at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT on Saturday, May 11 with BKFC 61. On the top of fight card, Jimmie Rivera of Ramsey, NJ defeated Daniel Straus of Cincinnati, OH by unanimous decision. After five rounds at featherweight, the scores were 50-45, 48-47 and 50-45.

UNCASVILLE — On Saturday night, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship made its debut in New England as BKFC 61 Connecticut: Rivera vs. Straus took place at the Mohegan Sun Arena, in Uncasville, Connecticut.

The event was highlighted by former UFC fighter Jimmie Rivera against two-time Bellator champion, Daniel Straus. In the co-main event, former UFC fighter and TUF 27 champion, Michael Trizano took on Louie Lopez in less than a week’s notice. 

Being natives of Ramsey, New Jersey, Rivera and Trizano are teammates and train together at Team Tiger Schulmann, in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. Though they didn’t fight in their home state, they fought close enough to have some friends and family come out for the event on a night that saw both New Jerseyans victorious. 

The event saw 5,700 people in attendance in what BKFC president David Feldman called a successful debut in New England. 

“Great start here in New England at Mohegan Sun, it was a good night for us,” said Feldman. “Great crowd for our first show. Great fights…. It was a good night. I enjoyed myself here. The staff here, the commission here, everybody here was a real pleasure to work with at Mohegan Sun.”

In the main event, Rivera, a former UFC bantamweight/featherweight who was the third-ranked bantamweight in the UFC in 2016, improved to 2-1-1 in BKFC following a unanimous decision victory (50-45 x2, 48-47) over former Bellator featherweight champion, Daniel Straus (0-2.) 

Rivera enjoyed a special moment during his walkout. He graduated from the New Jersey police academy in January 2023, and was walked out by New Jersey police officers on Saturday night. With his teammate earning a first-round knockout, and fighting in front of his home people, he felt additional pressure heading into his fight.

Earlier this year, guitarist Steve Lukather revealed there will be no new Toto music “right now”, due to legal complications. The guitarist made the comment speaking to eonmusic at the Leslie West Tribute, which took place in Agoura Hills, California on Tuesday, January 23.

Lukather was on hand to honour the late Mountain band leader at the bash in aid of charity MusiCares along with a host of others including Doors’ legend Robbie Krieger, Bon Jovi man Phil X, and Eagles of Death Metal’s Jesse Hughes.

Pressed about new music from Toto, given that the band members including Steve himself, singer Joseph Williams and pianist David Paich have all collaborated on each others’ most recent solo albums, he replied; “Not right now. There’s too much legal bullshit with that. I mean, we make records. I made a record about six months ago with all the guys. We still love each other and play.”

Jun. 18—MOHEGAN — Ask DeWanna Bonner how she’s doing on any given day and the Connecticut Sun veteran will most likely answer, “I’m old.”

On a Friday night in which a sizable percentage of the 7,088 fans came to Mohegan Sun Arena to see the Seattle Storm’s Breanna Stewart and most especially old favorite Sue Bird, it was Bonner who shined when it counted.

Bonner scored 15 of her game-high 20 in the fourth and added 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the Sun to an 82-71 win.

Connecticut (12-4) clinched the season series against the Storm (9-6). It won at Seattle on June 5, 93-86.

Bonner missed 10 of 12 shots through three quarters. She made six of her seven field goals in the fourth, including two threes.

“My teammates, man, they just kept telling me to keep shooting, it’s going to fall, it’s going to fall at the right time,” Bonner said. “That’s what (happened). Once I got one going, I felt a little bit better. They just told me to keep staying aggressive because I think I passed up a couple of shots (earlier).”

Jonquel Jones had 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for the Sun and Brionna Jones added 19 points. Alyssa Thomas added 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Connecticut shot 52.2-percent.

Stewart led Seattle with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Bird scored 14 with four assists.

“The fourth quarter, we struggled,” Stewart said. “In order to steal a game on the road, you have to play better in all (four) quarters.”

Connecticut had gone cold in the third quarter (it shot 35.3-percent from the floor) and needed someone to get rolling. That someone was Bonner.

The collaboration aims to improve the deposit and withdrawal experience for players.

Mohegan Digital, the iGaming division of Mohegan, has announced its partnership with PayNearMe, selecting the fintech company’s MoneyLine platform as its payment provider for online gaming operations in Pennsylvania.

This collaboration aims to enhance the deposit and withdrawal experience for players while ensuring regulatory compliance.

With PayNearMe’s MoneyLine platform, Mohegan Digital will gain access to a range of payment options through a single integration. This includes debit and credit cards, PayPal, Venmo, Guaranteed ACH and cash at retail locations.

Rich Roberts, President of Mohegan Digital, commented: “To differentiate our brand in the Pennsylvania online gaming market, we knew we needed to offer players the most deposit and payout options immediately at launch.

“PayNearMe’s MoneyLine platform allows us to stay competitive while saving our product team the significant time and cost that would have been required to integrate multiple payment types and channels.”

In addition to facilitating deposits and withdrawals, MoneyLine offers fraud and risk prevention capabilities to safeguard player transactions.

Mohegan Digital will also benefit from access to PayNearMe’s Insights dashboard, allowing them to gain insights into player payment behaviour.
