Mohegan Gaming will hold a soft opening of its new South Korean property INSPIRE Entertainment Resort on November 30. The announcement was made this week by Mohegan Gaming’s President Chen Si.

INSPIRE is a large-scale integrated entertainment resort in the International Business Center III (IBC-III) near Incheon International Airport in Yeongjong-do. The resort is the eighth property of its parent company, Mohegan. Spanning a land area of 461,661 square meters, the facility required an investment of approximately KRW 2 trillion ($1.53 billion).

This first phase includes three hotel towers with 1,275 rooms, Korea’s first multi-purpose arena, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) facilities including the largest ballroom in Korea, restaurants, and digital entertainment street Aurora.

INSPIRE plans to open the entire resort in phases by the first half of 2024, employing a gradual opening strategy.

“This is a momentous occasion for Mohegan, marking both a historic partnership for our Tribe and a new echelon for our system of premier integrated entertainment resorts around the world,” said James Gessner Jr., Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe and the Mohegan Management Board.

“We have been honored to work closely with the Korean government to make this day possible, and we look forward to INSPIRE contributing to the local and regional economies by creating local jobs, bringing visitors to enjoy the Incheon region, and attracting new businesses both on and adjacent to the property.”

The soft opening will introduce a premier hotel comprising three towers, each with a distinct concept (Forest Tower, Sun Tower, and Ocean Tower); INSPIRE Arena, a multi-purpose indoor performance venue with a total capacity of 15,000 seats; and Aurora, a 150-meter-long digital entertainment street featuring large LED screens.

President of Mohegan INSPIRE Entertainment Resort, Chen Si, revealed the official opening of the resort’s first stage as a real “entertainment resort in Asia.” The soft opening is scheduled to occur on November 30. Additionally, this particular phase involves outstanding attractions such as 3 hotel towers equipped with 1,275 rooms, the first-ever multi-purpose arena in South Korea, MICE establishments involving the biggest ballroom in the country, a modern digital entertainment street named Aurora and its signature restaurants.

Setting a new standard:

With the motto “Inspiring Worlds, Inspiring People,” the integrated resort wants to establish a completely fresh standard when it comes to entertainment resorts in the country, providing a memorable and a unique experience to guests of all nationalities and generations. Additionally, it intends to officially open the whole resort in phases by the end of the first half of next year, using a measured opening plan.

After a 3-0 start against lower-tier conference teams, URI was hungry for more challenging competition. Unfortunately, things started out as if the Rams did not realize the ref had thrown up the ball, and the game had started. URI fell behind 22 to 2 against Northwestern and lost by 11, with a final score of 72 to 61. URI will now face another team from a major conference- Washington State from the Pac-12- in the Hall of Fame Classic consolation game at Mohegan Sun.

The Rams got hammered out of the gate. It was ugly. It looked like URI was playing the penny slot machines, and Northwestern was at the high rollers table. URI could not find a good shot to take and repeatedly missed the shots they forced. The team had no flow or motion and could not get the ball inside as they did so successfully during their first three games. Northwestern was confident and comfortable with its 20-point lead twelve minutes into the game. URI shot 1 for 15 from the field during these first twelve minutes. Unable to get the ball inside, URI resorted to firing three-point shots and went 0 for 7 on 3s during this stretch. Things looked bleak.

BOXSCORE: WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins lost to the Hershey Bears in overtime, 5-4, on Wednesday night at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (6-5-2-0) battled tooth-and-nail with its bitter rival in a back-and-forth matchup rife with offensive flair. However, Alex Limoges netted the game winner three minutes into overtime to give the Bears an additional standings point over the Penguins.

How Did the Game Go?

Hershey’s Joe Snively opened the scoring 84 seconds into the game. A big bounce off the boards behind the Penguins’ net ricocheted right to Snively, who quickly fired the puck across the goal line. Fortunately for the Penguins, Valtteri Puustinen provided a response with a blazing wrist shot midway through the frame.

Jimmy Huntington found the back of the net at 13:57 of the first period, sending Hershey to the intermission with a 2-1 lead.

Those same boards that plagued the Penguins in the first period helped them tie things up, 2-2, 31 seconds into the second period. Jansen Harkins collected a wide shot from Rem Pitlick and deposited it behind Bears goalie Hunter Shepard.

Six minutes later, while on the power play, Harkins took a cross-ice pass from Puustinen and rifled it past Shepard, giving the Penguins a 3-2 lead. Harkins’ second goal of the evening also gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a power-play marker in nine of its last 10 games.

How Did the Game End?

Huntington scored again when he threw a puck towards the crease that hit a skate and bounded behind Penguins netminder Joel Blomqvist. Vincent Iorio followed suit by tallying another go-ahead goal for Hershey, putting the Bears ahead 4-3 at 10:55 of the second stanza.
