The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority released its fiscal third-quarter earnings report, which detailed a slight decrease in overall net revenue. 

Although casino activity was down, strong non-gaming growth driven by food, beverage, entertainment and hotel revenue helped offset the gaming revenue drop. In addition, Mohegan’s online casino segment continues to improve from quarter to quarter. 

Mohegan Q3 financial highlights

For the third quarter, which ended June 30, Mohegan reported net revenue of $415.4 million, down 0.4% compared to the same period last year. 

In a press release,Mohegan CEO Raymond Pineault said:

“Our consolidated Adjusted EBITDA of $108.7 million was the third highest quarterly total in our 26-year history, while the prior-year comparable quarter was the highest to date.”

Pineault continued by saying Mohegan continues to see substantial results from its digital segment and is focused on growing that line of business.

Mohegan’s financial revenue from Q3-2023 increased significantly from Q2 when it reported $405.8 million in net revenue.

• Mohegan Sun: $230.6 million, down 2.5%
• Mohegan Pennsylvania: $65.2 million, down 2.3%
• Niagara Resorts: $81.1 million, up 1.8%
• Mohegan Digital: $17 million, up 56.6%

• Mohegan Sun: $225.9 million, up 4.8%
• Mohegan Pennsylvania: $63.2 million, up 1.7%
• Niagara Resorts: $70.8 million, up 35%
• Mohegan Digital: $22.7 million, up 283.9%

• Mohegan Pennsylvania: $59.8 million

Carol Anderson, Chief Financial Officer of Mohegan, also noted: “Our Adjusted EBITDA margin of 26.2% was 268 basis points favorable compared with our pre-COVID-19 third quarter of fiscal 2019 and 262 basis points unfavorable compared with the prior-year period.”

Hey high rollers of the Northeast, you really want to ball? How about driving away from the casino with a brand-new Tesla to carry your fat wallet away? It’s going to be possible at Mohegan Sun soon.

Connecticut’s National Treasure Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville has just announced that they are in the process of opening up the very first Tesla Sales & Delivery Center in Connecticut to operate on Sovereign Tribal land. The Tesla EV showroom is slated to open sometime in the Fall of 2023, and will be located across from Todd English’s Tuscany Restaurant in the Shops at Mohegan Sun. Vehicle delivery will take place at the Sky Tower Valet, and they will be offering test drives around the resort, and will also be accepting Mohegan Sun’s loyalty program Momentum points towards the purchase of a vehicle.

Mohegan Sun has also announced that this partnership with Tesla will breed into it’s workforce development program, and provide opportunities to learn skills that may pave the way to more Musk money.

This is great news for Tesla and Mohegan Sun, under Connecticut law, vehivcles can only be purchased from independent car dealers, a business practice soundly rejected by Tesla. Tesla does operate it’s own dealership, there’s one one of them in Connecticut, it’s in Milford at 881 Boston Post Road.

If only my parents were still around, they spent every weekend at mohegan, laughing and smoking their cigs, building up those points. I can just picture them cruising along Rt. 2 in a new Model 3.

Tesla is going to use the loophole of operating on tribal land to finally operate in Connecticut, a state that has been aggressively blocking Tesla from operating sales, delivery, and service centers for years.

There are a few states in the US that have laws prohibiting direct sales of electric vehicles to the public without going through third-party dealerships.

These bans come from old laws that were meant to protect car dealers from their own automakers supplying the vehicles.

The idea is that automakers couldn’t open a company-owned store next to a third-party dealer after they have made the investment to sell and service their cars. It would be unfair competition.

Now, however, car dealerships are using those old laws to prevent automakers that never had deals with third-party franchise dealers, like Tesla, from selling their vehicles to the public, even though it’s fair competition. Tesla has been fighting those laws in many states with some success, but there are still a few states that are abusing these laws.

Connecticut has been one of them.

Tesla has made several different efforts to support its customers in the state, but it has found strong opposition from the legislation and the Connecticut Automotive Retailers Association (CARA), which finances state legislators.

At one point, Tesla opened a “gallery” in Connecticut. In that gallery, Tesla claimed that it didn’t have sales operations and would only educate the public. The auto dealer association managed to have Tesla’s “gallery” shut down through an effort that involved sending “secret shoppers” to try to make Tesla staff talk about sales and shut down the gallery.

Tesla is working around antiquated dealership laws again, this time in Connecticut. Mohegan Sun, a popular casino and resort, has announced the opening of a Tesla Sales, Service, and Delivery Center later this year, marking a “first-of-its-kind venture” in the state operating on Sovereign Tribal land.

For years Tesla has been working to overturn legislation in Connecticut that only allows vehicles to be delivered to customers through a third-party dealership. This poses a problem for Tesla since they sell their cars directly to consumers, something that simplifies the buying process and avoids the need for a middle man, and all of the strings that come attached with that business model, but it also means customers can’t take delivery within the state.

Teslas most recent attempt to overturn the law was last year, and like it’s previous attempts, the bill failed to pass. Now Tesla is taking matters into their own hands, and opening a delivery center on tribal land.

“We’re really excited about this new Tesla EV Showroom opening this fall at Mohegan Sun. UNCASVILLE – Tesla is opening a sales and showroom at Mohegan Sun, setting up shop on the Mohegan Tribe’s sovereign land to sidestep a Connecticut law preventing direct-to-consumer auto sales.

The Tesla Sales and Delivery Center will open this fall at The Shops at Mohegan Sun, in a first-floor storefront formerly occupied by a Victoria’s Secret store, the casino announced on Wednesday.

Customers will be able to see and buy Tesla vehicles at the casino storefront. And the cars will be delivered at Mohegan Sun’s Sky Tower valet.

“This endeavor with Tesla marks an  electrifying milestone in Mohegan Sun’s commitment to fostering impactful relationships, promoting  environmental sustainability and offering cutting-edge experiences for our millions of annual guests, each of which are core goals of Mohegan Sun and the Mohegan Tribe,” Mohegan Sun President and General Manager Jeff Hamilton said in a news release.

In its release, Mohegan Sun touted the storefront as a “first-of-its-kind venture in Connecticut with the premiere Sales & Delivery center operating on Sovereign Tribal land.”

Tesla has been lobbying unsuccessfully for years to get Connecticut lawmakers to legalize direct-to-consumer sales of its electric vehicles. Electric-only vehicle manufacturers including Rivian and Tesla have used a direct sales model instead of the dealership model of other auto companies.

The annual “Tesla bill” regularly faces opposition from Connecticut’s car dealers who argue that the carve-out would give electric manufacturers an unfair advantage in the market.

The co-chairs of the legislature’s Transportation Committee State Rep. Roland Lemar, D-New Haven, and State Sen. Christine Cohen, D-Guilford, were generally supportive of the move in comments to CT Examiner.

Gamblers will soon be able to take a break from the slots to admire and buy the latest models of Tesla electric vehicles at a dealership and showroom set to open this fall at Mohegan Sun, the casino announced Wednesday.

The new Tesla Sales & Delivery Center will be located in The Shops at Mohegan Sun across from Todd English’s Tuscany restaurant. Prospective buyers can use casino loyalty points to buy a Tesla and test drive the cars on Mohegan Sun’s property.

Located on sovereign tribal land, Mohegan Sun will be the first location in Connecticut that you can directly buy a Tesla: Once again this year the state legislature failed to put forward a bill to allow Tesla and other electric-vehicle manufacturers to sell directly to customers. 

On non-tribal land in the state, electric car-makers instead must open franchised dealerships.

Mohegan Sun officials said the new Tesla outlet will employ and train Mohegan Tribal members and casino employees, preparing them for jobs at the carmaker.
