Massive Sneaker Convention Coming to Connecticut This Summer

Have you watched the movie ‘Air’ on Prime yet? It’s the story about how Nike got Michael Jordan to sign with their company, and the creation of the first Air Jordan sneaker, it’s fascinating. So much that I want a pair of Nike Air Jordan 2’s again. I had a pair in 1986, but I threw them out. Our chance to redeem ourselves is coming to Connecticut in June.

I just received an update from Mohegan Sun that announced that a big sneaker convention called ‘The Sneakerhead Invasion’ is coming to the Earth Expo Center at Mohegan Sun on Sunday June 4, 2023. It’s being billed as Connecticut’s biggest sneaker convention, and with 125,000 square feet of space, Earth Expo has the room for plenty of vendors. What can you expect? Rare classics, 200+ vendors, streetwear and collectibles, and some hot new and upcoming releases to check out.

Tickets are interesting too, both General and VIP tickets will allow you to bring in sneakers into the event to try to sell or trade. The General Admission tickets goes for $30, and it allows you to bring up to 3 pairs of sneakers into the event to try to sell. VIP tickets are $40, and for the extra $10 you’ll be able to bring in as many sneakers that you can carry, through a special entry line. The promoters have also announced reduced ticket prices for high school students – $15 (With your school ID), and children under 10 with a parent will be admitted for free.

I’ve only kept one pair of sneakers longer than 5 years, so if you have much more patience and room than I do, you could walk out of Mohegan Sun with some money that didn’t come from a slot or table game.

Man whose body was found partially buried in Mohegan Park had been shot to death, Norwich police say

NORWICH — Local police say the death of an unidentified man whose body was found partially buried in Mohegan Park over the weekend has been ruled a homicide.

Police said the man was Black or Hispanic and between the ages of 35 and 50. His remains had been autopsied as of Monday evening, police said.

The body was discovered by a passerby walking through Mohegan Park Sunday afternoon. Just before 4:15 p.m. Sunday, the passerby “noticed something protruding from the ground,” a Norwich police spokesperson said.

“Believing that it might be a person, he called the Norwich Police Department to report his findings,” Lt. Anthony Gomes said Monday.

Gomes said responding patrol officers discovered the person’s body in a shallow grave. He had been fatally shot, Gomes said. Evidence located at the scene indicated the killing did not occur inside the park and represented a “targeted attack” on the victim, Gomes said.

The man stood approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighed 150 to 160 pounds and had black hair styled in box braids, according to Gomes. He was also missing his top four front teeth and had a goatee or short beard, Gomes said.

No description of the clothing he was wearing at the time of his death was available, according to Gomes.

The investigation is ongoing, Gomes said.

Anyone with information can contact lead Detective Ken Wright at 860-886-5561, ext. 3159, or the department tip line at 860-886-5561 and select option number 4.

Police: Man found in shallow grave at Mohegan Park in Norwich a homicide victim

NORWICH ― An unidentified man whose body was found partially buried in a shallow grave at a Norwich park was the victim of a homicide, police said

Norwich police said a pedestrian at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Sunday noticed “something” protruding from the ground at Mohegan Park that he believed was a person. Patrol officers verified it was a deceased individual and an autopsy determined the cause of death as a gunshot wound.

Police on Monday afternoon said evidence suggests the victim, a Black or Hispanic man between the ages of 35-50, was not murdered at the park. The incident appears to be the result of a targeted attack on the victim, police said.

The victim is described as being approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing between 150-160 pounds with black hair/box braids and a goatee or short beard. The deceased was missing his top four front teeth, police said.

More: At 15, he brutally killed a Norwich teacher and her son. Reform gave him a parole hearing.

There was no clothing description and the man’s identity is still unknown.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Norwich police Detective Ken Wright at (860) 886-5561, ext. 3159 or by calling the department’s tip-line at (860) 886-5561, ext. 4.

Pennsylvania Issues $150K In Gambling Fines

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board approved three consent agreements presented by the state’s Office of Enforcement Counsel during its recent public meeting regarding violations that occurred at three casinos. Total fines levied were nearly $150,000.

Mount Airy #1, LLC, the operator of Mount Airy Casino Resort, was fined $120,000 for failure to timely submit internal audit plans. Downs Racing, L.P., operator of Mohegan Pennsylvania casino, received a fine of $20,000 for two incidents in which supervisory employees worked without the proper Board-issued permit. Sugarhouse HSP Gaming, L.P., operator of Rivers Casino Philadelphia, was hit with a $7,500 fine for not properly notifying its security and surveillance staff along with law enforcement about an alleged cheating incident at a table game involving marked cards.

The Board also acted on petitions to ban three adults from all casinos in the state for leaving a total of six children unattended to engage in gaming activities:

A male patron was placed on the Involuntary Exclusion List after leaving three children, ages 3, 8, and 10, unattended in a vehicle in the Mohegan Pennsylvania casino parking lot while he wagered at the sportsbook.

A female patron was placed on the Involuntary Exclusion List after leaving two children, ages 2 and 5, unattended in the food court at Valley Forge Casino Resort to wager at the sportsbook, and later once again left the children unattended in a vehicle in the casino’s parking lot but was approached by security before she was able to gamble.

Another female gambler was placed on the Involuntary Exclusion List after leaving her 13-year-old child unattended in a vehicle at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course while she cashed a check and gambled on slot machines.
