UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Breanna Stewart scored 24 points and Jonquel Jones added 14 points and 11 rebounds in her return to Connecticut as the New York Liberty beat the Sun 89-81 on Tuesday night.

The victory moved the Liberty into a tie with Connecticut atop the Commissioner Cup standings in the Eastern Conference. Each team has one game left although New York has the tiebreaker having swept the two games against the Sun.

Las Vegas has nearly wrapped up the Western Conference slot, sitting at 6-0.

Kelsey Plum scored 25 points and A’ja Wilson added 23 points and 12 rebounds to help the Las Vegas Aces rout the Connecticut Sun 102-84 in a matchup of the top teams in the WNBA.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. ― Breanna Stewart, returning to where she made her name as one of the most decorated women’s players at the University of Connecticut, scored a game-high 24 points on 11-for-17 shooting and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the New York Liberty to an 89-81 WNBA victory over the host Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Courtney Vandersloot added 17 points for the Liberty (10-3) while former Sun player Jonquel Jones added 14 points and 11 rebounds against her former team.

DiJonai Carrington came off the bench to lead the Sun (12-4) with a career-high 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting, hitting all three of her 3-point attempts. Alyssa Thomas (11 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) recorded her fifth career double-double ― and third in seven days ― and capped a 13-0 run that rallied the Sun to an 81-80 lead when she converted a foul-inducing layup with 4:18 left.

The Sun, however, were unable to hold onto that slim margin after going scoreless in the final 3:55 of the game.

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Developing younger harness racing pacers had a $16,000 feature race for each sex conducted over off going on Tuesday (June 27) afternoon at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania.

The males were led by the Stay Hungry sophomore gelding Im Hungry, a three-quarter brother to millionaire Beach Glass, a PA Stallion Series winner, and now triumphant in three consecutive starts after a 1:51.4 mile over a “sloppy” oval.

The track’s leading driver, Matt Kakaley, tucked in third with the winner as Oak Grove shipper Bay City led the field past the quarter in :27.2, then brushed to command in front of the stands and reached the half in :56.3 and the three-quarters in 1:24.3.

Bay City came out of the pocket to give good chase down the stretch in the :27.1 kicker, but he came up a neck shy of Im Hungry, who is trained by Travis Alexander and owned by Brent McGrath of Somebeachsomewhere fame.

IM HUNGRY REPLAY

The same basic storyline was followed in the section for distaffs, with the Lazarus N three-year-old filly Anna’s Wish equaling her mark of 1:52.2 over a surface upgraded to “good” before the race. Tyler Buter had a post inside all the main leavers and put them all in behind early, enabling him to guide his filly through fractions of :27.2, :57, and 1:24.1.

Sweet Home swung wide from second-over in the stretch and was doing nicely late, but Anna’s Wish was able to keep that one at bay by a half-length for trainer Jenn Bongiorno and owners Robert Weinstein and Jordon Sklut.

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Prominent Pocono barns produced sweeps in the harness racing action for each sex of two-year-old pacers during the Wednesday (June 21) early session at The Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania.

Travis Alexander sent out the three winners in the colt division, the fastest of whom was the Huntsville – Apple Delight colt Avenger Force, who went wire-to-wire in 1:55.3, with back fractions of :56.4 – :27. Matt Kakaley drove the colt for Fiddler’s Creek Stables LLC. Jim Pantaleano drove the other two winners for the barn: the American Ideal – Arielle Lynn colt Howlenthehills, home in 1:55.4, and the Huntsville – Queen Of Darkness colt Vampire Blue Chip, a winner in 1:56.4.

On the pacing filly side, driver Marcus Miller, trainer/father Erv Miller, and owner Douglas Overhiser had a sweep of the two cuts. The faster was the Sweet Lou – Some Fancy Filly miss Asweetbeachhere, who made an early move and dashed home first in 1:55 – :56.4 – :27.2; Overhiser shares with David Prushnok the other Miller winner, the Stay Hungry – Mother Of Art distaff Shezahungrygigi, winning her second straight start, here in 1:56.2.

D. R. Ackerman owns, trains, and drives the fastest trotting male winner, Mr Grant, an altered son of Tactical Landing – Flos Conch Shack, who recorded his second win, here in 1:59 – :57.3 – :28.1. Driver Matt Kakaley and trainer Jenny Melander were the braintrust behind the two other winners in this section: Going Green (Greenshoe – Majestic Lexi, 2:00.1) and Nottingham (E L Titan – Lady Marian, 2:01).

As part of its bankruptcy proceedings, the Diocese of Norwich has sold 113.19 acres of property to the Mohegan Tribe, located at 1593 Route 32, Montville. The property includes the St. Bernard School and was approved by Judge James J. Tancredi of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Hartford.

In addition to the $6,550,000 sale price, the bid terms include an initial 20-year lease of the property to St. Bernard School, which under the terms of the bid will remain open.

“This is a great result for all the parties involved. The Diocese receives the funds to compensate alleged sexual abuse survivors and the St. Bernard School remains open to serve the needs of students and families,” said Louis DeLucia, attorney for the Diocese and a partner at Ice Miller. “This is a big step toward resolving claims against the Diocese as we continue to work diligently to reach consensus on a chapter 11 plan of reorganization.”

The Court granted a waiver of the 14-day stay period under U.S. Bankruptcy Rules and the sale closed on June 21 following entry of the Sale Order.

“The Committee of Unsecured Creditors recognizes and appreciates that the $6.55 million paid by the Mohegan Tribe is a substantial and appropriate amount,” said Stephen M. Kindseth of Zeisler & Zeisler, P.C., counsel for the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors. “We anticipate that the net proceeds of this sale will constitute an important component of the entire settlement fund established through the Norwich Diocese’s bankruptcy case for the benefit of survivors of sexual abuse.”
