BOXSCORE: WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins lost to the Hershey Bears in overtime, 5-4, on Wednesday night at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (6-5-2-0) battled tooth-and-nail with its bitter rival in a back-and-forth matchup rife with offensive flair. However, Alex Limoges netted the game winner three minutes into overtime to give the Bears an additional standings point over the Penguins.

How Did the Game Go?

Hershey’s Joe Snively opened the scoring 84 seconds into the game. A big bounce off the boards behind the Penguins’ net ricocheted right to Snively, who quickly fired the puck across the goal line. Fortunately for the Penguins, Valtteri Puustinen provided a response with a blazing wrist shot midway through the frame.

Jimmy Huntington found the back of the net at 13:57 of the first period, sending Hershey to the intermission with a 2-1 lead.

Those same boards that plagued the Penguins in the first period helped them tie things up, 2-2, 31 seconds into the second period. Jansen Harkins collected a wide shot from Rem Pitlick and deposited it behind Bears goalie Hunter Shepard.

Six minutes later, while on the power play, Harkins took a cross-ice pass from Puustinen and rifled it past Shepard, giving the Penguins a 3-2 lead. Harkins’ second goal of the evening also gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a power-play marker in nine of its last 10 games.

How Did the Game End?

Huntington scored again when he threw a puck towards the crease that hit a skate and bounded behind Penguins netminder Joel Blomqvist. Vincent Iorio followed suit by tallying another go-ahead goal for Hershey, putting the Bears ahead 4-3 at 10:55 of the second stanza.

For the ninth year in a row, the Mohegan Sun Casino hosted a Vets Rock event on Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

The event celebrates active duty military and veterans, and offers a day of valuable programs and resources.

“Vets Rock is focused on enhancing the lives of our service members through a job fair, veteran service organizations, and other resources,” reads a press release.

The resource fair, held in the Sky Convention Center, was preceded by an opening ceremony hosted by Channel 8 meteorologist Gil Simmons, himself a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

As they waited for the ceremony to begin, Norwich-based veterans Danny Melton (U.S. Navy) and Russell Caudill (U.S. Army and CT Army National Guard) talked about their reasons for attending.

“I just wanted to see what they have to offer,” said Melton.

Caudill’s motive was more specific. He had come to the event to seek out information about free tuition available to Connecticut wartime veterans. He said that Connecticut is one of only three states to offer this type of assistance.

“I plan to go to school in January. There will be people who can help you get funding for veterans,” said Caudill.

Caudill said that wartime veterans in Connecticut are eligible for 50% free tuition if attending a state school part time, and 100% free…

WILKES-BARRE — Former Philadelphia professional football star, Brian Westbrook, is set to make a special appearance at The Hive Taphouse during The Rematch Watch Party at Mohegan Pennsylvania.

On Monday, November 20, guests of “The Rematch Watch Party” can enjoy drink specials, half-priced appetizers and special giveaways while watching the Philadelphia vs. Kansas City game on the big screen.

Born on Dec. 29, 1944 in the Bronx, Joanne was the daughter of a fish monger and homemaker. Her childhood was one surrounded by cousins and big Sunday dinners at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Her parent’s instilled in her a strong faith in God and a solid work ethic. She attended Catholic schools and graduated from Saint Barnabas High School in Yonkers in 1962.

Joanne enrolled in Hunter College to study economics and there she met her husband Roger Rini. They were married in 1965 and had three sons, David, Anthony, and Christopher before she graduated from Hunter College in 1972. She earned a master’s degree in public administration from Pace University in 1994.

Joanne and Roger left the Bronx in 1970 and moved to Mohegan Lake, where they raised their sons. Her career— being a switch board operator at Hudson Electric in Manhattan to an intake coordinator at Bronx Lebanon Hospital to the bookkeeper at Mylen Stairs—was an important part of her identity. She also was a dedicated Avon Lady, hosted numerous Tupperware parties, and was the part-time bookkeeper for her husband’s businesses.

Joanne was also involved in the lives of her kids as a scout leader, basketball coach, and CCD teacher. She taught them many lessons, including that working hard was essential to success in life. She developed a large friend group in Mohegan and enjoyed bowling and tennis.

In the last 15 years she lost her Dad, Mom, brother Joseph, and husband, and these losses took a great toll on her. After some decline in health, she left New York in 2019 for Winston Salem, NC to be closer to her son Christopher. She had great care over those last four years, most notably from Brandon Buck who brought her many happy days of ice cream runs…

With one of WWE’s traditional “big four” pay-per-views on the horizon, the promotion used Monday night’s edition of Raw to put in work to build toward in Chicago on Nov. 25. Among those matches that are now set is a War Games match featuring most of Raw’s top stars.

A surprise world heavyweight championship match between champ Seth Rollins and challenger Sami Zayn proved to be just one part of a story that led to the two men teaming with Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso against Judgment Day and JD McDonagh inside the double cage at Survivor Series.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

War Games locked in for Survivor Series

Seth Rollins opened the show, celebrating retaining the world heavyweight championship by beating Drew McIntyre at Crown Jewel. Rollins then called Sami Zayn out to celebrate with him since Zayn prevented Damian Priest from cashing in the Money in the Bank contract after that match. Rollins told Zayn that he visited Adam Pearce and Zayn could have a title shot at any time of his choosing. Zayn initially said he didn’t want to face a champion who was compromised by injury, but Rollins said veterans like them were never 100%, but always gave 100%. Zayn then accepted, saying there was no better time or place than later in the night.

World Heavyweight Championship — Seth Rollins (c) def. Sami Zayn via pinfall with a roll-up. Zayn tried to attack Rollins’ compromised back. That included a match-ending sequence where Zayn locked in a lion tamer and transitioned to a Boston crab. A former WWE star was spotted backstage at tonight’s (November 6) episode of WWE Raw from Mohegan Sun Arena.

In a hilarious clip shared online by WWE’s own social media account, one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green bumped into a familiar face backstage.

Gene Snitsky appears, delivering an iteration of his classic catchphrase “It wasn’t my fault”, to which Green stomps away in a huff.

Tonight’s WWE Raw was coming from Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre Township, Pennsylvania which is the home state of Snitsky.

On Raw, Green and her co-champ Piper Niven made an attempt at capturing singles gold when they were both in a women’s battle royal to determine who would get a shot at Rhea Ripley’s WWE Women’s World Championship at Survivor Series.

The women competing in the match were:

Ivy Nile, Indi Hartwell, Maxxine Dupri, Nikki Cross, Piper Niven,

Chelsea Green, Katana Chance, Kayden Carter, Tegan Nox, Nia Jax,

Natalya, Raquel Rodriguez, Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler.

The battle royal was eventually won by Zoey Stark who last eliminated Shayna Baszler, so it’ll be Rhea Ripley defending against Stark at Survivor Series on November 25.

Finn Balor and Damian Priest defeated The New Day duo of Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston during the latest episode of WWE RAW.

The two teams were involved in a backstage confrontation last week. Hence, a tag team match was made official for this week’s show as The Judgment Day looked to assert their dominance in the tag team division.

The 12-time tag team champions took early control of the bout as they isolated Balor. At one point, Kingston fought out of a double team as Priest collided with Balor by mistake.

The New Day was able to take advantage as Woods hit the diving elbow on Balor. But it wasn’t meant to be, as Priest was there to save the day. He then drove Kingston into the announce table to take him out.

In the closing stages of the match, Woods tried to rally two-on-one, but it was to no avail. Senor Money in the Bank executed the South of Heaven, which was followed by the Coup de Grace by Balor to secure an impressive win.

It will be interesting to see what’s next for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.
