Kevin Parker brought Tame Impala‘s Slow Rush Tour to Uncasville, CT on Saturday for a show at Mohegan Sun Arena. Junglepussy got the show started and pumped up the crowd with a rap set that included her most well-known song “Trader Joe”. She’s undoubtedly a great entertainer, full of raw, unapologetic emotion and lyrics. While it certainly seemed like an odd pairing at first, the energy was right.
By the time Parker and his touring band hit the stage for their first-ever show in Connecticut, the 7,000-plus fans in attendance were ready to explode. Despite being an almost sold-out arena, it felt about as intimate a setting to catch Tame Impala as you’ll find anymore when compared to other big-city arenas the Australian psych-rockers are hitting.

The setlist remained unchanged from his entire tour, leading off with “One More Year”, the dancy jam to set the energy, before transitioning into the disco-infused “Borderline” and then psychedelic, bass-infused “Nangs”. By the time Tame Impala’s trademark confetti and lasers were on full display, every fan young and old was up and dancing. Parker certainly isn’t the most animated performer, but his music and production carry him to the very top of today’s touring acts.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Laval Rocket, 6-2, during the team’s annual Star Wars Night at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
No Jedi mind tricks were necessary for rookie Sam Poulin to score the first hat trick of his career. His three goals on Saturday night helped secure the win for his club and improve Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to 24-23-4-4.
It didn’t take long for the two teams to switch the offense into hyperdrive. Poulin tallied his first of the night with a wicked shot on the rush at 1:14 of the opening frame. However, the Rocket responded with a goal by Joël Teasdale 26 seconds later.
Poulin found twine again four minutes into regulation, and Chris Bigras lifted the Penguins to a 3-1 lead at 12:12 of the first period.
After a quiet second stanza, things opened up again in the third. Alex Nylander notched a power-play goal less than two minutes into the final frame, putting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ahead, 4-1.
Now turned to the Dark Side, former Penguin Jean-Sébastien Dea cut the Rocket’s deficit back down to two by setting up Raphaël Harvey-Pinard for a backdoor tap-in during a four-on-three man advantage. But this time it was the Penguins’ turn to strike back in swift fashion. Félix Robert converted on a breakaway 1:12 after Harvey-Pinard’s power-play goal.
Poulin rounded out the scoring and completed the hat trick with an empty-net goal with 1:57 left in regulation.
Goaltender Louis Domingue turned in a stellar performance for the Penguins, as he made 37 saves to earn the victory.
L-P Guindon started the game in net for Laval, but was pulled after allowing three goals on six shots faced. Kevin Poulin steered away 20 of the 22 shots he…

The run, which has been dubbed the “Dreams in Gold Tour,” is a big look for the still-rising young rockers, who found quick success on the strength of their Black Smoke Rising EP, which was released in 2017 and contained the huge hit “Highway Tune.”
Up first are two stadium dates supporting Metallica, after which Greta Van Fleet will embark on a lengthy string of headlining stops with a number of different opening acts, which includes The Pretty Reckless, Hannah Wicklund, Houndmouth, Robert Finley, Durand Jones & The Indications, Crown Lands and Fruit Bats, each at various stops as designated through different symbols on the tour dates listed further down the page. Grammy-winning artist Justin Bieber comes back to Connecticut for his sold out Justice World Tour at Mohegan Sun on June 18.
This is the “Ghost” singer’s first time performing at the Mohegan Sun Arena, but not his first time in the state.
“Our venue has had many firsts and this is one that we were always looking forward to,” said Tom Cantone, President of Sports and Entertainment at Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment.

February 26, 2022 is a day I will remember for the rest of my life. The last time I was this excited to see a band for the first time was for Phish in June 2012. Just over two years since the 1/25/20 “Hot Tea” earwormed me and I dove into the Goose rabbit hole, I was finally able to see them live – and not just any show. The eighth annual Goosemas celebration at and their first ever show in an arena, at Mohegan Sun.
Mohegan Sun was absolutely bursting at the seams from the beginning of the day. I spent most of the afternoon at the PhanArt “The Hometown Flodown” show (shoutout to the El Goose Times and GrooveSafe crew) before heading into the venue a little before showtime. I was stationed with one of my Always Almost There co-hosts Neal on the floor Peter side.
Goosemas VIII was not about massive jams. It was about a single statement: this band is built for arena rock.
Three sets with nary a ballad, two debuts, and a distinct shift away from the expected songs (I hit just two of my Fantasy Goose picks that were largely comprised of longtime setlist staples). Percussionist Jeff Arevalo even remarked how he was glad they had to reschedule Goosemas from December – this gave the band the opportunity to incorporate many of their more recent songwriting efforts that had yet to be debuted in 2021.
The lights dropped around 8:15 and thousands of people simultaneously yelled “GOOOOOOOSE!”. The band walked on stage and started into holiday classic “Linus and Lucy,” Peter’s special grand piano shining from the get-go. Ripping a hot “Yeti” next, the energy in the venue seemed to grow with each note as I basked in finally hearing one…
UNCASVILLE — Heading into Tuesday’s ECC Division II tournament final, Stonington boys basketball coach Jay Wosencroft had acknowledged that defense was not the master key to the Bears’ near-perfect run through the conference.
The Bears allowed too many points for his liking in a number of victories and missed opportunities to upset higher-division powers New London and St. Bernard because of defensive lapses in an otherwise impressive season.
But with 20 seconds left in the D-II final against Windham, and with his Bears clinging to a three-point lead, Wosencroft trusted his senior-laden team to play defense to secure the program’s first ECC tourney championship.
And it did just that. Windham missed 3-point attempts with five and one second left, and top-seeded Stonington emerged with a 65-62 victory — its 15th in a row — in front of about 1,690 at Mohegan Sun Arena.
With three fouls to give before No. 2 Windham would reach the one-and-one bonus, conventional strategy called for fouls to delay an opponent’s offensive attack and prevent a potential tying 3-pointer. Wosencroft, however, instructed his players not to foul and instead play tight defense. The strategy worked.
“We talked about giving fouls, we’ve practiced those late-game situations, but I wasn’t comfortable with us deliberately fouling,” he said. “I wanted us to play tough defense and see what happened.”
Windham’s top two shooters, Travis Mangual and Malcolm Hunter, missed game-tying 3s. Yes, defense evidently does win championships.
It was a well-earned championship for the Bears (19-3), their first in three finals appearances after losing in 2011 and 2019.
The young Whippets (16-7) showed up playing fast and confident. Paced by Mangual, their lead guard, Windham used a 14-0 run to lead 25-13 after one quarter. Mangual already had 11 points. Stonington allowed a number of offensive rebounds, turned the…
The CIAC boys basketball state tournament is back for the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with games slated to start Monday with first-round games in Division II and IV and conclude March 19-20 at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Can Bristol Central and UConn men’s basketball recruit Donovan Clingan win the school’s first title since 1990? How far will the other top CCC teams — Northwest Catholic, Windsor, East Catholic and Conard — go? And can Cromwell win its first title since 2018?
Here is a quick breakdown of the divisions.
Division I
This tells you what you need to know about Division I: Eighth-seeded East Catholic (16-6) and ninth-seeded Farmington, both excellent CCC teams, will play each other on March 10 at East Catholic. In 2019, East Catholic was the Division I state champion, and Farmington won the Division III title. The two teams played each other not long ago with Farmington (15-6) beating East Catholic 85-76 on Feb. 18. East Catholic played a tough schedule. Four of the Eagles’ losses were to Windsor in overtime, Northwest Catholic by three points, Mater Dei (California) and Bristol Central. Farmington had to play Northwest Catholic twice (and lost twice).
Windsor, another top team that advanced to the CCC semifinals before losing to Bristol Central, is the sixth seed. The Warriors (18-4) will face the winner of the Manchester vs. Glastonbury game in the second round. If Windsor gets past the second round, the Warriors could face third-seeded Ridgefield, which beat Windsor 65-62 on Jan. 22.
Division II
Can anybody stop top-seeded Bristol Central and Clingan, its 7-foot-2 star? So far, no one has been able to. Windsor, one of the best teams in the state, had two shots at the Rams and came up short both times, including a 57-37 loss in the CCC tournament semifinal…
U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland visited Connecticut Wednesday, the day after President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address, toured parts of the state and met with members of the Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation to discuss investments in Tribal communities.
She met with leaders from the Mohegan Tribe and toured the Tantaquidgeon Museum and later traveled to Mashantucket to tour the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and meet with Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Tribal Council members, youth leaders, and community members about the issues impacting the community, according to the U.S. Department of the Interior.
I’m excited to head to Connecticut to meet with Tribal leaders and share the President’s vision for the year ahead as we continue to implement the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and make historic investments in Tribal communities. https://t.co/x0Hn4QNHRz
— Secretary Deb Haaland (@SecDebHaaland) March 2, 2022
“Today it was an incredible honor for our Tribal Council, Elders Council, and Youth Council to welcome to Mashantucket the first Native American woman to ever serve as U.S. Secretary of Interior, Deb Haaland. A longtime friend of Mashantucket, Secretary Haaland is the first sitting Secretary of Interior to ever visit our reservation. There was no better way to kick off Women’s History Month than hosting a woman who has broken so many barriers and has an unparalleled commitment to this country and all Native Americans,” a statement from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation says.
Haaland, Gov. Ned Lamont, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Martha Williams visited the Stewart B. Mckinney National Wildlife Refuge in Westbrook while she was here.
The Department of the Interior said the infrastructure law would help strengthen Tribal economies, bolster community resilience, replace aging infrastructure, expand access to clean drinking water, and ensure that everyone has access to…
