Nanticoke police charge man with placing firearm in pregnant woman’s mouth

Aug. 4—NANTICOKE — A Nanticoke man facing allegations he aimed a handgun at a Nanticoke police officer and two child caseworkers with Luzerne County Children and Youth Services was charged Wednesday with placing a firearm in a pregnant woman’s mouth.

Nanticoke police filed felony assault charges against Cory Gonzalez Crudop, 40, after investigating the woman’s claims.

The woman reported, according to court records, Crudop threw a car battery through the windshield of her vehicle that was occupied by two children on July 12. She ran into her residence on Hill Street in an attempt to hide a firearm from Crudop, court records say.

Crudop chased after the woman and managed to get his hands on the firearm he allegedly placed in the woman’s mouth threatening to kill her and punched her in her stomach. Police said the woman is pregnant.

Crudop was arraigned by District Judge Thomas F. Malloy Sr. in Luzerne County Central Court on two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment, and one count each of aggravated assault of an unborn child, criminal mischief and harassment. Malloy remanded Crudop to the county correctional facility without bail deeming him a flight risk.

Crudop has been jailed since his arrest by Nanticoke police on July 14 following an incident at the Hill Street residence.

Police assisted two child caseworkers with a welfare check on the two children at the residence since the children’s mother was living with Crudop.

The welfare check was performed due to the July 12 incident.

When officers knocked on the door, the woman initially refused to allow them inside. She instead, suggested she bring the children outside.

Child caseworkers wanted to inspect the interior of the house for safety and to determine if Crudop was inside.

The mother relented and allowed police and caseworkers inside but stood and blocked the basement door,…

Nanticoke man charged with shooting school windows

LEHMAN TWP. — A Nanticoke man facing drug driving charges was arraigned Monday afternoon on allegations he shot out windows at Lake Lehman High School last week.

Lehman Township police in court records say they have a cell phone recording of Eugene Robert Paisley, 19, discharging rounds that smashed two windows at the high school on July 26.

An arrest warrant was issued Sunday for Paisley as police earlier Monday released a bulletin stating they were searching for Paisley deeming him “armed and dangerous.”

Paisley was arraigned by District Judge James Haggerty in Kingston on two counts each of discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, institutional vandalism and reckless endangerment and one count each of firearms not to be carried without a license and reckless driving. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $40,000 bail.

Court records say the school’s volleyball coach discovered two windows were shot out when he arrived for practice. The coach reported the broken windows to the school’s assistant principal who then contacted police.

Police said they recovered bullet fragments from the scene.

On the same day of the vandalism at the school, state police at Shickshinny investigated a similar incident at a convenience store in Huntington Mills and state police at Tunkhannock had a suspect in custody for a similar incident near Noxen, Wyoming County.

State police at Tunkhannock served a search warrant at a residence in Plains Township where they recovered a Ruger 9mm handgun, court records say.

Troopers learned from their search of the Plains Township residence that a cell phone had a saved recording of Paisley allegedly firing a handgun out of his vehicle toward Lake Lehman High School. The video is time…

Judgment issued in pool payment dispute, couple waits for refund

Jul. 27—NANTICOKE — It was easier for Jim and Lisa Swanberry to put in a new pool than get a refund on the deposit for one they said was never delivered.

The husband and wife from Nanticoke went to court and prevailed with a judgment against Michael Calore and Superior Pools & Spa, ordering him to refund them $1,500 refund plus additional costs they incurred in the civil case.

Calore has not paid, and said Tuesday that the amended order signed by Luzerne County Judge Lesa Gelb on May 13 was not final.

“This is a simple contract dispute,” Calore said.

It’s been anything but simple for the Swanberrys.

Each step of the way has been a challenge, from the complaint filed on March 18, 2021 at the magistrate level, to Calore’s appeal of the judgment against him that sent it to county court, and the May 9 order mistakenly finding in favor of Calore after the case went to arbitration.

“What’s terrible about it is it’s such a process. My wife basically almost got a law degree at this point because no lawyer wants to touch it for what little amount of money it is,” Jim Swanberry said.

“And a lot of people won’t hire a lawyer, so they just quit,” said Lisa Swanberry who pursued the case on her own “pro se.”

The couple didn’t and they’re still trying to figure out how to have the judgment enforced despite Calore’s assertion they breached the contract instead of him.

The case stemmed from the couple’s meeting with Calore at his store on Mundy Street in Wilkes-Barre Township in February and March of last year in search of a new pool. They wanted to purchase a pool to replace the one they’ve had for 23 years and had a tight deadline to install it and purchase wood for the…
