Innovative Crisis Stabilization Center Planned for Bucks County

Bucks County will be the home to a pioneering crisis stabilization center designed to aid residents grappling with behavioral health challenges, including mental illness, substance abuse, and intellectual disabilities.

Recently, officials from Lenape Valley Foundation, Doylestown Health, Bucks County Department of Behavioral Health/Developmental Programs, Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission, Magellan Behavioral Health, and NAMI gathered in Doylestown Township to announce the new crisis stabilization center.

Once operational, the Lenape Valley Foundation, known for their work assisting those with mental health, substance use, and developmental challenges, will run the facility.

The center will have space for phone interventions, mobile crisis services, stabilization units that use the “living room model,” short-term crisis residential treatment facilities, withdraw management, and secured crisis stabilization units, separate areas for kids and adults, welcoming features and decor, and a sallyport for involuntary drop offs.

The facility will be 22,000 square feet and will stand adjacent to the existing Lenape Valley Foundation site on the Doylestown Hospital grounds.

“This new center will bring together the various types of services that an individual in crisis needs, so we can get the full picture of this human being and help them on their journey to recovery,” said Sharon Curran, CEO of the Lenape Valley Foundation. “Even though that just makes sense, that is not the way things work today. And we’ll do it all in a calming, home-like atmosphere in a culture of nonviolence.”

The center, the first of its kind in Pennsylvania, will complement existing crisis unit services and infrastructure.

Currently, local emergency rooms are the primary destination for those facing behavioral health crises in Bucks County.

Jim Brexler, CEO of Doylestown Health, highlighted the challenges of addressing behavioral health issues and people in crisis in bustling ER…

Bartlesville Radio » News » Jeremy Johnson, Cultural Education Director with Delaware Tribe of Indians, on COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Appearing on COMMUNITY CONNECTION, Jeremy Johnson, Cultural Education Director with Delaware Tribe of Indians, said he name by which the tribe calls itself is Lenape [pronounced as if spelled “lun-NAH-pay”], and this name means something like “The People.” It is common for many groups of people around the world to use a name that has a similar translation. Johnson said, “We do not know how long that name has been in use, but related tribes use similar words, so we think it has been in use for many hundreds of years.”

In the short time we shared with Jeremy on the show, we learned a lot. Jeremy said,”It has long been known that the name applied to the Native people who lived along the Delaware River was taken from the title of an Englishman, Lord de la Warr, whose name was Sir Thomas West. He was appointed governor of the English colony at Jamestown, Virginia in 1610. One of his followers, Captain Samuel Argall, once sailed into a majestic bay which he named “de la Warr Bay” in honor of the governor. The river that flowed into the bay was given the same name, and they both were later contracted into Delaware.”

Jeremy said that the tribe has lost a number of things on their forced trek west to Oklahoma. He said, “Many old traditional ways included making things, such as clay pots to cook and store food in; flint knapping to make arrowheads and flint knives; and decorating things with dyed porcupine quills. We also lost knowledge of sea creatures that we would have known on the east coast, and some of our songs and dances. But we have also been able to preserve many things also.”

Mohegan handed US$5 million revolving facility under latest amendment to loan agreement

Print Friendly, PDF & EmailPrint Friendly, PDF & Email

Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (MTGA), the US tribal casino operator currently developing integrated resort Mohegan Inspire in Incheon, South Korea, has said Thursday it has entered into a Third Amendment to a 2021 credit agreement, this time revealing a change of lender and new revolving facility.

The Third Amendment, which follows on from previous amendments in May 2021 and February 2023, sees Fifth Third Bank, National Association replace Bank of America, N.A. as Swingline Lender while also extending to MTGA a revolving line of credit of US$5 million.

The line of credit is to be used for “temporary borrowings from time-to-time”.

MGTA’s Second Amendment to the original credit agreement, announced in February, saw the company granted an extension to the maturity date of its commitments and loans under the facility until 1 November 2025.

Mohegan announced a week later that it had committed to contribute up to KRW185 billion (US$142 million) in additional funding to ensure completion of its Korean integrated resort project. Such funding was completed in September, with the IR schedule to open its non-gaming elements before the end of the year.

Once fully operational in 2024, Mohegan Inspire will boast three hotel towers with a combined 1,200 rooms, an arena, a foreigner-only casino, dining, retail, convention and entertainment options, a year-round indoor water dome experience and an outdoor family park.

It will also become the second integrated resort to open in Incheon after Paradise City – the latter being a joint venture partnership between Korea’s Paradise Co and Japanese gaming firm Sega Sammy Holdings.

H.S. Football: Nanticoke Area’s Zack Fox sets rushing record in rout of rival Hanover Area

HANOVER TWP. — When guys wearing numbers 50 and 53 line up in the backfield in front of one of the best running backs in the area, it’s pretty easy to figure out what’s about to happen.

Despite that, Hanover Area couldn’t stop the inevitable.

With Steve Armstong and Ryan Wiaterowski — aka numbers 50 and 53 — leading the way, senior running back Zack Fox ran into the Nanticoke Area record book in a 54-0 victory in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 game.

Fox became Nanticoke Area’s all-time leading rusher and surpassed Jason Mitkowski, who set the record in 2002. He needed 156 yards and finished with 172 on 10 carries. The record was broken on a 56-yard touchdown dash up the middle that helped build the Trojans’ lead to 45-0 with 4:39 left until halftime.

“I never imagined it, but it feels great,” said Fox, who broke into the starting lineup as a sophomore due to an injury to the starting running back.

Fox also scored two first-quarter touchdowns and three rushing two-point conversions in the first quarter as Nanticoke Area led 24-0 entering the second quarter. Armstrong and Wiaterowski were often leading his runs, sending nearly 500 pounds of fullbacks at the defense.

“That’s one of the best things that we did,” Fox said of the backfield alignment. “We needed extra protection and we can still run stuff with them, too.”

Wiaterowski, who is listed at 275 pounds, rushed for his sixth touchdown of the year in the first quarter.

Nanticoke Area finished the regular season at 6-4 and will play at Crestwood in the District 2 Class 4A quarterfinals next weekend. Hanover Area (3-7) held the fourth and final playoff spot in Class 3A as of late…

Svanstedt Continues Simpson Dominance At Pocono

Trainer Ake Svanstedt ran his winning streak to nine on Wednesday (Oct. 18) in John Simpson Sr. Memorial races this week at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania by winning three out of three races in which his trainees were entered for the third straight day.

There were three Simpson divisions held on Wednesday for both the two-year-old trotting fillies (The Davidia Hanover at $42,970 per split) and the two-year-old pacing fillies (The Razzle Hanover at $35,000 per pop).

Svanstedt won six Simpson races without a loss at Pocono on Monday and Tuesday as both driver and trainer. On Wednesday, he handed driving duties over to Matt Kakaley, the leading driver in 2023 at Pocono, and the success continued in the two-year-old trotting filly class. It came down to Duchamp S in the final division and Kakaley coaxed her home to get her maiden win in 1:57.4.

In other stakes action, driver Tim Tetrick took two of the three Simpson races for two-year-old pacing fillies on Wednesday.
