Al-Sudani to Present Iraq’s Development Strategy at the United Nations General Assembly: PM advisor

Baghdad – INA

Hussein Al-Alawi, advisor to the Prime Minister, stated on Sunday that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ Al-Sudani will lead Iraq’s delegation at the United Nations General Assembly, where he will discuss key sustainable development indicators and advocate for productive diplomacy for international cooperation and concluding the UNAMI mission.

Al-Alawi confirmed that the Prime Minister will formally present Iraq’s comprehensive development strategy during the Assembly sessions.
In remarks to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Alawi articulated, “Iraq is embracing a proactive diplomatic approach designed to foster sustained international cooperation within the global framework, while simultaneously facilitating the transition for ending the mission of UNAMI. This effort is complemented by ongoing collaboration with various United Nations agencies.”

He underscored Iraq’s commitment to leveraging the opportunity presented by the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in 2024 as a global platform for dialogue. This session will enable the Iraqi government to communicate its policies and development strategies effectively, allowing for discussions on progress across multiple sectors, including labor, social issues, and governance.
Al-Alawi highlighted the government’s focus on developmental renaissance through the announcement of a five-year plan, alongside initiatives to adapt to climate change and combat the effects of global warming.
He also noted the launch of the “Zero Flame” initiative aimed at eliminating gas flaring, which the government has actively pursued for the past 23 months, emphasizing that these initiatives have invigorated the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors, setting Iraq on a transformative path toward a new era. Furthermore, he mentioned that the government is targeting an increase in the utilization of flared gas from 69% to 75%, with aspirations to position Iraq among the world’s top five gas producers. Ongoing efforts are also directed toward enhancing energy production and establishing a robust industrial environment reliant on gas to achieve…

Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s ‘The Lost Christmas Eve’ Winter Tour 2024 to be a triple celebration

WILKES-BARRE — 98.5 WKRZ and WNEP-TV are proud to welcome Trans-Siberian Orchestra on their return to Wilkes Barre for two spectacular shows on Sunday, November 24 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the ASM Global-managed Mohegan Arena.

Tickets for both shows are now on sale at Ticketmaster.com or the NBT Bank Box Office at Mohegan Arena. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Luzerne County Chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace charity.

This year, multi-platinum rock group Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) kicks off their monumental winter tour November 13. This year marks a triple celebration for a larger-than-life band: 20 years of their beloved rock opera “The Lost Christmas Eve,”” reaching their 20 millionth concert-goer, and surpassing a phenomenal $20 million donated to charity.

TSO remains true to the vision of their late founder, Paul O’Neill, by being one of rock’s most generous bands. This year, the band will surpass a staggering $20 million donated to charity, a testament to their ongoing commitment to philanthropy. This generosity is fueled by their tradition of donating at least $1 from every ticket sold. That means with their 20 millionth fan attending a show on this tour, TSO will be hitting not just a concert attendance record, but a charitable milestone as well.

This year’s tour marks the grand return of “The Lost Christmas Eve” to the stage for the first time since 2013. Expect an all-new, dazzling spectacle packed with pyrotechnics, lasers, and the incredible storytelling synonymous with TSO. The celebration continues with a high-energy second set featuring the group’s greatest hits and fan favorites.

“The Lost Christmas Eve” is a product of the imagination of and based on TSO’s double-platinum CD of the same name….

Art Gallery Exhibition Focuses on Innovative Indigenous Works

Galloway, N.J. – “Indigenous people are more than just what you read about in your false and colonial history books or a concept of the past. In 2024, we are contemporary.”

This and more gems of wisdom were dropped by Indigenous artist Denise “Bright Dove” Ashton-Dunkley during Sept. 17’s Artist Talk & Workshop in the Stockton University Art Gallery.

Ashton-Dunkley of the Nanticoke/Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation is one of more than 25 local and international artists featured in the new two-floor exhibition, “Indigenous Approaches, Sustainable Futures.” She and fellow tribe member Tyrese “Bright Flower” Gould Jacinto and Jeremy Dennis of the Shinnecock Indian Nation led participants on a tour of the exhibition and talked about the inspiration behind their featured works.

According to Ashton-Dunkley, her piece, “Land Back,” is meant to challenge the viewer to acknowledge and consider the concepts of land reclamation and the significance of Indigenous traditional and ecological knowledge, especially as the world reckons with the current climate crisis.

“We hold this knowledge, and we’ve always been willing to share it. There’s no need to try to continue erasing us via MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women), genocide or forced sterilization,” Ashton-Dunkley said. “It all comes down to you voting, finding out what these politicians stand for and holding them accountable to their promises. Help us with your voice and steward these lands.”

Gould Jacinto’s gourd art is visually striking; lights reflect off of the colorful beads that adorn the painted gourds, creating rainbow shadows on the gallery’s walls and floors. Gould Jacinto explained that each piece comes from the same source of inspiration — nature and how it connects the past with the present.

“I use the seed of my ancestors, and I plant it in the soil, which is the dust of my ancestors….

Football Game Preview: Tunkhannock on Home-Turf

Suggested Video

Tunkhannock hasn’t had much luck against Wyoming Area recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Tunkhannock Tigers will stay at home for another week and welcome the Wyoming Area Warriors at 7:00 p.m.

Tunkhannock will head into Friday’s contest ready to turn things around: they couldn’t quite beat Greater Nanticoke Area on Friday, but the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 40-point loss they were dealt last Friday. Tunkhannock fell just short of Greater Nanticoke Area by a score of 14-12.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wyoming Area). They took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 56-6 win over Lakeland. Given the Warriors’ advantage in MaxPreps’ Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Chiefs are ranked 395th), the result wasn’t entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Lidge Kellum, who rushed for 183 yards on only 11 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 69 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Trustin Johnson, who rushed for 68 yards on only five carries.

He was just one part of a punishing run game: Wyoming Area was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 409 rushing yards. That’s the most rushing yards they’ve posted since back in October of 2023.

Wyoming Area wouldn’t let Lakeland keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Wyoming Area can thank Johnson and Donavon Miller for forcing both of them. The dominant performance…

Lenape artist to appear at Pennsbury Manor

2023 © Steve Boyle

On Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., indigenous artist Nathan Young will give his “Welcome to Lenapehoking” performative lecture at Pennsbury Manor, William Penn’s reconstructed estate on the Delaware River in Bucks County.

Attendees are welcome to explore Young’s innovative immersive sound installation, nkwiluntàmën: I long for it; I am lonesome for it (such as the sound of a drum), on the Pennsbury grounds before the presentation.

As an artist and member of the Delaware Tribe of Indians, a federally recognized Lenape tribe, Young reimagined Pennsbury Manor as a site for both reflecting on our nation’s past and envisioning new futures that honor Indigenous perspectives. In this self-guided, outdoor sound walk, Young’s work will take participants on a journey through Pennsbury Manor’s riverfront grounds with original music compositions, personal narrative and environmental recordings. At the program, Young will perform an adaptation of his work “Welcome to Lenapehoking” and discuss his experience with nkwiluntàmën, inviting audience questions.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Self-guided tour of sound installation by Young
  • 1 p.m.: Welcome remarks
  • 1:15 p.m.: “Welcome to Lenapehoking” presentation by Young
  • 1:45 p.m.: Facilitated curator Q&A

Admission to the presentation is free, but advance registration at pennsburysociety-bloom.kindful.com/e/meet-nkwiluntmn-artist-nathan-young for this event is highly recommended, as space is limited. There is a $3 fee to tour the grounds, including the nkwiluntàmën installation. nkwiluntàmën at Pennsbury Manor will be closing on June 27, 2025.

Pennsbury Manor is located at 400 Pennsbury Memorial Road, Morrisville.

Advisory: ICA Returns to New York Climate Week to Champion Indigenous-led Solutions—a Just Future for All

Advisory: ICA Returns to New York Climate Week to Champion Indigenous-led Solutions—a Just Future for All

September 20, 2024

Lenape (Lenapehoking), Manahatin, Canarsie,  Shinnecock, Reckgawanc, Munsee and Haudenosaunee Nation | New York City, NY — As thousands plan to gather for Climate Week 2024, Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is proud to announce its delegation. Indigenous leaders and climate justice advocates will amplify Indigenous-led solutions, utilizing divestment, Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), Just Transition, as well as the threats and risks of Nature-based solutions on global human rights. These efforts will center Indigenous knowledge in addressing the accelerating climate crisis and phase out of fossil fuels.

ICA, in partnership with Sacred Earth Solar, will co-host a hybrid panel discussion: Invest in Indigenous Sovereignty on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. This panel, featuring leaders in Indigenous divestment and land defense, will explore how divestment can shift power back to Indigenous communities, strengthen Indigenous economies, and push for systemic change that prioritizes land protection, environmental justice, and accountability from financial institutions.

Complimenting this vital conversation, ICA will introduce a Divestment report: Healing the Land: Indigenous Perspectives on Divestment, exploring Indigenous divestment strategies as effective and transformative tools, emphasizing the relationship between divestment and Indigenous sovereignty. In conjunction with the report launch, ICA will host a collaborative Indigenous Divestment Working Group to provide feedback on the current Indigenous Divestment Working Group and Indigenous Caucus. This session will also explore long-term Indigenous divestment strategies, offering space to discuss goals for Indigenous-led divestment in so-called Canada.

Beyond these critical co-hosted events, ICA’s delegation will be actively participating in multiple panels and discussions throughout the week.

The delegation will be on the ground, co-hosting, speaking, and engaging in roundtable sessions. With a strong emphasis on Decolonizing Climate Policy and advocating for Indigenous rights and sovereignty in national…
