Nanticoke man charged with sexually assaulting woman

WILKES-BARRE — A man from Nanticoke was arrested by Wilkes-Barre City Police after a woman claimed he raped her along railroad tracks in the area of Carey Avenue and West Division Street Sunday.

Jermaine Lee Crosby, 40, of East Union Street, was arraigned by District Judge Rick Cronauer in Wilkes-Barre on felony charges of rape by force and sexual assault and a misdemeanor count of simple assault. Crosby was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $100,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

A woman receiving medical treatment at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre passed a note in the emergency room claiming she was raped and did not know what to do.

A police officer was summoned to the emergency room where the woman claimed she had been hanging out with Crosby for several weeks.

The woman told police Crosby wanted to have sex but she refused.

Crosby allegedly struck her on the left side of her face, pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted while he held her down by her throat and shoulders along railroad tracks behind a store at Carey Avenue and West Division Street.

Police in the complaint said the woman’s left eye was swollen.

The woman told police she fought Crosby during the assault, the complaint says.

Police say they recovered a flannel shirt in the area where the alleged sexual assault occurred.

Court records say Crosby was released from the county correctional facility on an unrelated case when he posted $8,000 bail on July 23, related to slashing a woman during an argument about a cellular phone on South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, on June 4, 2022.

Crosby is scheduled for trial the week…

A return to the past: Monument Mountain set to revert back to Mohican stewardship

Following today’s historic Stockbridge announcement by Massachusetts Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, Monument Mountain will once again belong to the Indigenous people that settled the area centuries ago.

“The North slope of the land now known as Fenn Farm on Monument Mountain will once again be stewarded by the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of the Mohican Nation,” Driscoll said to a packed Stockbridge Town Hall, part of the ancestral homeland of the Mohican tribe that’s now based in Wisconsin. “That’s not only a meaningful step forward in relation to our history, but [it] also means that Indigenous land management practices and traditional ecological knowledge are going to help us fight and adapt to an ever-growing and present-changing climate future.”

She acknowledged the work done by Stockbridge officials to affect the return of this land.

The change is promulgated by a $31.5 million grant program—the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program (MVP)—that provides local communities with funding and technical assistance to implement climate resilience projects. Along with 56 different individual municipal grantees, the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans was awarded a $2.26 million grant to reclaim 351 acres of their Indigenous homelands, while implementing tribal conservation and forest management strategies to combat climate change.

“We are celebrating the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans reclaiming land in their ancestral homeland,” Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper said. “We are also celebrating the concept to have Indigenous land management as a key way to further climate resiliency in our state.”

Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans President Shannon Holsey described the day as “very joyful and emotional” for her community. “We believe that it is our responsibility to be land stewards and to advocate for future generations,” she said. “We are grateful to be home today, and we are grateful to be partners with all of you who made…

Who really owns the United States?

Nowadays, it is common, when introducing an event, to say something along the lines of: “We are grateful to the XYZ Indian Tribe for allowing us to hold this gathering on what is really their land.” Universities, bastions of the left, have been particularly intent upon engaging in this practice. For example, Northwestern University offered this “expression of gratitude and appreciation to those whose territory you reside on, and a way of honoring the Indigenous people who have been living and working on the land from time immemorial.” Here is another instance: “Princeton (University) seeks to build relationships with Native American and Indigenous communities and nations through academic pursuits, partnerships, historical recognitions, community service and enrollment efforts.  These communities and nations include the Lenni-Lenape people, who consider the land on which the University stands part of their ancient homeland.”

Do the American Indians really own the entire country based upon homesteading, mixing their labor with the land? Not at all. There are now some 350 million people in the country, and there are still vast areas of it that have never so much as been touched by human feet, let alone homesteaded as farms, factories or residences. Before the white man came to the continent the best estimate is that there were only 2-3 million native persons in existence (the lowest estimate is less than one million; the highest, 18 million). It is difficult to see how they, alone, could have accomplished any such task.

There is a continuum issue heavily involved in homesteading. How intensively must the land be homesteaded, and for how long, before it can be clearly stated that ownership has been attained? Experts aver that it must be more intense, and less acreage attained for any given amount…

VNC Preview: Bigger Than The Drop

The casino entertainment industry is about more than just luck but, much like gaming, success can come from taking chances.

Casino entertainment veteran Christian Printup starts his new job as vice president of entertainment at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, Sept. 4 after seven and a half years at Seneca Resorts in upstate New York where he served as executive director of entertainment and special events.

“The thing I love about Foxwoods, and what really attracted me to it, and made me really kind of seal the deal in taking the new job is how forward thinking they are,” said Printup. “They think big and they dream, they have big vision and I love that. So you can expect Foxwoods to continue to grow.”

Printup, who was named casino entertainment executive of the year in 2019 by the American Gaming Association, steps into a very active, multi-venue property, with the total Foxwoods complex taking up 9 million square feet over six casino properties, more than 2,000 hotel rooms and 30 restaurants. The casino is just miles from Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, which includes the venerable 10,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena, a regular tour stop in the region.

“I’ve always been motivated by a challenge, and Foxwoods definitely represents the next level in casino experience and casino entertainment,” says Printup. He says it was a difficult decision to leave Seneca Resorts, which allowed him the opportunity to go back to his hometown market after making a mark in the casino business at Tachi Palace casino in central California in the early 2000s.

Active performance venues at Foxwoods include the 4,000-capacity Premier Theater, the Great Theater Showroom (1,400), and a new multipurpose Ring Maker Expo space. Upcoming shows include Daughtry, Ludacris, Gabriel Iglesias, Sara Evans, Megadeth, Brian Setzer, and Kesha.

Seeing ‘Last of the Mohicans’ in tiptoe dance

STILL dominating radio airwaves this weekend are Diamond Platinumz’s recent projects; Enjoy that Jux  featured him and Achi, his latest collabo with Koffi Olomide.

Both projects are doing well as Enjoy has drawn over 8 million YouTube views, its audio version parades over 10m views while Achi has carved close to 5 million views, whose growth in the number of views seems to be less explosive than his previous projects with three megastars of the Congolese music; Innossy B, Fally Ipupa and Koffi himself. It is still baffling how Yope Remix, Inama and Waah quickly raked in over 465 million views worldwide.

Though it is still early, it seems hard for the newly executed projects to beat his earlier collaborations, especially Yope Remix which alone roped in over 208 million views. Inama, his duet with Fally Ipupa, has drawn over 135 million views while Waah, his first collabo with Koffi Olomide has fetched over 122 million views.

All of the works Diamond collaborated with Congolese megastars and others he did with great artists from the U.S.A, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Kenya, Yope Remix stands an edge above the rest to the extent it has become an anthem of pan-African dance.

A fan who identified himself as Michael Moonwalking best described what added a new dimension to Yope Remix’s beauty. He said Diamond dancing was incredible.”I saw that Moonwalk at 3:49 You can always depend on Africa to continue the legacy of the Late King of Pop.

This song is truly amazing.” A fan who identified as The Familesso added: ‘Diamond is the greatest thing Africa has never had.

His genius approach and his talent are beyond any African nation has provided. An African man is talented, coordinated and representing.

He is the Michael Jackson of Africa.” Samuel Opole said upon the…
