May Federal Grand Jury 2024-A Indictments Announced

United States Attorney Clint Johnson today announced the results of the May Federal Grand Jury 2024-A Indictments.

The following individuals have been charged with violations of United States law in indictments returned by the Grand Jury. The return of an indictment is a method of informing a defendant of alleged violations of federal law, which must be proven in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt to overcome a defendant’s presumption of innocence.

Filiberto Almaguer-Estrada. Felon in Possession of a Firearm; Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute. Almaguer-Estrada, 30, of Tulsa, is charged with possessing a firearm and ammunition knowing he was previously convicted of felonies. He is further charged with knowingly possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute. The Drug Enforcement Administration and Tulsa Police Department are the investigative agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Attila Bogdan is prosecuting the case. 24-CR-149

Eduardo Agustin Barrera-Lopez; Marco Antonio Lopez-Damian; Dennis Manuel Salazar-Lopez. Drug Conspiracy; Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute; Possession of Heroin with Intent to Distribute. Barrera-Lopez, 38, Lopez-Damian,26, Salazar-Lopez, 22, all Mexican nationals, are charged with conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and heroin starting in Oct. 2023. They are further charged with intentionally possessing methamphetamine and heroin with intent to distribute. The Drug Enforcement Administration and Tulsa Police Department are the investigative agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Attila Bogdan is prosecuting the case. 24-CR-148

Kelly Wayne Bolden. Distribution of Child Pornography. Bolden, 47, of Tulsa, is charged with knowingly distributing visual images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. The FBI is the investigative agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Ihler is prosecuting the case. 24-CR-146

Jeffery John Bowers. Arson in Indian Country. Bowers, 41, of Bartlesville and a member of the Delaware Tribe of Indians, is charged with maliciously setting fire to a dwelling in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Bureau of…

Bonner leads Sun past Storm

Jun. 18—MOHEGAN — Ask DeWanna Bonner how she’s doing on any given day and the Connecticut Sun veteran will most likely answer, “I’m old.”

On a Friday night in which a sizable percentage of the 7,088 fans came to Mohegan Sun Arena to see the Seattle Storm’s Breanna Stewart and most especially old favorite Sue Bird, it was Bonner who shined when it counted.

Bonner scored 15 of her game-high 20 in the fourth and added 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the Sun to an 82-71 win.

Connecticut (12-4) clinched the season series against the Storm (9-6). It won at Seattle on June 5, 93-86.

Bonner missed 10 of 12 shots through three quarters. She made six of her seven field goals in the fourth, including two threes.

“My teammates, man, they just kept telling me to keep shooting, it’s going to fall, it’s going to fall at the right time,” Bonner said. “That’s what (happened). Once I got one going, I felt a little bit better. They just told me to keep staying aggressive because I think I passed up a couple of shots (earlier).”

Jonquel Jones had 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for the Sun and Brionna Jones added 19 points. Alyssa Thomas added 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Connecticut shot 52.2-percent.

Stewart led Seattle with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Bird scored 14 with four assists.

“The fourth quarter, we struggled,” Stewart said. “In order to steal a game on the road, you have to play better in all (four) quarters.”

Connecticut had gone cold in the third quarter (it shot 35.3-percent from the floor) and needed someone to get rolling. That someone was Bonner.

Let’s talk about tacos: 8 Taco Tuesday deals in NEPA

No one will confuse Pennsylvania with states like California and Texas when it comes to renowned Mexican food. But thanks to a growing Latino population, the northeastern part of the commonwealth boasts a vibrant mix of locally-owned Mexican restaurants, Tex-Mex joints, and taquerias.

As the Latino community grows in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Hispanic entrepreneurs are helping to revive a culture of small business. And many of these businesses are culinary gems.

We’ve put together a list of some of the best Taco Tuesday deals at restaurants in NEPA. Many of these restaurants are Latino-owned and serve cuisine the chefs grew up eating, while others proudly serve Americanized fusion food. And some restaurants may go all out for Taco Tuesday while others simply offer affordable tacos!

Picosita Tacos – Nanticoke

Picosita Tacos is a genuine, family-owned taqueria that got its start as a food truck in Mountain Top. On Tuesdays in its brick-and-mortar location in Nanticoke, the restaurant celebrates Taco Tuesday at lunchtime (between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) with a special offering of four tacos for $10. La Cantina Amigon – Wilkes-Barre

The cute beach town of Cape May is the southernmost point in New Jersey, and is known as a charming vacation destination. Cape May is a relaxing respite from everyday life, as it offers almost three miles of sandy coastline on which you can sunbathe, swim, play volleyball, and for the more adventurous, kayak, surf and skimboard. Fishing is permitted in specified areas.

If you’re visiting town with your family, don’t miss a trip to the Cape May County Park and Zoo, which features more than 500 animals representing over 250 different species. The Cape May Point Science Center is another must-see attraction, as is the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviatin Museum. The naval air station was commissioned in 1943, and served as a training center during WWII. The Colonial House was once the family home of Revolutionary War patriot Memucan Hughes, and is open for free tours during the summer months.
