Connecticut Online Sports Betting – Now Legal and Live!

After Governor Ned Lamont signed the bill into law in May 2021, sports betting officially became legal in Connecticut. The Mashantucket Pequots and Mohegans operate Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, respectively, and have long been a dominant force in both state politics and casino gaming. Both are now able to offer online sports betting in Connecticut, along with the CT Lottery. Online betting officially began in October 2021.

Connecticut has two primary, federally recognized tribes that basically control casino gaming in the state. You’ve probably heard of Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun; Foxwoods was at one point the largest casino in the country. It is now #2, followed by Mohegan Sun at #3 based on square feet of gaming space. SU’s Annual Nanticoke River Invasive Fishing Derby is July 20

SALISBURY — Dr. Noah Bressman, Salisbury University assistant professor of biological studies, is combating invasive species in local waterways, and Eastern Shore anglers can help.

Fishing hobbyists and professionals alike are invited to the third Nanticoke River Invasive Fishing Derby, presented by SU Saturday, July 20 (rain date: Saturday, July 27) at Cherry Beach Park in Sharptown, MD. Lines in at 5 a.m. and weigh-in begins at 1:30 p.m., followed by awards, data collection, invasive species educational lessons and more.

Thanks to support from SU’s Graduate Studies and Research Office, the free derby features some $2,000 in prizes. A portion of all blue catfish and northern snakeheads caught will be provided to Bressman’s lab to continue research to learn more about their effects on the local ecosystem, with a focus on diet, growth speed and reproduction rates. Anglers may take home the remainder of their catches if desired.

“We really want to spread awareness in local waterway communities about what fish are invasive, and how they can minimize the population to relieve some pressure from striped bass and blue crabs, whose populations are on the decline,” said Bressman. “The event is family friendly for anglers of any age.”

Derby fishing is permitted at Cherry Beach Park for shore-based anglers. Those fishing from kayaks or boats may use any boat launch along the Nanticoke and tributaries such as Marshyhope Creek and Barren Creek. Maryland or Delaware tidal fishing licenses are required for most participants, respective to their fishing location. A section of Cherry Beach Park is designated as a license-free fishing zone for those without a license.

The event is hook and line only and does not include a bow fishing category. Limited fishing gear will be available for those who may not have their own supplies.

Summer Sky Dazzles with the Rare ‘Strawberry Moon’

Summer has officially arrived in the Northern Hemisphere, and to kick off its annual inauguration, a “Strawberry Moon” will grace the skies of the southeast on Friday, June 21.

The first moon of summer is a little deceptive at first, as many would expect it to shine a bright red or pink hue due to its namesake, much like the blood moons that draw so much attention.

This is not the case, however, as the Strawberry Moon got its name from American Indian tribes such as the Algonquian who used this moon to determine “the ripening of ‘June-bearing’ strawberries that are ready to be gathered,” according to the Famers Almanac, not a drastic change of color.

“Since the 2024 June full moon happens on the solstice, the very day the sun is absolutely at its highest of the year, this month’s full moon on the 21st is the very lowest full moon, indeed, the lowest we’ve seen in years,” the Almanac reads. “Just look at it! Because the moon is so low, it will appear bigger than ever. This is called the ‘moon illusion.’”

But the Algonquian tribe were not alone in this practice, as other tribes such as the Ojibwe, Dakota and Lakota also marked this moon as a time of harvest.

Events such as this, and the peoples of the earth using as a time of harvest, coincide with the words of the Bible in regard to the seasons changing as time continues.

Mohegan Sun Arena Named Casino Arena Of The Year At The ACM Industry Awards

NASHVILLE (CelebrityAccess) – The Academy of Country Music (ACM) announced the winners of the ACM Industry and Studio Recording Awards for the 59th ACM Awards through video announcements with Kelsea Ballerini, Dan + Shay, Vince  Gill, Thomas Rhett, Dierks Bentley, Tigirlilly Gold, Keith Urban and more. All winners and Special Awards will be honored during the 17th Annual ACM Honors on Wednesday (August 21) at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN.

Industry award winners for 2024 include Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. One of the nation’s hottest venues has won three major national awards for 2024 from NEWSWEEK, Pollstar and just picked up the honor of Casino Arena of the Year from the ACM Industry Awards.

Tom Cantone, President of Mohegan Sports & Entertainment, has built an entertainment dynasty, accumulating over 20 national awards during his tenure at Mohegan Sun. This is yet another feather in the cap for Cantone’s Hall of Fame entertainment career.

Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium was selected as the ACM Theater of the Year and Choctaw Grand Theater in Durant, OK, was named Casino Theater of the Year. At the same time, Red Rocks in Colorado earned the accolade for Outdoor Theater of the Year for 2024. Ed Warm was announced as the ACM’s Don Romeo Talent Buyer of the Year, and AEG’s Adam Weiser was named Promoter of the Year.

Through New Jersey and into New York

Day 93 Mohican Outdoor Center – AT Daily Miles 0;  AT Total Miles 1308.0

So I decided to go ahead and take a rest day for the ankle mainly. It would help me get gear cleaned and organized, as well as my own self cleaned and organized! I got a lot of Internet chores done with the Wi-Fi and was able to talk to my wife for a while.

The Mohican Outdoor Center is managed by the Appalachian Mountain Club and does a lot of great things for our hiking community. The property here is very relaxed and is really in tune with the surroundings. I’m glad I took a zero here.

I saw my first bear of the trail on my rest day of all things! The large black bear passed by the general store and checked us out. I’ve heard New Jersey has a lot of bears.

Day 94 Mohican to Gren Anderson Shelter – AT Daily Miles 21.0; AT Total Miles 1329.0

I really enjoyed my stay at the Mohican Outdoor Center. It was not really set up for backpackers but more for families to enjoy relaxing and nature. For me though it worked just fine. I stayed in the bunkhouse for two nights and although it could accommodate 16 people, I was the only one to book it so had so much privacy. Soon it was time to head back to the trail though.

Although my left ankle is still swollen, it does feel better. Plus, the rocks in New Jersey are still there, but not nearly as bad as they were in Pennsylvania.

The highlights of the day were probably the beaver ponds and lodges that I came across. There were a couple of good scenic views, but nothing like earlier in the trek down in Georgia, North…
