Baghdad, 30 January 2025 – The United Nations and the Government of Iraq launched today the second phase of the ONE UN Plan, titled “New Beginnings”, a comprehensive framework aimed at facilitating the safe, voluntary, and dignified return, rehabilitation, and reintegration of Iraqi nationals from Al-Hol and Al-Roj camps in northeastern Syria.

The event, held at Al-Nahrain Center in Baghdad, was attended by senior representatives of the Government of Iraq, the United Nations, the diplomatic community, and international partners. Speaking at the ceremony, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of UNAMI Dr. Mohamed Al Hassan stated: “Iraq’s leadership, in facilitating the return of its citizens from northeastern Syria, sets a global positive precedent. This comprehensive and courageous initiative has been praised by the highest levels in the United Nations, including the Secretary-General himself.” He added: “It is time to close this file and turn the page on ISIS threats. It is a challenging project and solving it in accordance with international standards and in a manner that commensurate with the level of this country that has shaped the civilization of humanity is evidence of Iraq’s recovery.”

For his part, the National Security Advisor Mr. Qassim al-Araji thanked all government and international partners for their efforts, emphasizing the importance of accelerating the return process and closing Al-Hol camp. He also urged international partners to continue supporting Iraq in this effort. The ONE UN Plan builds upon Iraq’s efforts since 2021 to repatriate and reintegrate its citizens, particularly women and children who have lived in harsh and volatile conditions in Al-Hol. More than 60 percent of the Iraqis in the camp are children under 17, and 20 percent are under five, many of whom have been denied access to fundamental rights, including education. Recognizing the deteriorating…

F1’s Wing Flex Revolution: McLaren’s ‘Mohican’ Innovation Shakes Up the Grid

Formula 1’s relentless battle over wing flexibility has reached a fever pitch, and the latest technological breakthrough is sending shockwaves through the paddock. In an era defined by ground effect cars pushed to their aerodynamic limits, the secret to success lies in how teams manipulate wing flex to balance downforce and stability at blistering speeds. Last year, McLaren’s ingenious ‘Mohican’ wing design turned the tables on Red Bull’s long-held dominance—and the ripple effects are set to redefine the sport in 2025.

A High-Speed Balancing Act: The Science of Aero-Flex

Since the late 1990s, wing flexibility has been a battleground for Formula 1 engineers. But with the advent of ground effect cars that run lower and faster than ever before, the challenge has intensified. The trick is to design a front wing that is aggressive at low speeds while naturally reducing its power at high speeds to maintain rear stability. When a car reaches speeds beyond 120–130mph, static load tests no longer reveal the full story: it’s the dynamic flex on track that can make or break performance.

McLaren discovered that by maintaining rigidity in the inboard section of the wing while allowing a non-linear increase in flex at the outboard end, they could achieve the perfect compromise. This delicate balance creates a wing that is potent at low speeds yet mellows out at high speeds—keeping the car stable in fast corners without sacrificing the downforce needed for grip. The computation behind this complex carbon fiber lay-up is mind-boggling and extremely costly, but it has paid off handsomely for McLaren.

The Battle Lines Are Drawn: Clampdowns and Copycats

The innovation sparked by McLaren was not left unchallenged. With Mercedes and Alpine quickly developing similar aero-flex solutions—thanks to strategic upgrades in Miami and Austin, respectively—Red Bull and Ferrari have been forced…

Celebrating 400 Years of the Greatest City in the World Celebrar los 400 años de la ciudad más grandiosa del mundo – Manhattan Times News

Celebrating 400 Years of the Greatest City in the World

By Eric L. Adams

Photos: NYC Mayoral Photography Office

2025 marks a historic occasion — our city’s 400th anniversary.

It marks four centuries since the first European settlement of Manhattan in 1625, on land then known as Lenapehoking, the homeland of the Lenape people. The tiny Dutch colony began as New Amsterdam and then changed to New York when the English took control and expanded rapidly. A century ago, its boundaries increased beyond the island of Manhattan to encompass the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.

The city marked the first Lenape Heritage Day this past November.

To celebrate our city’s 400th anniversary, we are proud to announce the launch of our “Founded By NYC” campaign, which focuses on commemorating and celebrating our city’s 400th birthday and honoring the Indigenous communities that came long before. The campaign highlights contributions from New York City that have shaped our nation and affirmed our country’s place in the world.

A new website has been launched.

Our website, FoundedByNYC.com, features events and activities that showcase our city’s amazing 400-year history. You can also sign up for our newsletter, which will keep you up to date on events in the five boroughs and submit information about your own events that illustrate New York City’s past so that we can showcase it on our calendar.

The campaign highlights contributions from New York City that have shaped our nation.”

Even as we look forward and celebrate all our great city has to offer, our administration is deeply committed to acknowledging and engaging with our city’s complex past. That is why we met with Chief…

ESPN Analyst States Caitlin Clark ‘Is the Needle’ After NBA All-Star Decision

On January 29, it was announced that Indiana Fever icon Caitlin Clark would not be participating in a three-point shooting competition during the NBA All-Star Weekend, which takes place from February 14-16.

It was reported that Clark’s reasoning for this is that she’d prefer to make her three-point shooting competition debut during the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, which is taking place at the Fever’s home court in Indianapolis.

Clark has received much positive feedback from many within the media (including Stephen A. Smith) for this decision to prioritize her own league over the NBA.

And ESPN analyst Chiney Ogwumike offered her own praise during a January 30 episode of First Take.

“A lot of people say that Caitlin Clark moves the needle. That is wrong. She is the needle,” Ogwumike said, per an X post from First Take.

“She dictates. We all know what she has done on the floor. It’s history, right? But off the floor, my goodness. She and the Indiana Fever accounted for 45% of all the broadcast value of the WNBA last season. She accounted also for helping drive the numbers of merchandising up.

“Most importantly, I think people look at this and think she said no. That’s not the case,” Ogwumike added of Clark’s decision. “She said she wants her first competition to be in Indy, at WNBA All-Star, which to me is huge. People don’t see the numbers below, the economic impact… So I understand her point of view. She wants to probably let other athletes shine… There are previous winners that should probably get an opportunity to compete.

“So I think Caitlin, she moves because she knows people follow her no matter where she goes, and she’s very strategic about dictating where her value is,” she concluded.

Key Takeaways:

  • POLITICS: Sudani Urges Parliament To Support Budget Amendments; Egypt’s PM Visits Baghdad, Signs Twelve New Agreements – On January 29, Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani convened a meeting with the leaders of parliamentary blocs to discuss advancing a proposal to amend parts of the federal budget law concerning oil produced in the Kurdistan region. Sudani urged political leaders to support the amendments his government proposed, aiming to resume the halted oil exports from Kurdistan by offering the regional government better terms for recovering oil production and transportation costs. He stressed that parliament should vote on the exact text sent by the government in November without any alterations. According to a government statement, the political leaders present at the meeting expressed their support for Sudani’s request, and a vote on the budget law amendment has been scheduled for Sunday. On January 30, Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli arrived in Baghdad and met with Sudani to discuss bilateral relations, cooperation, and regional issues of mutual interest. During the visit, Iraq and Egypt signed 12 agreements covering various sectors, including transportation, antitrust regulations, antiquities and museums, stock market oversight, telecommunications, trade, and grain storage. In other developments, on January 24, UNAMI said it was “closely following the latest developments” regarding last week’s parliamentary vote approving controversial amendments to the Personal Status Law. UNAMI emphasized the importance of ensuring that “legal reforms align with Iraq’s international human rights commitments, particularly in relation to safeguarding the rights and well-being of women and children.” more…

H.S. Girls Basketball: Defense moves Lake-Lehman closer to division title

Jan. 31—NANTICOKE — Nanticoke Area’s defense was fine in the first quarter Thursday night. So was the rebounding.

The Trojanettes’ problem was poor shooting compounded by turnovers. Neither improved in the second quarter as first-place Lake-Lehman rolled to a 51-26 victory in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 girls basketball game.

Lehman (12-0 Div. 2, 15-5) clinched a tie mathematically for the divisional championship. Realistically, the win virtually assured the title since the Black Knights would have to lose their final two divisional games. One of them is against MMI Prep, which they defeated 53-8 a few weeks earlier.

Nanticoke Area (9-3, 11-9) can still tie Holy Redeemer (10-2, 16-4) for second place, a position which would mean a spot in the WVC Tournament on Feb. 12. But even if the teams finish with the same divisional records, Redeemer is nearly certain of winning the tiebreaker — District 2 power rankings.

The Trojanettes missed all 10 of their first-quarter shots and had seven turnovers, yet trailed just 8-1. They then missed five more attempt in the second before Natalee Atkins hit a 3-pointer.

Lehman, though, hadn’t caused much damage to that juncture. That changed with an 8-0 burst as freshman Kinley Purdy, who finished with a career-high 24 points, triggered the Black Knights’ transition offense.

“Just too many halfcourt turnovers in the first half and that was able to get their transition game going,” Nanticoke Area coach Ed Grant said. “I thought that was what burned us most of the game. They’ve consistently done that on film when they get it out and go.”

Nanticoke Area shot slightly better in the second quarter, but finished 3-of-24 shooting in the first half and in a 25-9 hole at halftime. The Trojanettes entered the game with three of the top-seven 3-point shooters in the division. They exited 3-of-29 from…

BKFC Mohegan Sun Features Awesome Main Card Feb. 1

BKFC Mohegan Sun is two days away. A week ago Saturday, it was BKFC KnuckleMania V taking center stage in primetime on DAZN. A total of 17,762 spectators walked through the doors of Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center to see the action.

Official figures from the card indicate that the 17,762 people who paid to see the show made for a new promotional record for a live audience. This week, David Feldman and his staff stay in the East Coast for a trek to Uncasville, CT and Mohegan Sun Arena for BKFC Mohegan Sun as the promotion’s 2025 schedule continues.

Live coverage of Saturday’s event begins with the countdown show at 5 pm ET/ 2 pm PT on the official BKFC YouTube channel before moving onto the two-fight undercard at 6 pm ET/ 3 pm PT on DAZN and YouTube. The main card caps the evening at 7 pm ET/ 4 pm PT.  If there are no 11th-hour postponements between now and Saturday night, the final version of BKFC Mohegan Sun will feature an 11-fight bare-knuckle boxing card.

Must-See Fights on BKFC Mohegan Sun’s Main Card Saturday

We’ve already discussed the undercard previously, but now it’s time for us to talk about the main card. There are a number of noteworthy contests taking place on that portion of the event, so why waste any more time and start talking about it?

Note: All fights in BKFC are five rounds at two minutes per round.

BKFC Mohegan Sun Main Event: Julian Lane vs. Cameron VanCamp

At the top of the bill on Saturday night is a contest in the welterweight division (165 lbs) between Julian Lane (7-7 bare-knuckle, 5-6 BKFC) and Cameron VanCamp
