Bucks County 9-8-8 Lifeline Calls Being Answered From Bristol

Bucks County residents calling or texting 9-8-8 for mental health or substance use assistance are now connected with local professionals from the Lenape Valley Foundation.

The Doylestown-based nonprofit began operating the 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline for the county in June.

The 9-8-8 service is available 24/7 through call, text, or chat, and works to provide immediate crisis intervention, reduce unnecessary emergency room visits, limit law enforcement interactions for mental health crises, and connect callers with follow-up care and community resources.

“In the same way that 911 connects callers to physical health emergency services, 988 simplifies access to behavioral health emergency services,” said Dave Herold, CEO of the Lenape Valley Foundation. “This move will ensure that our neighbors in crisis can quickly reach trained professionals who provide inclusive, culturally responsive care and can connect them to the appropriate local support.”

The Lenape Valley Foundation has hired eight crisis hotline specialists to staff the call center.

The call center staff will work from the organization’s crisis residential center, The Lodge, in Bristol Borough.

Lenape Valley Foundation officials said the staff have experience counseling individuals and families, including veterans, Spanish speakers, and members of the LGBTQI+ community.

Kris Thompson, COO at Lenape Valley Foundation, explained the process for when someone is connected to a specialists.

“When somebody calls they’re going to be met by a trained, crisis phone specialist, who has training and deescalating mental health, substance abuse, and specifically, of course, folks struggling with suicidal ideation,” Thompson said. “They are trained in how to deescalate those scenarios in the moment. They’re also trained in providing connection to resources for that individual depending on what needs to occur next once the situation…

I discovered this 2,627-resident river town guards 300-year-old secrets Lambertville tourists miss

Standing on the stone bridge connecting New Hope to Lambertville, I watched the Delaware River flow beneath me and realized something profound. While thousands of tourists cross this bridge daily, rushing between Pennsylvania’s artsy shops and New Jersey’s antique stores, they’re missing the real treasure. This 2,627-resident borough guards secrets that predate the American Revolution by decades, hidden in plain sight along streets most visitors never explore.

Most travelers know New Hope as a quaint weekend getaway, but few understand they’re walking through one of America’s most authentically preserved colonial river towns. The median age here is 58 years, and these long-time residents have quietly protected stories that would make Williamsburg envious. What I discovered during my extended stay changed everything I thought I knew about Pennsylvania’s Delaware River Valley.

Unlike the crowded tourist corridors of Philadelphia’s Old City or the manufactured charm of Brandywine Valley attractions, New Hope’s authenticity runs deeper than its 1837 incorporation date suggests. The indigenous Lenni-Lenape called this confluence of the Delaware River and Aquetong Creek home for 10,000 years before European eyes ever saw these rolling hills.

The Revolutionary Secret Hidden in Plain Sight

Washington’s Forgotten March Route

Every American knows about Washington crossing the Delaware, but here’s what the history books skip: in 1776, Washington marched his troops directly through what’s now New Hope’s Main Street. The Logan Inn, still operating after three centuries, wasn’t just a colonial tavern – it was a strategic waystation where revolutionary plans were whispered over ale. Local historians at the New Hope Historical Society showed me documents proving this building witnessed conversations that shaped American independence, yet tour groups rush past without a second glance.

The Lenni-Lenape Legacy Tourists Never Learn

While visitors snap photos of Victorian architecture, they’re standing on ground that holds deeper stories. The…

New Video Exhibit Brings Lenape History to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park

Prospect Park Alliance and the Éenda-Lŭnaapeewáhkiing Collective highlights centuries of indigenous history through a video exhibit on view from July 12 through November 30, 2025, at Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park.

The Prospect Park Alliance and the Éenda-Lŭnaapeewáhkiing Collective are bringing Eelunaapéewi Ehaptoonáakanal: Voices of Lunáapeew/Lenape to Lefferts Historic House from July 12 through November 30, 2025.

The exhibit features video interviews with Lunáapeew/Lenape knowledge-keepers and culture bearers sharing their relationships to their ancestral homelands and their ongoing resilience despite centuries of displacement.

“We are a nation who has been scattered to the winds because of the greed of not just the Dutch, but also the English after that and so forth, who chased us and massacred us for our land,” said George Stonefish, co-founder, Éenda-Lŭnaapeewáhkiing Collective and ReImagine Lefferts advisor.

The Éenda-Lŭnaapeewáhkiing Collective is a partnership among Delaware, Munsee-Delaware, Lenni-Lenape, Lenape and Lunáapeew communities working to unite displaced members of the nation across Turtle Island through shared projects and storytelling.

“We are honored to join our partners at the Éenda-Lŭnaapeewáhkiing Collective to share with our community the history, resistance and resilience of the Indigenous people of Lenapehoking, as well as the enduring art, culture and stories of the Lenapehoking today,” said Morgan Monaco, Prospect Park Alliance President.

Visitors are invited to the opening celebration on Saturday, July 12, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. The exhibit is free but click here to RSVP.

This installation is part of the ReImagine Lefferts initiative, which is transforming the historic house into a space that explores the lives and resistance of the Indigenous people of Lenapehoking, the unceded ancestral lands that include Brooklyn and the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family.

As part of this broader effort, the Alliance will also host the Second United Lenape/Lunáapeew Nations Pow Wow on September…

Monday Update: Lenape mural underway in Scranton

A Lenape artist began work Wednesday on a Scranton mural that will draw on Native American and European cultures.

“I wanted to find some similarities between us,” said artist Ben Scott Miller, who is an enrolled citizen of the federally recognized Delaware Tribe of the Lenape and lives in Oklahoma.

That common ground will be depicted in scenes of dance, plus floral elements, on the side of the Brixx Building, 130 N. Washington Ave. The site already stands out because the 4.5-story wall has been freshly restored and painted white.

The 8,000-square-foot mural, “Remembrance and Continuance: The Lenape Story in Scranton,” will take about a month to complete. Lenape representatives will attend a dedication at 5 p.m. on Aug. 1.

Scott Landis, Landis Market chairman, and Jason Trotter, Perkasie Fire Company Chief, expressed immense gratitude for the award

Perkasie Borough recently honored Landis Market and the Perkasie Fire Company with its second annual Jim Purcell Memorial Award for service to the community.

The award, named after former Perkasie council member Jim Purcell, was presented at Perkasie’s Community Day on June 28 in Lenape Park. Perkasie mayor Jeff Hollenbach, who chose the award recipients, proclaimed the annual award in April 2024 to honor individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the betterment of the community.

“There are the four words I think of for [Purcell] – service, commitment, dedication and integrity, and these two parties represent those words very well,” said Hollenbach.

The award was presented at the June 28 Perkasie Community Day in Lenape Park.
By John Worthington | The Reporter

Founded in 1938 by Frank and Sadie Landis, Landis Market started as a small neighborhood grocery store on Main Street in Telford. Now a third-generation, family-owned business with multiple locations, including Perkasie, Landis Market employs nearly 500 team members and supports over 200 local charitable and nonprofit organizations, with weekly donations to local food banks, said a Perkasie Borough press release.

“They have been a fixture in Perkasie for many years, feeding our community,” said Hollenbach. “For years, they’ve provided fresh food, friendly service and unwavering support during both ordinary days and times of need. I have deep appreciation for their commitment to our residents and for making our town a…
