[]BURRILLVILLE – The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has announced the date for the anticipated closure of a bridge on Route 102, noting both lanes of the Mohegan Bridge will be closed starting on Friday, Jan. 14.

[]The bridge, which carries Route 102 over the Branch River in Burrillville has been under construction since spring 2021, with northbound traffic detoured.

[]“Closing the bridge entirely will allow construction to move ahead efficiently and safely with work on the northbound half of the bridge finishing in late spring/early summer 2022 before work begins on the southbound half of the bridge,” noted a release from RIDOT on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

[]During the closure, RIDOT will sign a recommended detour for both northbound and southbound traffic using Douglas Turnpike, Victory Highway and East Avenue. A detour map is available at www.ridot.net/detourmaps. Temporary traffic signals will be put in place along the detour route to assist motorists.

[]In addition to replacing the bridge, the $10.6 million contract includes resurfacing Route 102 at the bridge and its approaches, including its intersection with Route 7. New guardrail, signing, striping and drainage improvements will also be installed. The bridge carries about 15,200 vehicles per day and the project is expected to be done in spring 2023.

[]RIDOT noted that all construction projects are subject to changes in schedule and scope depending on needs, circumstances, findings, and weather.

“Portal” is a new sneaker and streetwear store that recently opened in the Shops at Mohegan Sun.

MONTVILLE, Conn. — Nikes, Air Jordans, Yeezys, and plenty of Pumas; “Portal” is a new sneaker and streetwear store that opened in the Shops at Mohegan Sun just one month ago.

For owner and founder Chris Blomstedt, Portal is a gateway to a passion shared by many – the love of collectible shoes.

“We are all about celebrating all the achievements within the sneaker and streetwear space over the past couple of decades,” said Blomstedt, from Ledyard.

While some shoe prices hover from $100 to the $150 range, the hard-to-find low and high tops fetch top dollar, with no shortage of tags in the $300 and $400 dollar range. Blomstedt has a coveted pair of Yeezys on display (locked behind glass) that he estimated a price tag of $10,000. But, for now, they’re only on display.

Blomstedt said the Christmas season was a busy one for the team at Portal, and now that January has arrived and the omicron variant of COVID-19 has created more issues for businesses, he hopes that people are willing to come out and support small shops like his.

“We are just trying to blend the legacy products as well as the more trendy items,” Blomstedt said, and later added, “We want to share our passion with as many people as possible.”

RHODE ISLAND, January 4 – Beginning Friday, January 14, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is scheduled to close the Mohegan Bridge, which carries Route 102 (Bronco Highway) over the Branch River in Burrillville.

RIDOT began replacing this structurally deficient bridge in spring 2021, and detoured Route 102 northbound traffic. Closing the bridge entirely will allow construction to move ahead efficiently and safely with work on the northbound half of the bridge finishing in late spring/early summer 2022 before work begins on the southbound half of the bridge.

During the closure, RIDOT will sign a recommended detour for both northbound and southbound traffic using Douglas Turnpike (Route 7), Victory Highway and East Avenue. A detour map is available at www.ridot.net/DetourMaps. Temporary traffic signals will be put in place along the detour route to assist motorists.

In addition to replacing the bridge, the $10.6 million contract includes resurfacing Route 102 at the bridge and its approaches, including its intersection with Route 7. New guardrail, signing, striping and drainage improvements will also be installed as part of the project. The bridge carries about 15,200 vehicles per day. The project will be done in spring 2023.

All construction projects are subject to changes in schedule and scope depending on needs, circumstances, findings, and weather.

The replacement of the Mohegan Bridge is made possible by RhodeWorks, RIDOT’s ongoing commitment to repair structurally deficient bridges and bring Rhode Island’s transportation infrastructure into a state of good repair, promote economic development, and create jobs.
