On Saturday, November 9th, Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys brought his 2024 “Who I Am” tour to The Cabaret Theatre at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.
“The important thing in life is not victory but combat; it is not to have vanquished but to have fought well,” said French educator and historian Pierre de Coubertin. Nick Carter is such an individual.
Morning ‘Listening Party’
In the morning, Carter hosted an album “Listening Party,” where he was able to play a few songs acoustic (the Backstreet Boys hits “Larger Than Life” and “As Long As You Love Me,” as well as his solo single “Help Me”), for an intimate group of fans.
Carter shared that he is re-recording “Help Me” at the moment, and he also shared eight new songs that are previously unreleased… and with the help of his fans, they were asked to vote on their favorite ones, to help him select the best ones that will make it on the new album.

He also allowed the fans to ask him questions about each of the new tunes.
Without giving too much away (on his new songs), they were all eclectic and well-crafted that it will be a difficult decision for him, especially since each tune has its own identity.
Soundcheck experience
During the soundcheck and meet and greet experience, which took place later on in the day, Carter sang “80s Movie,” a cover of ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man,” and the infectious “Made For Us,” which had a retro ’80s vibe to it.
Carter also sang “Help Me” while the song’s music video played on the…

SPRAGUE — After helping the Berlin boys golf team win the 2024 DII golf state championship, Berlin sophomore Brennan Meyers qualified to play in the 2024 New England Boys Golf Championship which was held on Monday, October 28, at the Mohegan Sun Golf Course, in Baltic, Connecticut.
Not only did Meyers qualify for the event, but he showed why he is one of the best high school golfers in the state of Connecticut and New England for that matter.
Meyers had an overall score of 70 and tied for second place out of 72 golfers. Meyers was also just one of two underclassmen (freshman Luke Kowalchik, Fairfield Prep) to place in the top-15 at the event.
Meyers said that it was a great experience to compete against the best golfers in New England, which included some familiar faces that he’s competed against before. He said that while he is satisfied with placing second, he would have been more excited to finish in first place.
“It was exciting,” said Meyers. “I knew a few of the kids there, I also had confidence in myself. After coming in second place it was really exciting. I would have been more excited if I won, but it’s alright. Second is really for New England’s, so I’ll take it.”
Meyers found out right after the team won the DII state title that he qualified for the event, courtesy of his 71 overall score, which was the second best for all DII golfers.
Heading into the New England Championship, Meyers said he continued to practice each day, getting encouragement from his coaches and teammates. He said that he was able to get some pointers on what holes to watch out for on the course from some of his teammates that have played at the course before.

Licensed Betting Operators May Not Offer Election Wagers
HARTFORD — The Department of Consumer Protection Gaming Division is reminding the public that there are only three licensed online wagering platforms in Connecticut, and none of them are permitted to offer wagers on election outcomes.
“We know elections sometimes feel like a sport, but the reality is they are not,” said DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli. “Wagering on an unlicensed platform just to bet on an election leaves consumers personal information and money vulnerable to theft and fraud. Any platform offering wagers on the election is unregulated by the Department of Consumer Protection. No licensed platform may offer wagers on election outcomes in Connecticut.”
The three online platforms authorized to offer sports wagers in Connecticut are:
- DraftKings, through their affiliation with Foxwoods Casino
- FanDuel, through their affiliation with Mohegan Sun
- Fanatics, through their affiliation with the Connecticut Lottery Corporation
Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casino also offer retail sports wagering at their casinos.
In addition, there are 10 retail locations licensed to offer wagers through their affiliation with the Connecticut Lottery Corporation. Retail establishments licensed to take wagers are:
- Bobby V’s Stamford
- Bobby V’s Windsor Locks
- Murphy’s Pub & Sports Bar – Manchester
- Sports Haven
- Total Mortgage Arena Bridgeport
- Winners Hartford
- Winners New Britain
- Winners Milford
- Winners Waterbury
- XL Center Hartford

UConn freshman forward Liam McNeeley was one of 20 players named to the watch list for the Basketball Hall of Fame’s Julius Erving Award, which is given annually to the best small forward in college basketball.
The Top 10 recruit, one of coach Dan Hurley’s highest-ever, was one of the best shooters in his high school class and a McDonald’s All-American. He fills a significant need for the Huskies following the departure of four starters to the NBA last season, and will be counted on to have an impact similar to that of Stephon Castle, the first “burger boy” Hurley got to Storrs.
McNeeley was named the Big East Preseason Freshman of the Year at Big East Media Day earlier this month.
But his availability for the start of the season is still in question after he suffered a lower calf strain in practice before First Night. Hurley said at Big East Media Day – two weeks before the season-opener vs. Sacred Heart – that the injury looked like it would require a two-to-three week recovery period before McNeeley can return to action.
He was healthy to play in UConn’s charity exhibition game against Rhode Island on Oct. 14 and finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes. Hurley later said McNeeley was hyperventilating as they stood next to each other during the national anthem.
UConn’s Liam McNeeley scores his first basket with UConn as URI’s Javonte Brown defends during the first half of an exhibition NCAA college basketball game, at…

We now live in a world where comparing the WNBA to the NBA directly from a viewership standpoint is no longer a laughable proposition, with the most recent returns emphasizing how the gap between the two leagues is indeed closing.
ESPN’s first NBA telecasts of the season pulled in an average of 1.6 million viewers, that information per Awful Announcing. This is particularly interesting considering Caitlin Clark’s debut with the Indiana Fever, which aired on ESPN 2 and was the first major WNBA telecast on the network for the 2024 season, drew 2.1 million viewers.
Caitlin Clark’s debut had 2.1 million viewers on ESPN 2. We now live in a world where the WNBA can compete with the NBA in viewership, which is crazy. https://t.co/3HNmkCcExY

Of course the curiosity factor around Clark’s debut and the fact that those NBA games were not actually the first of the regular season can be chalked up as the reason for the disparity in ratings going in the WNBA’s favor there.
But the trends show the friendly competition (they are the same entity after all with seasons that don’t really overlap) could continue to grow closer over time. To be clear, overall, the difference in viewership still remains heavily in favor of the NBA.
NBA regular season games averaged 1.6 million viewers across TNT, ABC and ESPN during the 2023-2024 season, which does not include games that aired on NBA TV, where the number was at 330,000. Meanwhile, the WNBA regular season averaged 1.19 million viewers across ESPN platforms and 1.1 million on CBS. The overall number fell to 657,000 when factoring in broadcasts on ION and NBA TV. But as you can see, when accounting for broadcast platform, it was not a total blowout.
