Recording of potential Mohican Bigfoot howling

Suzanne Ferencak recorded this audio clip that she believes contains the sound of a Bigfoot howl July 3, 2022.

Zach Tuggle, Mansfield News Journal

After several years with no trace of the creature, Suzanne Ferencak thinks Bigfoot has finally returned to Mohican, and she believes she has audio proof.

“This is the first time I ever recorded howls,” Ferencak said.

The two-minute-long recording — which she shared with the News Journal — was described by an analyst as having “high potential” for containing the sound of one Bigfoot attempting to locate another.

“The first howler has a brassy tone to its voice that can be indicative of (Sasquatch),” the analyst wrote. “There are a couple features in the execution, such as shifting to an ‘AA’ phoneme at the end of the call that are indicative as well, most noticeable in the last two howls.”

She plans to discuss her encounters during the “Bigfoot Basecamp Weekend” Sept. 9-11 at Pleasant Hill Lake Park.

‘I always have a recorder going’

Ferencak said she first caught a glimpse of the bipedal brute when it jumped over a back road southeast of Loudonville in May of 2013.

Her description of the 7½-foot tall, hairy beast matches those commonly used to depict creatures known as Sasquatch, Yeti and Grassman….

‘Special connection’: Razz, the dog that couldn’t walk two months ago, has new home

Once immobile and abandoned, dog now has a home and is able to walk

Razz the dog is adjusting to his new home.

A 1-year-old pit/Staffordshire bull terrier mix, Razz captured the hearts of many animal lovers after his owner abandoned him by dumping him off in the outdoor kennels at the Richland County Dog Shelter on May 3.

Dog Warden Missy Houghton remembers him well.

“When he first came in, he was completely immobile,” she said. “He couldn’t move at all.”

Razz’s story: Abandoned, immobile dog at Richland County shelter now able to walk

In addition, Razz is deaf.

More than two months later, Razz can walk. He sort of lopes along, with the tops of his paws scraping the ground, causing them to bleed.

‘I fell in love with him when I first met him’

Bethany Higgins, his new owner, is a veterinary assistant at Mohican Veterinary Wellness Center, where Razz goes for weekly acupuncture and laser treatments.

“I fell in love with him when I first met him, but so did everyone,” Higgins said. “We had a pretty special connection from the beginning, and everyone could see it. It got to a point where it was kind of hard to deny it.”

Things to do: Sarah’s Pooch Parlor celebrates grand opening in Shelby

Higgins made up her mind May 25, when Mohican held an open house. Her 6-year-old daughter Amelia got the chance to meet Razz that day.

They, too, formed a fast friendship. Razz tends to follow Amelia around on her bike, a turquoise and purple Schwinn with training wheels.

Asked what she likes to do with Razz, Amelia replied, “Everything.”

Razz’s health has continued to improve after leaving Richland County Dog Shelter

Razz has beefed up to 73 pounds, though his tendency to eat dead grass probably hasn’t contributed much.

“He likes to eat…

The Stockbridge-Munsee Community Band of Mohican Indians seek to reclaim ancient burial grounds

STOCKBRIDGE — Descendants of the town’s first settlers want to reclaim land on a quiet, forested nook overlooking the Stockbridge Golf Course. Dating back nearly 300 years, this is a burial site for ancestors who lived in the community then known as “Indian Town.”

Quote

“These folks want their ancestors’ bones back, who can argue with that?”

Patrick White, chair, Stockbridge Select Board

Today, the Stockbridge-Munsee Community Band of Mohican Indians is seeking reclamation of the “Indian Burial Ground” site off Main Street. According to a tribal history, “it is highly likely that tribal members were buried here long before the colonial period, and that this burial ground was in fact a continuation.”

In a letter to the Select Board, Bonney Hartley, the historic preservation manager for the tribe, cites the “official and sacred responsibility for our Nation to preserve our ancestral burial grounds and other cultural sites such as these in our Mohican homelands.”

Stockbridge-Munsees focus on correcting historical record through collaborations with Berkshire institutions

The land was turned over to the town in 1809 as European colonialists forced remaining members of the tribe to flee westward, a migration that began in 1783. “It would be very meaningful and significant to, more than 200 years later, be able to restore this burial ground to our people,” Hartley wrote.

The Stockbridge-Munsee Community Band of Mohican Indians is asking town leaders to approve a return of the site off Main Street to tribal control. The parcel , including a monument to buried tribe members, was turned over to the town in 1809.

West Holmes FFA has officer retreat

Staff Report  |  The Daily Record

On July 6, the 2022-23 West Holmes officer team met at the high school to kick off the annual officer retreat.

The officers first changed into official dress and headed to Mohican State Park for photos.

Once they returned from photos the team wrote one funny, one FFA and one serious question on notecards to answer later at a campfire.

The team was responsible for preparing meals during the trip on a $150 budget for the next four meals, they prepared a menu and list of ingredients needed to cook the meals for the next two days.

They then went to Rodhe’s IGA and got the supplies they needed and were cents under the budget provided.

Playing team-building game, doing personality test

Once they had returned, officers Derek Miller and Becca Schuch prepared soft tacos for lunch. After lunch the officer team played a team-building game where they were blindfolded and given toy animals and only knew the color of the animals, the team had to guess what animal was missing and failed to identify the correct animal.

The team also took an Enneagram test to identify the different types of people on the officer team.

After that, the chapter went to their cabin southwest of Killbuck and discussed people who were leaders in their lives. Then officers Andi Schuch and Alysa Pringle prepared pork tenderloins for dinner.

After dinner the team sat around the campfire and talked about good things and bad things of the past year, goals they have for themselves and the chapter, things they need to change and things they need to add or take away.

The next morning officers Garrett Fowler and Sarah Irwin prepared bacon and eggs for breakfast.

Sailors compete in Interlake National Regatta on Charles Mills Lake

LUCAS — For the first time in 57 years, Charles Mills Lake hosted the Interlake Sailing Class Association National Regatta.

Competitors from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Washington D.C. competed in the regatta. The winner of the National regatta will represent the Interlake Class Representative in the “Championship of Champions.”

“It was a great event. We had plenty of breeze and plenty of wind on both days,” said William Sanderson, the commodore of the Mohican Sailing Club and the Local National Regatta Chairman. “Actually three days because Wednesday was the women and juniors. We got eight races completed for the championship racing.

“The race committee had to set a course that was hard to set because of the direction of the wind was more squarely coming from the West, which is the skinny part. It’s much better on this lake if it’s going north or south but it never did because we had a thunderstorm coming this way.”

The racing champion for the Interlake National Regatta was the group of Matt Fisher, Jamie Jones and Jim Ward from the Hoover Sailing Club in Westerville, Ohio.

Second place was the group led by Brian Parker from the Sandusky Sailing Club in Sandusky. Third place went to the group of Nate Ireland, Bridget Ireland and Vincent Ireland also from the Hoover Sailing Club.

“The racing was high competition,” said Sanderson. “There were several past national champions in the regatta this year but the guy who won it was also an international national champion. The team that finished second and third did an outstanding job. They were really pushing hard and the top three battled it out. It was pretty amazing.”

The last day of the regatta was scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday but the race was cut short early due to thunderstorm warnings.

“Most of the competitors were ok with taking the side of safety and cancelling a portion…
