ASHLAND – Project Manager for the Trust for Public Land Kevin Joyce presented the Ashland County Commissioners on Thursday, Jan. 27 with information regarding Mohican State Forest.

More: Courthouse HVAC and jail intercom and cameras projects expected to finish by late February

“Our purpose is to protect parks and land for people,” began Joyce. “Also here today is Chad Sanders who is the forest manager at Mohican State Memorial Forest.”

A family that owns 116 acres approached Sanders and his staff about acquiring land near Mohican State Forest, he said.

“We entered into a contract with the family to buy the land,” said Joyce. “And then we will transfer title using funds from the sources talked about. We work with state, local and federal funding sources for our projects. In this case we have a state forest and we need to find funding.”

Joyce said the two best sources of funding for this project would be an appropriation from the General Assembly under the Capital Budget and a grant from the Muskingum Watershed Conservatory District. An appraiser will figure out the fair market value.

“I am here,” said Joyce, “to ask commissioners to state that you are in favor of this project, so we can relay that to our funding sources when we ask them for money.”

Clerk Nikki Hiller had a letter of support prepared for the meeting…

Gucci gets bashed by online critics after advertising a £2,200 equestrian-style sun visor

Gucci has been mocked for horsing around by selling a sun visor with equine hair for £2,200.

The Italian fashion house’s black leather visor has been likened to bondage gear, while one baffled shopper said it resembled a Spartan helmet.

The listing on the Gucci website reads: ‘Equestrian references, dating back to the 1950s, are continually revisited in new and unexpected ways.

‘This visor is characterised by a black leather harness, recalling those used in horse riding.’

‘A striking rendition of a horse’s mane completes the style.’

Gucci has been attacked by online critics after selling a sun visor with a horse hair mohican for £2,200

The headpiece features a visor for keeping the sun out of the wearer’s eyes and an open harnes system that goes around the head

One user thought the hat was more suited to appearing in San Francisco’s annual BDSM carnival

The ‘Visor with harness’ only keeps bright light out of the wearers’ eyes and doesn’t offer the head any protection from the sun’s rays because it’s open at the top, apart from the horse mane covering.

It does, however, boast an adjustable chin strap and buckle.

Gucci first unveiled the accessory in April 2021 with models parading it on the catwalk, before its recent attention online.

Commenter James Worrad was baffled by the price and said on Twitter: ‘£2,200 this’ll set you back, guys. A must-have, clearly.’

Another commenter was surprised at the steep price given the eccentricity of the unusual garment

Lee Thomason compared it to the clobber worn at the famous San Francisco BDSM event.

He added: ‘Looks like something you’d see at the Folsom Street…

Irv Oslin: Winter canoe tripping — finding aid and comfort along the river

An ominous sign welcomes us to our campsite on the Mohican River. It's been said that, in my youth, I bore a striking resemblance to the banjo player in the movie

An ominous sign welcomes us to our campsite on the Mohican River. It’s been said that, in my youth, I bore a striking resemblance to the banjo player in the movie “Deliverance.”

Liverwurst sandwiches, a frozen wetsuit and gas station coffee — it was everything a winter canoe trip should be. And more.

And why not? It started off with a good omen — Nathan Shipley granted us permission to park in Mother Teresa’s spot.

Previous column: Winter camping — Chilling thoughts on keeping warm inside your tent

I had contacted him before the three-day trip to get permission to put in at his place — Shipley’s Canoe Livery & Tavern in Loudonville. Curtis Casto, my co-conspirator for this trip, and I decided we’d leave my truck there. We planned to take out three days later at the confluence of the Mohican and Kokosing rivers.

When I contacted Nathan to get permission, I asked where I should leave my truck.

“You can park anywhere on the other side of the dumpster,” he responded in a text message. “There is a sign that says ‘Mother Teresa Parking’ I put up for Teresa so that in the summer when we’re open, she always has a spot. If you park there that would be fine too.”

We felt honored and blessed. With liverwurst sandwiches and gas station coffee awaiting us downstream, how could we go wrong?

Promises of sandwiches and coffee

As canoe trips go, this one was tightly scripted. We arranged to camp at friends’ properties along the way. That’s where the promises of…
